2 hours ago, Cabo Chris said:
As a serious deep silver coin hunter would the NOX replace my top coin detector? Unless I read wrong,ML said the new MF technology was not as Hot on silver as FBS.
Read the posts where Steve is finding silver in parks on a regular basis. Also read the old classifieds where Steve sold his ctx. Hmmmm. Chris, you may need to think about this one.

The one piece of information I am eagerly awaiting Steve to show us when he is able, Is the picture of all the silver coins he has found in city parks using the EQ800.
-
Yes a big thanks to Steve for setting up this awesome forum, Best I have ever come across. And for his patience with all of us curious with the EQ. And thanks for sharing the info he can on the EQ, and helping us form a solid view of what this detector can do.
BIG THUMBS UP STEVE !
Detecting since 1975, starting with the AH Mini Pro. ( 2" deep on a dime!)

My goodness that gold is tiny. What is a nice thought is the prospecting mode has to be almost done to nail stuff like that!
Man, I'm drooling now over the EQ800 , and I'm not even a nugget hunter! Bring it on Minelab!
-
It appears the other manufacturers are falling farther behind Minelab. With the technical staff that Minelab has, Its harder for the smaller companies to keep up.
-
Minelab said there will be a lot of obsolete detectors out there soon. I guess some folks are heeding the warning and trying to get some decent prices while they can.

Steve on the subject of handle angle. I'm surprised the manufactures have not make an adjustable handle. Loosen up a wingnut, change the angle, and retighten. Build in some " teeth" on the pieces to provide somewhat of a lock between the parts, so the wingnut would not have to be cranked so tight.

This is in response to VPF7 s post about weight, balance.
I think this unit is so lightweight that it does not matter. I picked up a Quest and the design is very similar to the EQ units. I can swing the Quest all day with no fatigue or soreness.

Dime sized coin, about 11" , Quarter/ Half sized coin about 16". I'm guessing, lower mineralized dirt?

Maybe we are all going to have to order the EQ from European dealers! With all my luck the menu would be in Russian! AAArgh!!!
-
The higher frequencies that the 800 has might be better for gold?
-
A dealer I talked to a few days ago, felt about the same timeline. Sounds like Europe is getting them first, as they are a bigger market.

I'm looking at the underwater headphones and am wondering how long the cord will last before the wires break down inside the cord at the connecter. That cord will be doing a 180 degree bend. I hope they come out with a 90 degree jack with a male on one end that goes into the detector housing, and a female end where the headphone connector goes into. That would extend the longevity of the headphone cord, as it will only be doing a 90 degree curve around the housing .

Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that VLF depth hit its peak depth years ago. I have to disagree with that. Look at the depths the VLFs coming out of Eastern Europe are attaining. This past summer I did some depth testing with my Rutus ALter 71 on a freshwater beach. I buried a silver half dollar 20 " deep in the dry sand , but the detector in deep mode ( not the super deep mode), close to max sensitivity, disc at 40, one tone, 11" dd coil, and I get a repeatable signal. How many VLF detectors from years ago could hit that? No visual ID , but the audio gave a nice repeatable signal. The Detech Chaser looks like its even deeper than the 71. However some of these machines are very fussy to set up, and have their quirks also. But that comes with the territory. The Russian AKA machines are also very deep, but challenging to balance to higher mineralized ground. But if you spend a lot of time using these depth monsters , you will dig deep!.
-
That sounds awesome. Are you finding a lot of metallic trash in the holes with the old coins you dig?
-
Steve , have most of your finds been found using the multi freq setting? Have you used a single freq much when coin hunting?
-
Steve, Your job is to report honestly, then let the chips fall where they may. And I believe you are honest.
-
Sweet on the modulated audio! That makes sense that the depth meter isn't watched closely .
-
Is the audio modulated on the EQ? ( deep coins small sound, shallow coins large sound?)
-
Steve, Christmas is coming, you have to stop playing scrooge with that 800. You need to share it with us , you know , send it to me for 30 days , then I will pass it on to another loyal member here. You will get it back eventually!! Tis the season for love and sharing you know. LOL.
-
They probably have to set up the ad 30-60 days before the printing, so it would have been tricky to predict a date that long ago.
-
Steve, have you tested these also? If so, any info you can share?
-
I could well be wrong on this comment, but I have been following the Equinox info since it has come out, and I get the feeling Minelab designed this unit to go head to head with the Deus, and whoop it! Just my gut feeling, from what I am reading , and reading between the lines. I have considered the Deus also since it came out, and a few things that were a negative for me. Price, having to charge the coils and control box, and headphones. A lot of trash objects are ID'ed in the coin zone, and not the greatest depth. I have read lately that the depth has greatly improved . I never did buy a deus.

Are you allowed to say what depths you are digging copper and silver coins? I realize all soils are different.
The more I hear about this detector, The more I like it!
