I have patiently followed this thread. It's been interesting and educational as is just about every thing else posted on this forum. But the one thing missing is Why does a $10,000.00 detector have a $2.00 battery charging system. My 12V adapter shorted the first time I used it and the charger itself has yet to work properly except when plugged into a 110V receptacle. Are we all supposed to overlook this blatant rip off because the charger has ML stamped on it? I am now prepared to accept the consequences of  excommunication from the ML religion. May God have mercy on my soul.

Got news for you, that 10,000 dollar detector is only 8,000 now.....

  2.  The 7000 was touted to go "up to 40% deeper". I would alow a 2% handycap to Whites if they would build something to compete with ML. Thus 38%. Sorry- my brain works in funny ways, when it works at all.

Now just wait a gosh darn minute Klunker,

you can't compare a Whites to a Minelab, the whites is all ready
40% less than the Minelab so if ya added 38% to the Whites that
is only a even-stevens, so your really at the beginning.
You would have to be or add at least a "your 38%" plus the
40% the Whites lacks to bring the total to 78% for the Whites
     to equal a Minelab 40%.

I sure hope I cleared this up for you.

  3. Another one I frequent is

    http://www.treasureclassifieds.com

theres the classifieds section, then a regular forum section that is the easiest place yet to post pics from your phone...and the owner, Joe ,is a cool guy.

I had posted my Deus on "treasureclassifieds"  a while back and guess I did not read the directions. got booted off the forum, (don't need there bs) they would not answer email or anything as to why, so much for being friendly.

    ps: sold Deus on craigslist...

  4. What's your website address? Always wondered why you western prospectors have such long sharp picks?

Looks more like a weapon a knight in shining armor would be wielding? I'd be afraid of falling on it accidentally !!

It would surely be Adios Amigo time...my 4 foot crowbar and a 2 foot shovel seems less dangerous....

    -Tom V.

My website address, its on every picture and my tag line. Dangerous, I would like to suggest

you stay out of the kitchen, all those knives.

  5. This is a four inch wide blade, 1/4 thick steel, 32 inch handle, really good walking stick.
Stab it in the ground, or push it with one foot, pry back and forth to loosen ground, use
it like shovel or scrape the dirt out. This is a great way to dig, I am hooked on these.

  6.

Went out to Greaterville yesterday and my budy convinced me I

should post this pick. (No nuggys yesterday)

Well, I was not gonna post this, but this is the pick that I use.

See, being older and beer belly I don't like bending over if I

don't have to. I have trained my self to detect left hand and

carry pick In right. (I am right handed, would rather dig RH)

This pick seems to cover all the picken criteria, walking stick,

good pry bar for rocks. (A lot of MD guys have mentioned walking

stick) and a pretty good scraper at 45 degree angle. It does not

make a very good seat like my other picks.

The pick point is 6 inches long and 1/4 inch steel so this thing

is pretty tuff. 31 inch handle.

  7. The S shaft - seems manufacturers don't get it yet. The S shaft needs to go. I would like to see straight shafts with an upright handle that could be adjusted forward or back to suit the user.

I can hike, climb, dig, wade and shovel all day long. At the end of the day the most stress is arm and wrist, because of the S shaft.

When I bought the Infinium with that 10x14 DD - it was a joke. After one hour of use fatigue set in. I was ready to s$%t can the whole thing! I bought an Anderson straight shaft and did the under elbow extension with the box - after the mod, you could not get me to part with the Infinium.

What do I think? Manufacturers have a cheap "stamp them out" process dedicated to their bottom line. User comfort cannot compete.

Got a pic of the mods?

  8. I finished this pick, this is the only one I will make, any body want it, make me an offer, This pick head/neck would make it very easy to replace with a different

    point/blade.

Handle 34 inches, scoop box is 6x6 inches, 12 gauge,  point 3x9 inches 1/4 inch, weight 5.2 pounds

It is not going on my website. Email..Me  Ivan@ivan5.net

  9. That's the pick I've been using lately and that's the website I got mine from. The handle is plenty long, which I like. Good for digging deep GPZ holes. However not long after owning it I did tweak the metal pick head a little trying to pry a huge boulder in a wash. It just barely got twisted a little, no biggie.

It's a little thinner steel than an Apex pick, like I was using before, so you can't be too rough on it but for 90% of the stuff I dig it's fine.

That is my whole deal with a pick, you can't have every thing. If ya make a

pick heavy enough to pry boulders, it is heavy to carry. So I guess one has

to decide ether carry a heavy tool, or ???. I like the 2 to 3 lb which is kind

    off a medium use pick.

My picks are what I would call a medium duty pick, they are not made to bust  through asphalt,  get a 6 lb Mattock pick for that. They where made to be light
(2-3 lbs) and carry all day, (all ready carrying around a bunch of stuff), and  dig through semi loose rock dirt and sand.

Someone on a other forum asked me about,
any guarantee? that is a rock and a hard place question.. Its a pick
you are slamming it into the ground, you are prying rocks with it..
Yes I will guarantee it, if you don,t abuse it. Pretty hard not to abuse
a pick. I take my pick every now and then an take the grinder to it.

  10. I think that geometry is pretty close to ideal, but it's pretty close to the Supersede geometry, might need some IP tweaking? Dunno, def not my department there.

One thing I wonder about, with 12GA steel, do you think there would be a chance the flat blade part of the scoop might get bent? Would it be better slightly shorter so less leverage if so? No idea from pictures without trying it out, just one thing I wondered about...?

Edit again: also I seem to be about the only one really into this design other than Flak unless others are just not commenting. So maybe it's just me, I don't want to lead you into production costs for a pick no one wants. For me personally I find this style to be ideal...everyone varies though.

No No you would not bend that 12 gauge it took 5 ton press to bend those lips.

    Ivan

  11. Looks pretty sweet to me. If the changeable blade thing is BS then that general geometry in one piece permanent blade is something I'd be interested in personally.

It still would be two piece because the point and bucket are two different materials.

The bucket is 12 gauge, still twice as thick as a standard shovel and the point is 1/4

inch steel, I just don't see any one wearing this thing out very soon.

The neck is welded to a 1/2 inch thick bar 3x2 inches.

    Ivan

  12. This is still a work in progress.

After thinking about this last night, destined For the scrap pile.

Handle 34 inches, scoop box is 6x6 inches, 12 gauge,  point 3x9 inches 1/4 inch, weight 5.2 pounds

What a monster, not sure if I will make any more. I will only make this if

I can weld it together. I think that changeable blade stuff is bs.

This balances out, scoop to point really good.

  13. I don't know about you guys but I have left my pick and walked off on 4 occasions . After the first debacle (took me 1.5 hrs to find), I put a couple of pieces of reflective tape on the shaft ....... magic. I can find the thing day or night.

Who would have thought finding a brown thing in a sea of brown things would be so difficult..........

I think something like this should be standard ... but that just might be me .....

    Cheers

I can think of many thing to say but I don't know you well enough to insult you.
Did you all so loose your mittens when you where younger?

  14. Steve, I use two part Epoxy all the time and for the longest time mix it on a six

inch square of cardboard, I just cut off a 2x3 inch piece of cardboard to use as

    a mixer, spatula..

The whole point is to this, I would take that disk (coil cover) clean it good, 409,

or Denatured Alcohol, put a couple of two inch circles two part epoxy on the

disk, mix and spread. These two bottles will last forever.

Epoxy  this stuff is the best, about 20 minute. 15 bucks
