  1. I realize no one here knows the answer to this question,  yet its something to think about.  I follow the financial markets and today, the dollar just broke support at 90 on the charts, and is headed down.  Experts are saying the dollar could lose another 10-20% in value, this year, against other currencies.  That will cause the price of most imported goods to rise, including metal detectors from other countries.  It will also push up the price of silver and gold.  Now is a good time to buy/ find the precious metals, not a good time to sell.  Anyway, I just thought I would toss this thought out there , something to think about, and plan for.  HH.

  2. Trying to pick out rings amongst the alum tabs.  Here is where a 100 point target scale would be helpful.  I  use a rutus alter 71 for picking rings out of the trash.  It has 120 segments, 40 are iron.  Most alum tabs bounce a few numbers, where as rings  lock into one number  ( Most of the time , and down to about 5 inches. )  I have called some of the rings , before I dug them.  Now some square tabs do read out as one number, and I get fooled.

With the EQX having half the segments, my guess is the tabs will not bounce as much, making it harder to tell if its a ring or junk.  Steve, do the alum tabs tend to bounce much, or do most lock into one number?  Ring hunting may be harder with the EQX,  but gosh, the machine can't  be the best in all areas!

  3. I would prefer the EQX would collapse  smaller. Have the middle rod slide into the handle shaft, that could shrink down the length another foot or so.   The center rod  appears to just attach to the rear shaft, just in front of the handle.  Also make the handle/ battery pod adjustable, so you can set  the handle to any angle. That would make it comfortable for every user.

I have a Quest 20 and that detector can be contracted down to 29"  without disassembling the shafts.  That really makes it convenient  for storage or baggage.

  4. The Equinox.... Will provide the jolt this hobby needs!   To reopen " cleaned out sites".    It is getting to the point now that when hunting on public lands , I don't expect to find old coins.  We need new tools( technology)  to unlock more good finds again.  Sounds like the EQX  is the tool to make it happen.   Thanks Minelab!

  5. Steve , have you given a thought to making and selling a dvd?   In one of the other threads someone brought up about teaching classes.

But for those of us far from Reno, it would be difficult to attend.   A dvd could be worldwide.   I'm sure making one would be a lot of work.

But, maybe it could put you on easy street?

  6. The UK fella that found that 1 cm. gold coin at a 10"+ depth with ID, with the EQX 800.  Could the CTX or deus  have found that gold coin under those conditions ?  Could any detector on the market today, excluding the pulse units , have  located and ID'ED that coin  the way the EQX did?   ( I never owned a ctx or deus)  . If not,  the words obsoleting the single freekers, and many other detectors  comes back to mind.

In about 30 days, I could be holding one of these 800's in my hands.  :biggrin::tongue:.
