  1. Personally will only use Predator tools shovels and hand diggers. worth every penny and great folks. George, his wife and son are the company. George Sr. makes every tool himself along with heat treating each one individually. They are expensive tools but its because of quality, George Sr. still works a full time job. Every piece right down to the sheath rivets are made right here in the U.S.

    Thanks for the information guys!
Mike I have a question for you .. I read that you also have the rutus alter 71, I know that it is also very deep in mineralized soil, do you think the rutus alter 71 is better than Kruzer and Impact? sincerely my E-trac behaves very well on the mineralized ...

My soil is so neutral that I can't speak on that. I hate saying that when someone asks me a question but I just don't have experience with either detector in heavily mineralized soil.

This would be a great question for Geoge Kinsey as I know he's had both and he has some really mineralized soil.

Hi guys, I'm going to buy New Makro MultiKruzer... but I'd like your advice ..

I already have an XP Deus with 9hf and 11dd coils and an Minelab E-trac, do you think that the MultiKruzer goes better on very mineralized soils?

    thanks

    luca

Having George Kinsey on the podcast and getting to talk to him he is in mineralized ground and the Impact does great, I am really excited to hear from him how the Kruzer handles it. I have heard (not experienced for myself) that the Deus and for sure Minelab e-trac do not do so well in mineralized soil. I'm sure George will share here when he finds out.

No, I have not used one. They are very new, with very few in the field. However, I have used the Nokta Impact, which clearly laid the groundwork for the Multi Kruzer. A performer for sure.

    Multi Kruzer and Impact Depth

I have the Impact and Kruzer, no doubt the Impact laid the groundwork for the Multi-kruzer. I would consider the kruzer a lightweight, waterproof impact with a few less programs. Usually I do not like detectors wrapped up in a new package with same electronics but in this case I love it because I am so in love with the Impact. The problem I have with the Impact is its weight, it's well balanced but will still wear you out beating up against heavy brush and corn stalks if you're a relic hunter.. Loving the Kruzer.

  5. I talked to a friend yesterday who is one of the best Deus users out there. Many people are using his programs and I know of some accomplished Deus users who he has helped to step up their game. He got an equinox a few weeks ago and the other night talking to him I had to ask how the Equinox stacked up against the Deus. He told me he hasn't had enough time on the Equinox yet but he is very happy with it and thinks after more time on it he will find it's better than the Deus.

  6. I went back to Ohio for a week to show off our new little boy and see family. I begged and pleaded until Steph finally gave in and allowed a day of metal detecting. I took back the Nokta Impact and Fisher F22.. I'm not going to go into the F22 yet as I haven't written up an article but I will say the Nokta Impact did absolutely perfect.

When I lived in Ohio I was mostly a relic hunter. Overlaying old maps and hunting in fields where old houses and other things once stood. I was really excited to see how the Impact would do. Well, it did better than I could even imagine! These sites are tough to hunt. Although little to no modern trash you have to fight the heavy iron debris to get to the good finds. Where the house or structure stood is where you will just find a ton of nails and iron, I call this ground zero. When I am hunting ground zero I have always used smaller coils with any other detector I've ever hunted with these sites. With the Impact I was able to run my 11 inch coil in even the heaviest of iron with no issues!

I've talked about it a lot but worth mentioning again. The Iron volume setting is amazing! I was able to hunt with the iron volume turned way down or off. I preferred it on to know when I was in the thickest of iron but it was nice not to have to listen to it at full volume.

As far as finds - I only managed a few buttons, musket balls and my friend managed a nice button and large cent. I found lots of small copper, brass and lead scrap. I have pounded the two sites I was at in the past. This past fall when I went back they were the only two fields around that the crops had been taken out of and this time they were the only two I could find that weren't flooded! I feel like I'm destined to be stuck in these two sites every time I go back!

Do I have to be in studio? Or if I was present, is it live or can it be recorded for a later date? In other words, how does it work?

We had our own radio show in Alaska so I have been on radio many times and TV a few so am very comfortable with that kind of stuff.

you don't need to be present. You simply call in before the show or I call you. Every Monday night at 8 p.m. EST I do a live show but for those who that might not fit their schedule or for whatever reason, we can do a prerecorded show

  8. George was absolutely fantastic and had several people get in touch with me to let me know. I certainly hope he will be a guest again very soon. Great guy, lots of knowledge and awesome stories. Really was a pleasure George.

I am always looking for guests so if anyone would like to be a guest please get a hold of me. I am REALLY in need of people who know their particular detector in depth who would do  an episode explaining it in and out. I can pre-record those and we could do them at your convenience so if anyone is interested...

Steve, I would love to have you on sometime if you would ever be willing to do it?

  9. I recently had the opportunity to review the Nokta Impact. I'm not going to go into details but to say I fell in love with it is probably an understatement! One feature that really stands out to me is the Iron volume setting. When learning the detector I was really surprised I hadn't heard about the Iron volume setting before as its amazing! Iron volume has two functions.

1 - Instead of discriminating out iron you can adjust the volume from 0-5. 5 being the loudest and 0 turning it completely off. When I am relic hunting I run most detectors wide open of very close and listen to all that iron so I don't miss anything but it gets so annoying. With the Impact I can turn iron off, detector is still picking it up but I don't have to listen to it or I can hear it in a very low volume.

