I'm lucky that people often send me holiday pictures showing the palm tree they were sitting under.

    Exactly.
When you have at least one landmark, you can dissect an area and eventually go back after you have ruled it out.
Although I only hunt in the water and years ago I left an army of other hunters on the shore to do pro bono retrievals, at least three times I ran in the middle of summer, with the beach full of people, carrying a harness, 15lt tank and a couple of detectors.

    To do what?

Ask the lifeguard for assistance and keep people away from the spot that was described to me, find a bottom chock-full of aluminum and fresh drops of any kind less than metal, come out about three hours later with a host of onlookers waiting for a result and say...Nothing, I found nothing sorry.

At that point it is a matter of explaining a reality that people do not understand.

No one likes to trip over rocks while trying to get into the water for a swim, so clear waters and a soft bottom for walking are chosen.

Too bad time runs fast and any piece disappears swallowed up in the blink of an eye, assuming you are in the exact spot.

Even a current on flat clay can do crazy things without the water appearing choppy on the surface.

So I stopped with on-call retrievals. They think I'm putting something in my pocket by not paying myself, but on the contrary I'm losing time, diesel, air and maybe someone thinks I'm keeping their stuff for myself!

In Europe there is just no culture of paying back an effort.Sad.

  2. Three out of four found again is an outstanding achievement!

I hold the reverse record in finding any other piece I am not looking for on specific directions from the unfortunate.

Almost no one has a clear idea of where and when they lose the stuff. And when you get specific instructions, it remains to be seen if it's not what they believe to be real and what happened on the beach immediately afterward.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Unfortunately, the exception to the rule struck.
In spite of an almost sandless and dismantled bottom, I found nothing but quite a lot of lead and a few coins.
Being very light with only a ballast harness and snorkel, I was able to move and search for a long stretch of beach but the farther I got from the point of maximum erosion, the worse the signals were, reduced to only shallow or deep aluminum and therefore badly sanded in...

You're right it is a thing of beauty !

Nice deep rocky bottom cut ! 🌴

    Use the old shovel....

Being a diver, I'll do this morning a snorkeling session to check the surrounding area under the cut. There's just a couple hours window but without any doubt this is prime ground.

When Mother Nature shows you the foundations of the beach, the variations are two: either you take it all or someone has already done it.So, crossed fingers...

LOL  I don't get paid anything for them but I know I pay plenty when I get one of those little plastic pacs of 4 or 5  I buy at the hardware !😩

Of course I could just drill a hole in a coin....🤔

For sure stainless steel type isn't cheap but on the other hand those last quite some time.

Not too many years ago, maybe 8 at the most I would average one piece of gold for every 4 times out. Not even close anymore. Now it's 4 guys on the beach every time I go out

I can confirm the same impression.
It was 2013, when almost daily I was diving with a colleague looking for highly-visited areas along the coast, and every week we counted about 30/40g each.
So in ten years, according to today's numbers, one should be satisfied if in a week we get to 10/15g.
And according to these numbers, whatever spot produces more in less time deserves more visits, otherwise it is to be considered burned.

  7. With the arrival of new, increasingly high-performance tools and the informative spread of the Internet, the number of finds has decreased dramatically.

On the other hand, due to international events and the market, gold prices have skyrocketed recently.

Although I have owned Deus2 since last March, I only managed to make seven dives in the month of October.

I must admit that a series of 6 out of 7 lucky sessions were productive, and incredibly the Deus2 paid for itself completely.

I am quite busy over the summer, but I am finally starting to communicate with the instrument as I should.

Below is the latest piece from a few days ago.

Those waves are really rare here in Italy.

Although Sardinia is very exposed to intense energy, it remains a spot too far to reach by sea before the conditions disappear, and by air it can cost a fortune to transport my equipment.

Renting at local dives involves having a rental vehicle increasing the skyrocketing costs.

So I stay in the basin protected from serious waves, but easier to control.

Here were a couple of methods I used to get into 2 small beaches once the gate was locked at the end of season. The year was 2011.

I have a long abandoned project due to lack of time, but on the basis of a wheelbarrow, with the addition of a steering axle, I would like to hook up an electric winch with gear and chain for traction.
It is the only motor capable of towing a boat with sufficient force, and although at reduced speed, it will bear carriages of up to 1,000 kg.
I am afraid it is the only one that can withstand harness, tank, dpv and accessories.
That's why I'm trying to change air sources. All of this is not only a lot of equipment to carry, but also to look after while you're diving.Easy prey for idiots with no better occupation than snooping through other people's stuff.

    😳NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !🤯

There's a joke here, but what if I told you that since 2005 I've found in at least three spots a slew of brand-new washers purposely thrown into the water?

Somewhere there is always someone who thinks they own a spot, and there is no shortage of imagination.

Maybe someday I will re seed for future detectorists

I would do it with a slingshot 🤣.

With a good slant you could reach about 150 meters from the launch point and litter a beach after clearing it of better things🫢🏴‍☠️

I'm just going to throw this out there. Have you tried the Relic program?

    Thanks for your suggestion🙏.

Recently this possibility was discussed in another post and I responded by attaching Gary's video explaining the properties of Relic...

Again, thinner or less conductive targets are less highlighted and this is certainly not appropriate for the case of 'gold in salt water.

I have air tested some recently found pieces and the theory fits perfectly with what Gary said in his video.

Today I made new changes to P12 by completely removing discrimination and notch, raising audio response to 7 and lowering salt sens. to level 5.

Something very similar to a pure all metal and with reactivity 0.5 I must say I am satisfied.

From here I start with a good matrix for maximum detection depth.

Taking into account a 9" coil I squeezed about 34cm from a medium size steel ring that detects on 55 ID.

So being very similar as a result on white gold I think I have arrived at the maximum I can get from this program.

All that remains is to try it on the seabed🏴‍☠️

extremely difficult to tame the machine against coil bump sensitivity

I could be wrong, but I suggest you check the audio filter level and turn it down to 1 or 2.
What you describe doesn't sound so much like a ground balance problem as an over-amplification of signal.
I solved it this way after months of swearing by eliminating the ground noise.
Goldfield however is strongly responsive to movement and changes, even though you talk about bumping the coil.
    Hope this helps

I'm learning about winds and tides

It reminds me of the early days when I traveled hundreds of kilometers in search of spots.
Until the day I began to check wave energy before wasting time and fuel.
I finally began to understand that it is not so much the direction of the wind but the impact it has on the motion.
Today I prepare my equipment two days in advance only if I read KJ 0/1/2 , otherwise it is a gamble to get into the water.
Once I was diving in shallow water with KJ10 and almost destroyed a brand new Excalibur. After twenty minutes dragged back and forth like a piece of styrofoam on the bottom, I went away shocked.
