  1.    Recently, I was going through some of My Load-out and placed My Sordin Headset(situational Awareness/Ear protection/Comms/etc) on My Legend Detector..And It Dawned on me..”Why didn’t I think of this Days Ago?”…..IMG_3283.thumb.jpeg.86d83c68f1de108b3b375164cf7a8c59.jpeg(Sordins, Like Peltors are Basically Mil-spec versions of Howard Leights, walker Razors, Range Guards(by Peltor) and Other “Range-Ear Protection”.. I Rigged up/plugged in an “APTX”!/Bluetooth5+ receiver I Had (Useable ones as low as 20$ on Amazon) and It Works With my Various set ups.. So Basically, I Have a Complete Situational Awareness Set up That I can Use with All of My Detectors…(️After a few Hours, “Gel cups” make such a Difference btw..)

AnyHow, After a Cursory look I didn’t see anything written on this but do remember “situational Awareness” being Brought up at one point.. Regardless, Decent and Bargain priced “Sit.-Aw. headsets” can be had for 30-50$ and Cheap Aptx/Bluetooth5+ receivers/Trans can be had as well.. So, I just wanted to put this out there in case it hasn’t been covered already… If it already has, Then Cool…

(With the Sordins on, You can detect/Use Comms and at the same time hear Snakes, People, Rocks tumbling, Twigs snapping, Everything!..(Boosted if you want)..All while your ears are being protected fro Sudden loud Pops/sounds).

    Stay Safe,

I'm in the same boat as you, have been interested in metal detecting for some time, and just bought a detector (Nokta Legend) a week or so ago. I live in northern Nevada, and have a lot of interesting places to explore (ghost towns, abandoned  mines, and abandoned cabins as well as the possibility of finding gold!

This site seems to be a good place, populated by good people, to learn the art of detecting, I'm inching my way up the learning curve, but still have a long way to go..... enjoy the journey!!......

That’s a Cool area to be in. Lots of History And shiny Metals just waiting to be found..

The legend should handle the mineralized soil very well..

  3. Coils,

This happened to catch my eye while scrolling past some News sites.. Nowadays I tend to avoid the News like the plague. But, for obvious reasons, this bit coming out from Australia was just far too interesting to pass by without a look-see. I wasn’t quite sure what to think, but it is real and they claim that it does find Gold.  I just had to give it a little attention. IMG_0758.thumb.jpeg.e4f3b0fd4850b3431e7fc35da7029b69.jpeg

I have seen some pretty Small coils and I have also seen some Rather Large coils… But This one that they are using in Australia takes the Cake!l…..Well, 6 or 7 Cakes!.. They are Claiming 400 meters of depth!….  IMG_0754.thumb.jpeg.0370804f5cac0f685013a343bc225016.jpeg

    Just wow!, Can you imagine!?..IMG_0753.thumb.jpeg.7316b8e12f5af9bd8445422ac9d0f16c.jpeg

  4. NDA.. Thats Right, I know how this stuff goes. Not sure what I was thinking LOL… I suppose that I can wait to hear about it after testing, like Everyone else.. I tried pretty hard with that refresh on the site this morning, but it just wasn’t loading properly regardless of device, so I missed out...  I put off grabbing a pinpointer this season just in case I managed to get one. Suppose that I can stick with my Pulse Dive(W/Pointer attachment) for another few months. It’s solid and I really dig it, just wanted something a bit smaller.  Pretty stoked To those that MIGHT have gotten one, certainly seems well equipped functionally and, IMO… It looks pretty cool!..

  5. I recently ordered The “Pro Pack” as well. As I am primarily in the Wash, The 6” coil was a must and with those Headphones* and extended battery pack at that Price!?..It was a no brainer!..  Heck, They even tossed in a Cap!…

    * A note on Those headphones. I have heard a few people go on about them and thought it a bit odd. Having them in my hands now, I can see why. They really are a nice set !..

  6. I remember seeing a sluice set up composed of nothing but a long slick plate and rows of Magnets underneath. The field from the rows of Neodymium Magnets underneath the sluice bed would catch the Magnetite above as it flowed, the built up magnetite would form the “riffles”. The set up was for running WaterFront beach Sand …  I liked how simple the concept was.. I’ve never tried this method but it SEEMED fairly easy to pack in, setup, dial in, run…,break down and pack out..

  7. A note on the New rechargeable batteries…

There is some talk going around in regard to the newer Batteries with the built in/On board recharging circuit. Seems that some are injecting noise artifacts into the circuit(Noise). I have heard this from a few people now(Music Industry) and If it affects Audio equipment, I’m fairly confident that it crosses over to Detectors.. Now this apparently does not effect the Old/standard style that has a charging station but the ones that you individually plug the usb into(The charging circuit seems to be the culprit).  I have only heard this and I have not personally experimented with any of it as of yet but it sounds plausible.. This may not be a Big deal but I just wanted to bring it up..

A while back some folks may have heard about what happened up in Kingman regarding Retta Atkins “The Gold Lady” and her Husband, Darren Vanhouten.Such a Shame, I have been wondering about this and poked around. I am relieved a bit knowing that this particular Snake is no longer out there and it appears as if they have this Tragedy fairly sorted out.** I posted links below for More information.

    Take Care.

I know the carrot is highly thought of but I have seen some heavy users say the tip can wear and expose things.  I am looking at the Pulse Two in One and like what I see including what seems to be a better protected tip.  Another option is the Quest Scuba Tector again with additional tip protection.  Problem is both are kinda new and I have seen some bashing, especially on the Quest.  The thing is no matter how many whistles and bells something has it's basic function has to work or nothing else matters.  I am not wed to any of these three choices; just the ones that my research has turned up so far.  Any advice welcome.