2 - it can also be adjusted from n1-n5 on notched targets. The volume can't be completely turned off but the volume can be very low. The advantage to all this is when you start discriminating and notching out targets most detectors will start clipping on targets, slow down a bit and lose depth. With the Nokta you can just ignore or hear those targets at a very low level.

  10. Findmall - Years back when I ran an e-trac I got one right when they came out and learned that detector in and out. Someone posted on findmall asking a question. there were like 3 answers and I totally disagreed with them, it wasn't a question about  preferences, there was a very cut and dry answer and they were wrong. In the nicest way imaginable I told the guy the correct information in the post. Later that day the owner emailed me calling me every name in the book, I made him look bad, I was wrong and it went on and on. we went back and forth about 5 emails where I explained to him how he was wrong and that my post was to help the guy and never was my intentions to upset, offend or make anyone look bad.. never been back, what a jerk and I hate that forum.

Tesoro - I just replied to another post on here about tesoro. I personally don't see them going anywhere. There are plenty of us out there who don't need carbon fiber, plastic screens, built in GPS, wireless and other features that don't help with finding things in the ground. I praise Tesoro because I feel guilty for discounting them for so long but like I stated in the other post, I haven't found anything that will compete in heavy iron like a Tesoro will and it's all I use when relic hunting those sites with little to no modern trash and I've used about everything out there over the years. They also have a pretty big following in Europe

  11. I have a friend who lives in Pa. The area he lives in is pretty high mineralized and huge problem with hot rocks. He knows many people who have sold different high end detectors that can't handle the ground and struggle with hot rocks. He got a Mojave and when he got it he was having issues with it going off everywhere. He sent it in they fixed a wire in the control housing and when he got it back he was super impressed with the detector

  12. I should specify, For relic hunting I would take a Tesoro. Although I know of some people running Tesoro's who can ID amazing with them simply by how that single tone re-acts.. I am not one of those. Where there isn't much modern trash and a lot of iron.. Tesoro every time for me.  site with modern trash, coin hunting etc. I like a VDI detector

We don’t do hate here

The commentary about Tesoro is not a knock on their detectors. Great little units. But a business must always move forward to live, and Tesoro is dying the slow death as they lose mindshare with the audience. I honestly pay no attention to them any longer. I knew all I needed to know about them ten years ago and nothing has changed since.

Never had an issue with Garrett service myself outside of having to use it more than any other manufacturer. I have had about as many issues with Garrett hardware as all other brands I have owned combined. But the saving grace was they always fixed things quickly without any fuss. I hope that is not changing.

Between Minelab and Nokta/Makro right now the U.S. manufacturers have to be feeling the heat. Nok/Mak units in particular seem squarely aimed at the traditional First Texas customer.

I didnt take it as hate at all. I think most of us when we think of electronics, everything needs to be updated every year or so but if it isn't broke why fix it? The Tejon is a beast of a relic detector, I've used Minelabs, Teknetics, Fishers, Garrets, Whites and I will take a Tesoro over any of those. I currently have an Outlaw, 3 coils, 3 shafts for 550.00. I have relic hunted next to all the major names and none of them have impressed me more than the Outlaw or Tejon.  Personally, I hope they don't go changing them.

In the last year I have had two issues with Garrett. I build headphones for metal detecting, I contacted them about their connectors since they are proprietary. I was treated rudely when I asked if I could purchase connectors, they said I couldn't, I asked how one of the big headphone manufactures get theirs and he went from rude to nasty, I asked in a very respectful way. I got a hold of another person to see if I could talk to someone about the Max after it was announced for an article, again it went no where and was treated rude. Besides that like I said more than a few people have told me they've seen big changes concerning Garrett and customer service.

hmm I personally hadn't thought about Nokta/Makro  being aimed at First Texas. The Impact put me more in mind of the E-trac/CTX, deep, stable, good VDI. The Kruzer puts me in mind of the Equinox. I haven't used a Racer but I hear really good things.

I've experienced Garrett service. It's outstanding. Not sure what you heard, but my experience tells me the opposite.

I do a metal detecting podcast so I really try to keep up with whats going on. I have been here in Texas for almost 2 years now, first thing that was evident when I moved here is people love Garrett! Lot of loyal Garret users here. Several people including two people right here in Texas that used to be in love with Garrett have told me issues with their customer service,

Before I found the Equinox 800 (Still waiting), I was set towards the E-trac, which was competing with the 3030 in my mind. So question: Being you seem to have experience with both, which of these two as a coin detector, would be best to easily jump to a hard core gold finder? The 3030, or the E-trac? Then as a follow up, any first impressions on how the 800 is going to fare as a gold finder?

I  can not answer the first question. I have never been a gold hunter although someday I would like the opportunity. I would guess like anything else it will take a little time to learn a new detector and I'm sure there are things you will need to learn doing a whole different form of detecting.

Without the 800 being released and we are only seeing feedback from people under contract, I personally would wait a bit and see what the general public thinks about it but being able to run at 20 and 40 khz it should do well.
