 Iron. It gives a much stronger signal than gold of equal mass. I once had to chop through 2 brontosaurus and a pterodactyl fossil to remove a square nail head at 37 feet down. I was quite disappointed.

Jees you guys. when I was a kid I used to play in old mines all the time. and for the dozens of times I went into rotten adits I only was nearly killed a few times. I would love to go back and find some of these old mines ( I'm still a kid) but they have all long since caved in.

 Dang it MN and FM.  Now you two have got me thinking I should act my age and get a hearing tested. I'm getting so deaf I have to wear Glasses.

 All of my gold can be traced to VERY unethical practices, It was mined under harsh working conditions with no regard to basic human rights, low pay and sometimes no pay at all, with total disregard to labor laws and health and safety practices, further more numerous international child labor laws were violated daily as I never grew up and think and act like I am still about 13 years old.

 Your story demonstrates that you are prone to foolhardy, risky, dangerous, outrageous, single mindedness, common sense be damned behavior when you are searching for gold. which means you have outstanding qualifications for a few trips to the Northern Sierras this coming summer.

 i purchased it from Rob, Apparently it was the last available one North of the equator. It is rumored that Rob snuck into Australia, bonked an unsuspecting detectorist in the head and stole his coil for me. Rob goes to great lengths to help his customers so the rumor is probably true.

 Dang you GAu! I Pretty much got away from trout fishing when I stated detecting but  now you reminded me of how much I miss camp fire trout, boy, did you open a can of worms.

 Regarding the 7000; try the difficult setting, high yield, and sensitivity as high as it will go while maintaining a smooth threshold. Try auto tune a couple of times one right after another. Toss the ferrite ring with your eyes closed and see if you can find it next spring. Going slow is the fastest way to find gold.

 The 4000 with a Joey coil is a highly classified secret weapon so don't tell to many about your successes with it.

 Worms should always be purchased in a box and not a can.  Persons whose opinion is otherwise probably lack my experience and expertise.

Rye patch is much too mundane for a man of your talents. I think you should catch a nearby Sub Uru and head West where things are a bit more challenging.

 My very first job was assembling new Polaris snowmobiles, so I have a bit of brand loyalty to Polaris products. But everybody I know that bought a ranger or a razor has had recalls and problems. I bought a 1000 Honda SxS. So far (3+ years) I haven't  had a hiccup or a f@rt with it.

 Sorry but ---- ----- ----- and ------ should know by now that giant rattlesnakes, and giant steaks are so common on our trips that I don't even mention them  any more as I don't want to bore the forum members.

 I built a bench top kiln for Steve. he almost got angry when I wouldn't charge him for it. The next time he came up detecting, this Buck knife with Leopard jasper handles mysteriously showed up on my desk when he left. 

  I recently spent a couple of days with ---- ----- ----- and ------ at the famous ----- ---- mine in ------- county, California. We all found some nice gold, but I found a bit more because I was willing to dig a little bit deeper. The gold was mostly in a strata of ----- ---- rock and was very course and there were few small bits, even using a 6000 to check behind my 7000.

  If any of you should go there be advised to say to the left when you get to the --- ----- ----- or you will definitely get stuck for hours, and if you camp out be sure to ---- - ----- ----- because there are numerous -------- and ---- --------- teeth and will tear you apart with there claws. Oh, by the way don't try to get to the mine by going -- --- ----- ----- as the map is incorrect and you will ---- ---- ------- and there is no place to turn around

curiosity is a vital component of prospecting. But so is research. I have never heard of detectable gold from that area, but it seems like Homestake Mining had an operation in that general area trying to recover disseminated gold.

 Grey Ghost. I'm so deaf I can't hear myself think (which is something I do on rare occasions) and the Grey Ghost are the best I have found. They have also proven very durable as I have struck them with my pick, and beat them against boulders and they have some how survived-- and so has my head.

 Well now! Just to keep this thread on the subject at hand (detector prospecting) I must say Vegemite and hot dogs will be my next detecting trip lunch. Won't Sourdough Scott be disappointed when he snitches a bit of that.
