A Purchase date would show a lot relative to any issues. There is no doubt there were problems at release with rightfully unhappy customers, I personally as a dealer have gone above and beyond to help those few people as best I can. Who you buy your detector from can have a big bearing on your experience.

Not the point.Minelab should not of released the 6 till it sorted out the bugs and at least checked the products.I'm not on Minelabs payroll. Why should I have to do the quality test for them.Wasting our time seems to be a sport of Minelabs.Looks like the expression time is money only refers to them.

Having been in business thus dealing with customers my complete working life, other than my initial apprenticeship, 20 years of that manufacturing as a sole trader, thus salesmen, floor sweeper, fabricator etc I got a bit of a handle on customers in that time. Genuine faults were easy to rectify and did not add a lot to the finished cost of product but customers emotional outburst added a lot to the cost of the finished product because they took a lot of my time (time is money) to address without achieving any progress in the products suitability for the market.

I have had very little trouble with the 6K (problems and workarounds posted on this 4M), it has earnt itself many times over, in fact I have had not sent a ML product back on a warranty claim except for two 18" coils on the initial SD2100. To me ML detectors have been the backbone of a very successful hobby and I usually buy on release each new one pronto, going right back to the VlF days, ML detectors are thorough breds and as thorough breds they require the rider/user to give them their head with each successive one having more productive capabilities providing the user learnt how to operate.

Now what I`m going to say next will not be popular, stop expecting perfection unless you give perfection and you don`t if your human because I am tired of paying for your human emotional outburst that manufacturers have to spend time thus charge me for in each new product I buy.

Whilst here I like ML have 40 plus year old products I produced still operating as they did when manufactured. That`s my emotional outburst from the other side of the fence out of the way.

Nice essay, but if you payed $8,000 for a state of the art detector and get a box full of faulty cheap plastic rubbish, yeh i'm gunna shout from the roof tops.Just waiting to see how the Garret Axiom pans out.If its a goer i'm jumping ship.

Don't get too caught up in it JP.  🙂  Look, the machine has way too many issues for a $6000.00 machine. People are frustrated and Minelab is quiet, so the inevitable result is people are going to bitch. If the company chooses to not respond to the criticism, then it finds it's way to forums, as it should. An apology from the manufacturer could go a long way to building back trust in the quality of their machines. I too wonder how long mine will last and how much it will cost to fix after the warranty has expired. There is no excuse for the world's best metal detector company to be releasing these types of machines. People matter, and our time matters too. It's hard not to get caught up in the bashing of a company that remains silent. Eventually you just chalk it up to their profit and shareholders are more important than their customers. ☹️

    Well said mate👍

Gm1000 - Internal speaker failed - replaced under warranty

Gm1000 - Coil cracked - replaced under warranty

Equinox - Wobbly shaft - replaced under warranty

GPX 4500 - Ribbon cable for PCB hairline cracks in wire (outside of warranty, replaced myself with aftermarket cable) Old GPX is built tough.  Very happy with my older GPX 4500 and 5000 build quality so can't complain at all about them, tanks!

Go-Find 40 - Fold up hinge fell apart - Didn't bother claiming warranty as it's never going to be used, glued it. Hinge seems improved on newer Go-Find 44 model.

    Pro Find 35 - Unstable / DOA

GPZ 7000 - WM12 rubber cover for USB broke in half within weeks - replaced under warranty

GPZ 7000 - Lower shaft clip broke replaced under warranty

CTX 3030 - Coil ear cracked on 17" coil, fixed myself as what's the point getting it replaced for it to happen again and didn't want the hassles of sending it away and then I'd be doing the fix to the new one straight away anyway to prevent it.

Pro Sonic - First one arrived decal upside down so buttons didn't line up, replaced.

Pro Sonic - Second one arrived and charged once then never worked again, refunded.

GPX 6000 - ! error on startup (DOA), Twisting shaft

I think I've remembered all of my problems, I've had so many I probably can't remember them all.  I'll update the post if anymore come to mind.

I have no problems with Minelab's warranty, they're perfectly normal, just as good as any other company really, the time away and the cost of shipping the products back to them is the big problems with the number of faulty products they sell.

I'm hearing you mate. Its like they just don't care and they don't.If I was selling this junk I would be cringing, not making out that everyone is overstating the problem.

What we've actually got to look forward to is a constant stream of Phrunt commentary on the subject, 3 years of it!!!!. 😱🤷‍♂️ 🤯

Minelab stand by their products, that is a certainty! I've never seen another company back their gear like ML do. Not trying to say there is no problem because there clearly is, however in our shop experience Minelab are addressing the ones that do pop up very quickly and I can also say, as much as a certain voiciferous commentator on this forum would like you to believe, it's not as bad as is being made out! Undesirable? Absolutely yes, but in our shops experience not the huge issue trying to be portrayed.

Codds wollop to that.So if someone disagrees with your assessment of the situation they're voiciferous. He's right on the money. For my $8000 dollars ive had nothing but trouble. Its ok to say that minelab will fix this but then your without your equipment for 2 to 3 weeks while they fix their mistakes.I had to buy another battery because i would be without it for a extended period while they make sure im not lying about said problem.$8000 to have my time and money wasted. It is as bad as its being made out and its about time someone stood up for the customer.

Interesting exercise to quality review all Minelab detectors i have owned over the years -

Excalibur 1000 - had too many faults to list but this was over many years & lots of sea use.

