As long as you don't use whale oil! ? VL found out the had way oil of whale is not the best idea, but mineral oil is what i use to store my largest iron meteorite in. I was advised by some experts and i have had no problems. The oxidation problem i was having with the iron meteorite has stopped though due to no oxygen. 

Well the crescent wrench is probably a sign that in the beginning of the season you were adjusting more than you are now. Now you maybe entering a new level of detecting, may the low tones be with you! ?

Are the coil ears being broken on land or because of use in the water? I am confused on this stiffener deal, i have been using mine in the river and on land. I mostly use my detector on land and probably do not need it, but i am wondering if people are also breaking coil ears on land. If i don't overtighten the bolts the stiffener seems fine. 

I have had my Nox since Jan. and i decided to throw a coil protector on a few months ago, i choose the Sun Ray coil protector for around eighteen bucks i think. Found it on E-bay hope that helps some.

Looks like volcanic basalt, you won't find little holes in meteorites, that is where gases escaped the basalt.

Those are impressive tektites, with some cool shapes like the dumbbells. I always thought tektites were under rated, but many people don't understand what they are and how they are formed. To think the force of a meteorite impact made these glassy creations is awesome to me, thanks for sharing your collection. ht

Well that's a fine story, and your an even better person for such a good deed, i hope the guy was real happy, and you find a better ring to replace that one. Maybe your next ring will be 2 inches for your good karma!

Great find, yea not amathyst, could be real emerald, look with 10x loupe or some kind of magnification and look for inclusions. If your stones are completely clear they may not be real. Awesome find either way!

It is not a meteorite, just as other members have said. Man has picked up and dropped things since the beginning, and just a tip most meteorites will have a strong pull on a magnet, unless you had a planetary meteorite which is even more rare. Keep looking if you want to find one. Try know fall areas is your best bet when starting out. Good luck and HH.

Yes he did invite me to join and told me where they meet, and he was nice and polite besides digging almost in my yard almost ?    I was not too interested in the monthly fee and figured i learn more from you guys anyway. ?

I just started swinging my equinox back in early spring and i learned what downtown detecting was about pretty quick when i saw a guy in front of my house detecting the city strip. At first i thought cool a guy with a nox like me, so i go and talk to him and tell him how i just got my set up and was waiting on a digging tool, and i let him know i had already hit this strip pretty hard with my other detector. I figure the guy would move on, i mean there is a park right across my street, but he said he was the vice president of the local detecting club and continued to dig in front of my house, which kinda bummed me out because i had not had a chance to go over the strip with my nox, and i had found a 1901 Indian head so i was excited to see what else might be there. Of course he dug a couple more targets and who knows what he found. Oh well there's always more ground to hunt.?
