  1. Yeah , I am probably too fussy about balance and added a Makro stand and a small counterweight

Its really being picky though and isnt really an issue until a bigger coil comes along from Minelab or Coiltek etc

I took out the end plug found a piece of pvc electrical conduit which fits very snug inside.

Measured exactly from arm rest bolt to end cap and cut the counduit at that length (you do not want it moving about)

Found a long thin lead fishing sinker,  shaved a bit off it and hammered it into the conduit so it fits tight.

Pop it inside and put the end cap back on.

    So I’m frustrated.

Im using the Minelab Equinox 800, had it for 3 weeks. Pulled a silver Rosie this morning in a 4 hour hunt.

My issue is when I find a target. I have a “clue” based on shovel symbols in depth, but trying to pin point, wiggle back method I’m always off. Sometimes by 4-6 inches laterally.  So I sweep, locate, pin point and dig plug... not in center, and most of the time way off.. inches off.

This is happens multiple times each hunt. This is time consuming and I can’t find a remedy. I’ve used 12 different machines in 1.5 years, and never had this problem.

Anyone have target locator I’d or pin pointing issues?

yes, I posted my wiggle back pinpointing issue a couple of weeks ago.

I found mine to be about 1 to 1.5 inches off in Multi-frequency using the wiggle back method ( I rarely use the pinpoint button)

If I switch to a single frequency on the same target the wiggle back pinpointing  accuracy is spot on.

I am wondering if its the mineralised soil I have been hunting or if its just a multi-freq. thing I need to live with and adjust to.

  3. Good review Steve

For users info : I had some interference between the Fisher F-Pulse and Equinox 800 last time I went out

I had the F-Pulse on full power and it didnt like the Equinox being on...the F-Pulse would not stop going off and was very touchy

To fix this all I did was a another Equinox Noise Cancel when the F-Pulse was turned on.

    No problems after that

The Fisher F-Pulse also could of been adjusted as it can run on 16 different frequencies. I am sure this would work also.

    Happy hunting:biggrin:

  4. Hi from Downunder

I cannot take any credit or claim these are my settings but am only passing them on for other enthusiasts to use.

Neil Jones (UK) deserves the credit and he posted them on Facebook so, to me,  these are now common knowledge - If I am wrong to be putting this here,  please delete this Steve.

    Field 2

    ALL METAL

    Target Tone...  2    ,    Advanced = Tone Pitch   t 1...7 , t 2.....23

Threshold ...as required   ,     Adv. = Threshold Pitch ...1

    Volume Adjust...as required    ,   Adv = Volume Tone  t 1 ...1 (or 0  if you dont want to hear iron)    t 2 ...25

    Recovery... 8    ,     Adv =  Iron Bias...4

Note : In the above I reversed Neil's original Tone Pitch settings as I prefer Iron to sound off as a quiet low tone and non ferrous as a loud high tone.

If you prefer things the other way around just reverse Tone Pitch numbers to t 1...23 , t 2...7

I use 2 tone ferrous a lot on some sites with my Etrac and am glad to see something similar again here with the Nox.

These are the basic settings he gave and a test run works great for me. If anyone can improve these please feel free to add you improvements

    Good luck

  5. Thanks people.

Yes I have done practice and testing

I still need to practise more using the pinpoint button as I never used it with XTerra, Etrac or CTX.

I cant say I prefer it  though. IMHO it seems like a lot of mucking around versus the wiggle back is so simple and quick.

My testing shows that the wiggle back in Multi is about 1" off - but in a single frequency is spot on.

I guess I am fussy but I do not dig holes in 9/10 parks, I only use a slender probe and long nose pliers - pp accuracy saves a lot of time.

I will keep trying, thanks for the input and encouragement

  6. Hi,

I have only been out 3 times with the 800 but I am struggling a little with pinpointing.

On all my machines with a DD coil on,  I have only ever used the "wiggle back"" method

In Multi Freq. I am finding this is not so accurate anymore - the drop off point is less defined I think.

I have been slowly learning to use the pinpoint button but I dont think it is super accurate either.

Sometimes I switch back to a single freq. to pinpoint and the wiggle back seems to work better for me.

Has anyone else had issues or is it just me ?

    Happy hunting:smile:

  7. Hi from Downunder,

I was wondering if any 800 users out there had used non Minelab brand bluetooth earphones or headphones yet ?

...and if so, what type they used.

I am looking to purchase bluetooth earbuds as headphones get very hot for me (its Summer here)

I am hoping to find out if I need to buy standard Apt-X or if it needs to be Apt-X Low Latency

Low Latency will offer the same no lag as the Minelab WM module or the headphones - Standard Apt-X may have too much lag or delay

Apt-X LL cost $170     versus        standard Apt-X or Apt-X HD $50      (these prices are in Australia)

I know I can use the WM module with my choice of earbuds as this is what I have been doing but I hope to go truly wireless soon.

Thanks in advance and happy hunting:smile:

I'm just trying out my fisher f-pulse which has good features like 2 yr warrantee, waterproof, pulse induction good in mineralization, good depth, fully adjustable sensitivity, abrasion resistant.hoping no interference with the Nox , but there are multiple frequencies to select from

Good hear as just purchased an F-Pulse. I have read good reports on them.

My poor old Garrett Propointer has died after 7 years of use & abuse.

  9. Not good, sorry to hear that Mike.

I agree it sounds like a coil or coil wiring problem.

I wonder if you found someone else nearby with a Equinox and swapped coils for a while will it still show the error...might be one way to determine if its a coil or a controller module problem.

  10. Thanks Mark, Judy and Whitbey

The Nox has breathed  some new enthusiasm into detecting for me.

I spent yesterday afternoon on the back lawn learning and recording Target ID numbers and how to pair & navigate around etc.

At sunrise I was at a popular beach which gets a lot of detectors over it everyday.

Like Judy I didnt set the world on fire $5.75 and a little Pandora thingy was my total.

I soon learned to switch to All Metal if you suspect a bottlecap ...their  ID number is often jumpy in A.M.- but I did dig most targets (except foil) as part of the learning process.

I ran it hot (chatty) for a while and then  I ran it quiet in both Beach 1 & 2 and was surprised at how tiny it will detect.... it picked out 2 tiny objects quite deep. One is a minute button, the other could be part of rivet.

They were so small that my Garrett Pro-pointer was having trouble finding them

I like being able to hose off the sand after a beach hunt but noted that sand gets into the cam locks quite easily, also the stem holes. Took it all apart and washed and dried the shafts etc

  11. Australia had the first batch of Equinox 600 & 800's delivered yesterday.

I was very lucky,  I use a small local retailer and his list was not too long plus he had a couple of people not quite ready for their equinox.

Totally unexpected but I got his call late yesterday. I was at the store just after he opened this morning (Saturday here)

I only put my name down late December but happily scored one of the 10x  800's delivered to him from Minelab.

    Charging up as I type.

Lets hope a good number got rolled out to fellow Aussies as we cannot have the Americans having all the fun..

Great summer weather here so no snow or ice to contend with. (just sunburn and the heat)

    cheers and happy swinging

To all those patiently waiting, I hope time goes quick and delivery to you comes early.

  12. My wife of 34 years approves my detecting even though she doesnt like doing it herself.

I happily hand over half of what I find to her and she buys whatever she likes with her half of the loot.

My half goes towards a new detector or adding to my coin collection.

I recently sold off some gold finds that brought a tidy sum and handed her a big wad of cash notes....she couldnt be happier
