Even after drying mine still keeps sounding off a high pitched continuous beep. None of the buttons work anymore.

Have contacted by email the seller (in France) 2 times now, but haven't received any answer yet. I supose they were to busy with their trip to Detectival in the UK. This weekend there will be a large detection rally in France, so I am not very hopefull to receive an answer this week either. ?

Will try one more time next week.

Have also a second option: to contact Minelab in Ireland...

Luckily my old trusty Xpointer still works well, but no waterhunts for the time being. ?

My 2 cents, fwiw: Personally, I haven't found any noticable difference(s) between "before" and "after" the update. The PP still, now and then, goes a bit silent at first (have another detector that does that too: could be caused by not switching it on above a patch not free of metal or too close to the target, so: user-"fault", because it is not allowed to tune properly). I got in the habit of allways shutting the detector off in another mode as "user profile", so I do not really care if that was a "bug" or not or if it was "cured" by the update.  I did/do not have 50+ hours before the update and 50+ hours after the update with the Equinox to give a real worthwile/"weighted" evaluation of this update. But I think it poses not so big a difference for most, that can't be "overcome" by getting more time/experience in swinging and digging in/on the parks/fields/beaches/goldfields. ?

But I presume Minelab must have had a good reason for providing the update. I'm not an engineer, so I trust they made the right decisions for improving some neccessary details, even if I do not know what exactly. For me it is like trusting the factory preset modes. I suppose Minelab, like other manufacturers, put a lot of time and knowledge in their development trajectory to provide as near as optimal settings possible for 90-95% of the circumstances/detectorists. Maybe even 98-99%. ?. For those with more technical knowledge than me, there is enough room to adjust/adapt settings for finetuning. For me it's not imortant if the "old" or the "new" version is (actually?) slightly more sensitive to rusty nails... I do not look for those nails and if I should find them, they go in the pouch and I (sometimes) learn and move on to better finds. ? You can finetune as much as you like, ...and that is a hobby in itself..., but "If it isn't there, you can't find it".

But if it's there, the Equinox can find it! (and no, I'm not affiliated to Minelab in any way, -other than owning an Equinox-...?).

Just a thought: maybe bringing out the update was also just to show/prove it was "really" possible to easily pc-update the Equinox and to check if it would/might cause any technical problems now and in the future.

If you have an Equinox and like reading the posts on this forum you'll like reading/owning this book! ?

For me the most important point I took away from this book is (so far), that the Equinox is a "high gain" detector and therefore it reacts and handles differently from my other (more of an "entry level") detector. I just have to stop comparing the Equinox to the other detector, start from zero and take the Equinox out and detect, detect, detect...read the book again....and detect, detect, detect, etc. ?

Hi Andy,

You could try this: with pinpointer switched OFF, press  the  "+" and while holding this button, switch ON the pinpointer. This should enable sound AND vibration. The pinpointer will "remember" this setting.

To go to vibrations-only again... use the same procedure (starting in switched OFF position and press and hold "--" while switching ON. 

Hope this will be the solution for you.

Saturday, my own Pro-Find 35 (only 3 hunts and my first waterhunt with it) kept on beeping/vibrating. Not possible even to shut it off. While opening the battery compartment, to try to reset it, water came out of there. Upon closer inspection I saw two cracks lengthwise  in the black probe part. Never "dug" with it, never twisted it or let it drop and always used a new/spare rubber cap from my Deteknix Xpointer on the tip. So I have no idea what caused those cracks. I'm waiting for the response of the dealer to my email. I really like this pinpointer and I hope it will be replaced soon.

I use this cover since 1 month and I'm very pleased with it. It is made out of neoprene and I think it is also available in camouflage. On the back there is an elastic piece that can be pulled over the headphone-connection (when not in use) and over the charging connection. Because there is no attachment going under the coil cabel connector you just pull the cover back a bit to make the connection accessible for charging.

BTW I always put a little piece of black electrical tape over the charging contacts to protect them even more (not when water hunting, because it will not keep in the water).

I put a bit of (transparent) tape over it. No noticable sound loss and no more dirt in the holes. I suppose it will not keep when using (prolonged) under water.

The manuals come out as a pdf first and don’t get printed until later, just so errors like this can get fixed..... before sending off to the printer.

Maybe it's just me and my eyes, but when I look the photos at pages 27 and 37, it looks to me the 11" coil has been attached the wrong way around (look at the location of  the cable attachment and the Minelab decals on the coil). ?

