Well, it is that time of year that I always get the itch to by a new detector. I am primarily a beach hunter here in So. Cal., so I have owned most of the latest and greatest detectors that are suitable for wet sand. The CTX 3030, E-trac, CZ 21, Dual Field, ATX, TDI SL just to name a few.
Here are my thoughts....regardless of brand, there is little discernible difference between high end multi frequency machines. The same goes for pulse machines, no real performance difference say between a TDI SL and a Dual field.
With that said, I am going to hold off buying any new detectors for a awhile. It is my opinion only that current pulse and VLF technology has reach its limits. Again, I am referencing technology for beach hunting and maybe even coin shooting. I will be in the new detector market only when new technology offers one of two things:
1. When a multi-frequency (discriminating) machine can cut through black sand like a pulse (or)
2. When and if a true discriminating pulse detector becomes available.
What are your thoughts?

Ok....it is almost June 2016. It seems so far this year we have seen some entry level detectors and an attempt at rehashing previously released detectors. Just trying to be real here, but we have not seen anything really innovative since the Minelab 7000....and that was nearly a year and a half ago. Now I know, VLF technology has probable reached its limits, and even PI's are nothing new. However, I would have at least thought that one of the major manufactures would have thrown us a bone or two. WHERE ARE ALL THE NEW DETECTORS ??

Hello Steve,
I think it was about this time last year you posted your thoughts on new detectors for the upcoming year. Any insight on new PI or multi-frequency detector for 2016? For the most part, it seemed like 2015 was the "year of the low end detector".

I was going to wait until March 1 to see if Whites was going to come out with a water proof TDI or TDI SL. Not Going to Happen !!!! So....I purchased a new TDI SL and made a few modifications to make it at least "splash proof". Is it water proof....no. Will it protect against an errant sand grain or two, sea spray and an occasional splash....I hope so. I know it is not pretty, but you do what you need to do.
Take Care....Jeff

Wow....thanks for the quick responses. I have also spoken to a couple of so called "insiders" to the detecting market. Either they are holding true to their non-disclosure agreement or as most have said "no new mid range waterproof PI machines in the near future". As much as I don't like it, I think the later is probably the most accurate.
So, if I don't see a thing new in the next couple of months, I am leaning towards the TDI SL just to try something different. From what I have read a very stable PI. Yes....I know it is not water proof, but most of my hunting is wet sand. Any input on this choice would be appreciated.
Thanks again....Jeff.

Hello Steve and other forum members.
My name if Jeff and I am new to this forum. I have been a wet sand beach hunter here in So. Cal. for many years. I even make it out to the desert to do a little nugget shooting once in a while.
Now....I know this topic has been rehashed several times, but a new mid range ($1000 -$1200) Water Proof PI is needed. I currently use a Whites Surf PI and Excal for most of my beach hunting, but would love to see a water proof TDI or something waterproof new from Fisher.
When is this going to happen???? Great Forum Steve !!!!

Would love it if this new machine is multi frequency!!!! I have 4 beach machines now, but can always use another