This post is from 2020, A lot has changed in 3 years.. My Pulse Dive hasn’t.. It is still in one piece and it’s still gong fine. The only (gripe?) I may have is that, due to its multi purpose design, it’s a bit more substantial than the other options... It has worked flawlessly since day one and it has done its job solidly whenever called upon. I have found some uses for it outside of my normal routine and Had I had a more basic  Pin-Pointer, I would have missed out on a few Adventures and Prizes. I’m certainly happy with my Pulse Dive. I am planning to get a smaller, “Second” Pin-Pointer though, the smallest, decent one that I can find for everyday carrying. I usually use the “scoop over coil” method in my usual routine but I do find practical use for a P-Pointer and pull it out a few times a day.. I dig my PulseDive and wouldn’t trade it for another. I would/ will buy another if this one ever becomes lost/damaged but I do want a second, smaller Pin-Pointer for everyday use….

  10. A couple of Grim reminders, but I’d much rather them be taken as Some Food For Thought…

Sometimes, for whatever reason one just cannot Jump outta the way Fast enough… No Matter how spry. Sometimes, like ol’ Mr.Fassler*, one gets far too bold and pays a high price. But Usually, Like in the case of “Daniel Steininger”**, One just doesn't see it Coming… Thankfully, Chance is indeed on our side, I am well aware of the Simple math… But I am Also aware of Entropy, and Entropy WILL ensue, It ALWAYS does, Eventually..(Its a Law). Basically, MURPHY IS out there.. And so are his Friends..

That $150 spent on some boots, The $60-$200 spent on chaps or gaiters may sting a bit at first…But that “Sting” quickly fades into peace of mind, and that “Peace of Mind” is well worth it IMO… And also IMO, The sting pales in comparison to the feeling of buying a bunch of Strangers a House!…Seriously.

(This is Obviously Regarding The snakes that Slither and Not the ones that Smile..)

I've tested a few pinponters out for nugget hunting and have come to the conclusion the most sensitive and affordable is the one they sell at Harbor Freight. Only $20! and will get the tiny nuggets that say the Garrett Pro-Pointer misses.

So far me, the Garrett for every thing else but nuggets, especially when you are in small nugget territory.

    Here it is here: http://www.harborfreight.com/metal-detector-97245.html

Looks like you now have yourself a Genuine “collectors piece”..…

I  laughed at VL's post because I assumed when he wrote they "were panning , for a while anyway" to mean they became bored and engaged in some amorous outdoor activity , getting caught in the act . I think a number of us thought the same thing , and that it's funny . Having had that sort of experience myself on a supposedly deserted beach , and with the young lady desperately trying to cover up I said " why bother , they have already seen everything anyway " ! You have to laugh about things like that .  I hope VL understands where my laugh came from .

That was the exact picture I saw painted as well.. This was a ”Laughing With” situation and  Most certainly not “Laughing at” one. Your post was Fine “ValensLegacy”, Both Fine and appreciated Imo.🤙🏻

(And I have indeed been stumbled upon while taking, too long awhile myself.😉)

(*Wanted to Add that, Regarding the new pinpointer,  I Hope They paid attention to the Sphinx. Proximity switches are simple, waterproof and a huge time saver. Just Not having to fiddle around, turn it on and then after use, fiddle around and turn it off is Huge.. IMO

I have had one guy case me out to rob me years ago and in March of 2022 in Meadview, Arizona I had another guy try to intimidate me with a pistol. This is why I now have the Taurus Judge on my hip at all times. I also have cellular game cameras that I doctor up with local vegetation and I guarantee noone will ever see them. It pays to use a cellular game camera and have instant notifications of something or someone tripping it. It also has a built in GPS theft locator to lead the sheriff right to the camera. Even if they destroy it or sell it, they will be caught the moment they take it and sends it off to the app via Internet. This pistol might be heavy compared to semi auto's but I can shoot 45 colt, 00 buck, or any size birdshot. Turkey loads will do a lot of damage.

Knowing your being watched, cased and Targeted has got to be an uneasy feeling.  I’ve never been hassled myself, not when in the “Way Out” anyhow.. but I know it happens and it would be foolish to think that It never will. So, Like Most Polite People here in the West, I’m usually prepared, just in case. Now, Using the newer Tech to your advantage, Like setting up/having a few sensors on your 6  seems like a good way to go and Having constant eyes on your producing claims sounds like a Great Idea ..

And That Judge,.. Dependable, multi functional and intimidating from a distance..I’d say that it’s very Worth its weight..

I think it is going to be an early winter and my topper leaks, making me get tired of getting into a wet bed. The gold has not been good at the claims this year. Didn't even hit an ounce. I figured I better get out of there before heavier rains and colder temperatures kicked in. Plus I had to deal with a rat eating things under the hood of my truck. I finally dispatched of him with my 10/22 the day before I left. The heat was hot when I got here in late August but I welcomed it gladly. I still hunted til about 4-5 pm most days. Got 7 nuggets so far for a gram total. While I am here I will get leak taken care of on truck topper and continue finding gold til I head for Arizona - Gold Basin/Lost Basin. Seeing the wild Mustangs was awesome! The Mormon cricket in my tent by my bed; not so much. Got first electrum nugget the other day or pretty close to being electrum. Very pale. I have some good videos coming up.