    E - Trac - no problems'

    Equinox - no problems

    GP3000 - no problems

    Vanquish 340 - no problems

    Gold monster - no problems

GPX4500 - faulty battery and loose switch repaired under warranty

    GPX6000 - no problems after 1 year

Looks like your one of the lucky ones

Shows what we've got to look forward to when the warranty runs about, a disposable detector.

I agree with that statement. To me if I or anyone else on this forum bought a top of the range car and had the amount of problems as i've had with this detector and all the add ons that go with it they would be crying blue murder. Its fine to say Minelab stand by their products but do they really. The quality of this stuff is 2 dollar shop standard and at no point have Minelab come out and admitted that they dropped the ball and made some serious mistakes.Sadly its just another faceless money grinder. To hell with quality. This is not a dig at the power of the 6000,but the lack of respect for their returning customers. They know we'll come and buy because they have no other competition as far as the serious detectorist is concerned. The trouble starts there no competition, pretty well a monopoly and with most monopolized situations the rot sets in.

Minelab still is that “much better company” they often go above and beyond on repairs and getting things sorted for people, even in some cases long after the warranty has expired. Every issue we’ve seen in our store since the 6000’s came out has been addressed promptly, so don’t think for a second Minelab have slackened off other than it’s a brand new detector release in the middle of a world pandemic. There are always gremlins with any new detector as the factory irons out the manufacturing processes, and as usual Minelab will be there for its customers if problems arise.

The GPX6000 is still going to become an all time favourite that has set the bar for every other detector that follows, its universal ease of use and outright performance is beyond compare. I spent 4 years of my life doing my little bit to help as best I could to ensure that it was as easy to use as possible for just about anyone regardless of their experience, the power packed behind that light weight simplicity still amazes me.

    JP

Gotta agree J.P. the 6000 is an amazing detector but its quality control is atrocious.I've had to return 2 11in coils, the 17in lasted 5 minutes as well as 2 batteries and the detector had to go back as well. But despite all that its finding lots of gold.

Well let me add this. Most people who use an adjustable wrench are just doing around the house projects. But if you’re fixing an engine you’re not using an adjustable wrench. At least a professional I don’t think would use one.  I don’t think that the 6000 is an adjustable wrench. It just fits into the niche of tools that we all use.  But with that being said I don’t know many people who have a full set of wrenches that have a cost them over $20,000 to get them all 😂.

That's the problem with these forums is people think. They dont know, they think.Use one and know.

Although good to see the first "test comparison", I would caution to rush to early judgements. There is so much more that needs to be considered when comparing machines and performances that I doubt such a simple test will serve justice. The 7000 stands out in so many aspects that are not considered in the simple test experiment shown in the video.

Bugger all the comparisons. The x6 is a class machine i got a 1g at 13in just a slight signal but enough to pull you up.

The x6 is the only detector you need it's finding all size gold at unreal depths. The big gold will appear when the 17 in is available.

Of course there is new tech.  Bring it on.  Every nugget JP finds in his flogged patches or Gerry finds in his flogged patches proves the new tech works better.  There should be new tech.  It becomes tedious to go over and over patches again just to find 'missed' nuggets.  Will the 6000 get every nugget?  I wouldn't bet on that.  There will be another generation of detector that will get the few still unseen nuggets because that will be the only game in town then also.  Jason is very much aware of the law of diminishing return.

What is the old adage used by sales people and people in general ... 20% of the people get 80% of the sales ... so 10% of the expert detectorists get 40-50-60% of the nuggets?  Luck has some connection to the nugget formula as Fred Mason told me often.

I'd rather be lucky than good.  It was easier to be lucky in the past.

It really is what they claim. It's a magic wand

Most of the desert here has open areas easily detected for a lack of those, but they certainly do create areas that foil a good hunt wherever they occur. I like everyone else must then tend to go where they arent for it, but if the 6000 is truly effective and quiet underneath  powerlines as shown, it will open areas up and we can truly ignore them, hence “what are powerlines?”

Ha,👍i was under the impression that you guys had a completely different term for powerlines.Derr my bad.

    What are powerlines? 😄

OK, It’s quiet and light, that’s a given. I really can't wait for the report, it will be good when we get those here from the real users, just don’t take it over my digs!  😉

What do you yanks call the overhead wires that carry electricity😏

It all looks good to me even though I would have preferred a package like Africa, I realize there is no control over how they package it across the world and I get what they send me.  At least we now know for certain the option of the larger 17" MONO will eventually show up for us here in the US.

I was informed by a source I trust, my 3 Day Field Training in early April, not to expect any GPX-6000's.  Maybe I should add a May training class?  I already have a June session for Rye Patch, so we have the bases covered there.

As they say "Patience is a virtue".

Its looking like easter here in oz

The pandemic creates a lack of confidence in forecasts which is why we have no firm product launch date from Minelab -  who are waiting to have all their ducks in a row before announcing a date.

Looking at Plexus Malaysia financial report for actual quarter ending December 2020 and their forecast for 1st quarter 2021 they appear not to be affected too much by the pandemic but you only need one vital component shortage to slow things down for a particular product - like the current chip shortage out of Taiwan. An option to make up for lost time is airfreight which is viable when you have high value product.

For me whether its a March, April or May launch i can wait - have been waiting many years for this type of gold detector - a few months either way is no big deal.

VicR from all the hunting around on the internet and doing the sums it looks like May will be the earliest release date.🥱

Is it quieter than 7000? Which machine does it sound like?

There was a video up from the middle east that had the 6 turned on but they took it down pretty quick. The target noise was a very clear crisp higher pitched gpx target sound.