Not a big deal, it will still work, but the attachment of the cabel is way more prone to damage by bumping it when moving forward.

I've been using the blue wired Deus back-phones with the WM-08 module, modified to have the wire just long enough for the module to sit in my pocket. I also removed the volume control as the Equinox has one already.

This is even more comfortable the the Wireless Deus WS4 setup because I don't have the weight of the puck on my head, as light as it is.   Though to be fair I could stick the WS4 puck in my pocket with the adapter in effect doing the same, however the thought never occurred to me at the time.

The WM-08 module is also faster, about twice as fast as the aptX™ headphones however I can't say that I've noticed a difference yet, I only did a few early hunts with the headphones so too early to tell. Maybe when I switch to the WM-80 headphones in the cooler weather I may notice a slight lag but for now it may be reaching the point of diminishing returns, having after market aptX™ headphones may be the way to go, especially if you can find a cooler on-ear or even a earbud solution. I can't wear earbuds but the seem to work OK for some.

For me the 800-"extras" of the ML-80 headphones and the WM-08 module are a big plus.

When I got my EQX in July we had a heatwave here and I started off with using the WM-08 headphones to see/feel if they were not too hot in that weather. I found them to be very comfortable and with very good audio. Ok, they became a bit wet and slippery on the ears, but I was sweating all over the rest too, so nothing big to fuss about. After a couple of 2/3 hour hunts with the headphones I tried the WM-08 module with the blue wired XP FX01 backphones. I found those to be definitly cooler in that weather. Also they offered more "interaction" with the environment, as they do not shield the sounds of your suroundings as much as the more enclosing over the ears ML-08. 

Before the EQX I used another brand/model of detector with the Garrett Z-Lynk modules and the same XP FX01 backphones. Always been very satisfied with this combination. No lag and good audio and comfortable. I personally did/do not find any difference in lag (= no noticable lag) between the Z-Lynk, the WM-08 or the ML-80. I swing at a moderate speed. 

Apart from the detector itself, for me the extras, ML-80/WM-08, make my upgrade to the EQX even more of a succes. The ML-80 headphones are my favorites (comfortable, excellent sound, light, good soundshielding, warmer, and affordable replacable if  neccessary), but when it is really hot weather I can use the backphones with the WM-08.

Edited a bit later/forgot to mention:   With the WM-08/FX01 backphones I had to give the volume on the EQX 2 to 3 more clicks (from 20 to 22/23) for the same hearing volume as with the ML-80 headphones, because that combination is not as well "soundshielded" as the ML-80 headphones. The surplus cable of the backphones, between the 1/8" plug and the inline volumecontrol, I roll up and put that behind the WM08 in my breastpocket, with the volumecontrol hanging outside the pocket. That way I can easily and quickly turn down the volume when, at times,  the pinpointing sound comes in relatively too loud for comfort.  The WM08 is in this breastpocket on top of my smartphone. The smartphone is switched on in "simple" phonemode (NOT in  airplanemode and wifi/bluetooth disabled). Even hunting in fields at a distance of less than 500 meters from a celltower or at  less than 100 meters from above ground power lines I didn't notice any interference on the ML-80 or WM08. After noice cancelling no interference on the EQX itself either.

After receiving my new Equinox 800 yesterday morning, I went on my first hunt with it late that afternoon.

I went to a field were the wheat had been harvested a couple of days ago and where I spent a lot of hours with my other detector.

10 Minutes in, 15 meters from the car:  the Equinox gave its 3rd nice sound (the 1st a bottlecap;  the 2nd some kind of rivet):

A cut (1/4) hammered coin. (see photo)    My first hammered, ever!  ?  I'm completely sold on this detector. ? 

I was in "Field 1" -factory settings- , only did "noice cancel":  a clear 2-way sound, vdi 8,  found at 6",  very dry (almost dusty/sandy) red clay soil.

Have been going over that spot many times in the past with my other detector ("entry level", but have found many, many good targets with it). Must have indicated the coin as "iron" in the past. The Equinox 800 is definitely an upgrade for me. ?

Have been detecting for about 4 years/450 hours.  In the spring of 2017 I decided it was time for me to upgrade. Since then I pondered 3/4 detectors of different makes/models. After more than a year of watching and reading detector tests on the web, today I finally made my choice. I've ordered today a Minelab Equinox 800 and registered an account on DetectorProspector.com.  

Hope we all will be members of the "Minelab Equinox Fan Club" for a long time!
