  1. They were clever, I hope you understand the example, Fiat 500 1960 Fiat 500 2007, they seem the same but there is a great technical evolution.
This is what I think of Apex, the eye wants its part, but inside there is technology, to make it become AT no need to change the electronics, but the firmware is enough, here is the strength of the new Garrett, I repeat ... they were clever.

So is forced obsolescence. Hopefully, this is not Garrett's goal, but if the Apex becomes a legendary machine (which it very well may), the battery configuration is a nice little "cash cow annuity" they have established when people have to send in their machine for battery replacement several years down the line.

The battery can be changed, the controlbox can be opened, however the life of the lithium with a normal discharge current, without peaks like for drones, is very long, I think that before it can be replaced, a new model of MD will be released to buy.

  3. Vote 10 for the style of the controlbox, I think that in ML they should hire a good stylist, as good to see Apex as not as ugly as is Vanquish.

The internal battery is a good choice, now it is unthinkable to stay with AA Nimh or alkaline batteries, even just for the physical size, litium is the future.

Perhaps some controls are missing such as reactivity and  range tone modification, and it is a pity that it no longer has the effect of the bell tone, the most beautiful thing in the ace250 series 🙂

Then if Apex on the field is better we will see it in a couple of months.

  4. After using equinox for a year and a half on the beach, I thought it was time to use it also in the mountains, if on the beach the original rod can be fine, in the mountains it is very uncomfortable, I thought of finding a way to reduce it, I had a photographic manfrotto with almost triangular rod, the upper part of the equinox electronics could adapt to the rod but the lower part did not, I looked for something at home that could replace the lower part, an easily foldable aluminum sheet and four knob screws obtained from connectors F for TV and brass screws, in order to easily detach it, the coil attachment and the shaft are of an ace250, the result can be seen in the photos, 570 mm long, easily transportable, it could have been done better but I don't have a 3d printer . Now I have two Nox800s, one for the beach and one for the mountain.

  5. When I had mxt I replaced the central section with a straight section, I prefer the straight rod and I am happy that it is so for equinox, but I would have liked more if it had been collapsible, when I go to the beach I don't take it apart, but when you go in the mountains it is stressful to have to take everything apart.
I would have preferred that the central unit was easily removable, in order to be able to put it more easily inside the backpack.

  6. Is it better to do manual balancing or autotracking in salt water? On dry sand I have not found great differences, but in sea water the doubt remains, it would seem that autotracking tends to eliminate weak signals, according to you which is the best solution?

  7. The waveform taken with the microphone is not the real one, but it is distorted by the dynamics of the microphone, the signal taken with a link has the right shape, and compared to the Minelab chart you can see that it coincides.
In beach mode it is evident that at least two frequencies are missing.

  8. This discussion intrigued me that in multi-frequency Equinox does not transmit all five frequencies,i thought about the way to analyze the transmitted signal without having to open Equinox,  unfortunately I do not have a spectrum analyzer but only an oscilloscope,  Equinox is a vlf so its signal can be heard by a good microphone, i had done a similar test in the past on Deus,  so the instrumentation used is a 20 Mhz band Fluke 123 portable oscilloscope and a Prologue dynamic Shure microphone.

As you can see from the picture I placed the microphone in the middle of the coil, in Park 1 I checked all frequencies individually, as seen in the photos, all five frequencies correspond, in multifrequency things change, the graph is noticeably different from that with a single frequency, Fourier does his job, these views are also identical in other mode, excluding Beach 1 and 2, things change in Beach, the visualization is different, at first interpretation, one has the sensation that in all other modes, in multifrequency, there are all frequencies. In beach 1 and 2 in multifrequency something is missing.Probably there are only the most useful frequencies for sea and beach research.

This analysis gives no certainty that Equinox in multifrequency actually uses all or part of the frequencies, but certainly establishes that the use of the multifrequency is different between the terrestrial and marine modes, what then happens in the processing of the signal only knows Minelab.

All the charge tiems I have reviewed posted by folks, yours is way outside the norm.  Most charge less than 4 hours.   Mine does too, like 3 hours 15 minutes.  Make sure your charger doens’t have 2 rated charging jacks for current.  Some have both a 2.1a and a 1amp port (s).

I checked the usb charger, it has two 2.1A ports, as for photography, I also did the voltage-current test and from 5.17 V @ 2.3 A on both ports.

I will try to completely download the Nox and try again the charging time.

  10. This morning I wanted to put into practice the arguments made yesterday, I set Equinox with ground 0, recovery 6, gain 20, I made the noise cancellation with the coil at half depth, the first signs were quite good, no signal lost in the hole, then I increased the gain to 22 with some slight noise and responsiveness to 7, I found deep signals and I kept the detection of the target in the hole at least up to 10 "- 12" then I had to go to pinpoint mode, nothing all that happened yesterday, I made really deep holes to recover the € 2 coin, for me this confirms what we thought yesterday, that in salt water a low reactivity and a slow sweep masks much more the target compared to dry sand .

  11. I wanted to test the battery life and then see the maximum recharge time, I use a Techly 2.1A charger bought on amazon, charged at 8:00 a.m. he finished the charge around 15:00 p.m. , time very far from the one declared by Minelab, with 2.1A I would have to load in less than 3 hours and a half.
Now  I will always charge the battery when I have two segments, I think it's better.
