No. Not in the least. Just waiting to make sure this website is secure. Steve's statement that he is pulling his hair out & trying to keep the entire thing from collapsing got my attention. No more posts for the time being. Let's see how this plays out. The internet can be a dangerous place.
I think the reason Mike asked you that question is that the post you made yesterday explaining why you have stopped writing is missing except for that one little doo hickey.

Really strange man. Where's Steve today?
Maybe this is the Rye Patch weekend and he's over there. He will know what happened.

Something odd here - all my old notifications have vanished on the journal except for the new ones from Mike Furness just now. It says I have no notifications.
Well isn't that weird as heck...all of my thumbs up and etc. has vanished as well.

Question for you Ghost Miner... how did you guys handle the safe keeping of the gold?
Did you make the split as you went along and everyone was responsible for they're own gold?
Also just a fyi... I changed my Bedrocker display name to Old Miner Don.

Thanks much for the help!

Upper right > account settings > display name. You can make up to three changes in a 30-day period if you want to keep people guessing! The change is retroactive to all prior posts.
Hi Steve!
I have been looking at my profile trying to change my display name. When I click on account settings I see nothing that says "display name". Can you explain what I am doing wrong?

That's the way I see it. He knew what he was doing & must have known what the result would be. I reckon you guys got off lightly.
Makes for a good story though.

Obviously Jacob didn't let fear control his life.

LOL. Oh how I would have loved to see you say that to him back then. Face to face & man to man. Anyone who knew Jacob back then knows what would have happened.
What would have happened? I was complimenting Jacob...not trying to disrespect him in the least. I can't tell if you misunderstood me or not.

I also thought about not posting that entry in the journal concerning the fight but figured it all should be there and it wasn't for me to decide what gets read. My problem now is this - I don't think Jacob would want me to post something where he gets trashed by some readers and isn't here to defend himself. He was one hell of a man. That is a fact. That's about all I have to say on this for now. I'm going to give the postings a break for awhile.
Ohh no no man. I love Jacob and don't hold it against him one little bit for walking down to talk to the ladies. He had huevos rancheros man! All he did was what every red blooded MAN would want to do. But at the same time I am glad nobody got seriously hurt.

Hello everyone, completely new to the hobby. I have a friend who has these two detectors he wants to get rid of due for lack of use. Not sure what model the white one is, but the black one is a Whites XLT Spectrum E-Series with waterproof search coil that he's never used. I do know the white color one is a more entry level model per him and he's used it before. He's offering both to me for $200 just because he wants to get rid of them.
I do have a local friend who has probably a dozen detectors who is willing to let me try his out, but I thought it would be nice to have my own if it's not something I'm going to do on the regular.
It seems White's is out of business(?) or is serviced by Garret now so I'm not sure how much of a hassle maintenance/repairs would be or if I'm better off just buying something more modern.
Thanks!
Well brother if you decide on not buying the White's detector then I WILL take it.

So now I'm thinking back and remembering that season so long ago. Seems like yesterday but they're all gone now.
I hear you bro. It's enough to bring tears to a grown man's eyes.

MORE ON DREAMWIND CANYON : I've got a lot of information on this canyon and a few more experiences to relay. This particular one came about in the Fall of 2016. My brother in law & his wife along with my wife Lindy and I were doing a bit of exploring in the canyon. The weather was much cooler than the extreme Summer heat that sucks the water right out of your body. There had been some old rumors of an old mine entrance on the west side of the steep cliff. We had an old map from way back but there was no date on it. It did show a drift marked out in a location that seemed to match up with the stories.
We hiked out early in the morning wearing heavy back packs. We were heading north from the lower elevation and climbing in altitude. The going was tough and slow. The canyon floor was strewn with heavy rocks and boulders as well as thick Manzanita. All four of us were also sporting snake gators for safety as the rattlesnake here may be more abundant than the gold. We took a short break around noon and the girls stated they thought we ought to go back. I talked them into continuing for another hour. What happened next is something I can't explain.
About 45 minutes into the extended hike my brother in law hollered out and pointed to the left. There was the entrance that was marked on the old map. I couldn't believe it - the stories were true. The entrance was timbered but they were old and partially rotted. They looked to be hand hewn and were probably set back in the mid 1800's. I shined a flashlight inward and the tunnel looked to be solid. The adit was just tall enough for me to stand upright and was about five feet in width. Who wanted to venture inside?
My brother in law and his wife said they wanted to take a look so they headed in as my wife and I watched. I asked them how the air was and they replied it was good so far. As they got in about 100 feet both their flashlights died. They came back out. It was strange for two flashlights with new batteries to die at once. More than strange. However, they were not ready to quit so my wife and I gave them our flashlights which also had new batteries. Well, about the same distance in both lights went dead and back out they came. Now they were visibly disturbed. This just wasn't right. Reluctantly, the four of us eased on out of Dreamwind Canyon. The mine had seemed to want to keep its secrets. And it did, at least for that day.
100' eh? I've got flashlights that will light up a 1/4 mile or more. You don't have to walk in too far.

NOT IN THE JOURNAL : Back in October of 2012 I met a guy that prospected the Sierra Nevada mountains. I was camped out on one of the claims with one of my partners. The snow was getting ready to come and the nights were clear and very cold. One night we had a nice campfire going when a man walked into our camp. He'd been roaming the mountain near our claims and as it got close to dark he had spotted our fire. Everything he owned he carried on his back. Simple prospecting tools and a 45 revolver. A bedroll, and a tent.
He said his name was Mountain Man Tim and he travelled the mountains year round. He had been to places where no man had ever been and found his share of gold. He was in his 50's now and been travelling since he was twenty. It was the only real life he'd ever known. The three of us sat out under the crystal cold sky and we swapped stories about freedom and gold. Tim didn't much like society and was a true loner at heart. We offered Tim our camp to sleep in that night but he said he needed to move on. Out in the cold dark of the Sierra Nevada. We never did see him again. If you're still out there Tim, this song is for you.
That Tim dude must've been tougher than leather noodles.

Thank you Steve!
I very much appreciate you for the way you monitor your website and keep it running clean!

Did Bill tell you where his gold was hidden in case he died?
Or did you guys have it and got to do a 3 way split?
-
Oh Sarge ol boy... where are you when we need you?
-
Oh okay... well I was thinking that Bill Record was the guy you were mining with. Figured that's why you posted that link to his Nebraska mine video awhile back.

You mean Conor?

Let me ask you guys a question. Were Garrett detectors one of the best you could buy back in 1962? Bill seemed to think so.
1962? I was under the impression that you were talking about 2002 when you, Jacob, Bill and Conor were mining together.
I have no clue about 1962 but in 2002 there were some decent detectors.

GhostMiner ... If I was the crew boss they would be gone now. Are they still getting a share of the gold while they continue on their treasure hunt?
If I was in charge I wouldn't kick them out just yet. As long as they don't go completely off the rails then they may be some pretty good entertainment. AND they just might find a bunch of gold if they walk around long enough out there. Did Ghost Miner ever say what detectors Bill and Conor bought? I hope they strike it rich out there.

Oh man Ghostminer. You really got the cliffhanger thing down pat lol.
Do you have photos to share with the readers?
