could be emi....try the coil somewhere with less emi.

Bit of an update on my issues with the 11 mono. After 3 trips where I could not use my 11 mono I ended up sending it back to minelab and getting it swapped out for a new one. I just knew that something was not right. Minelab sent me a new coil and I  tested it on the fields yesterday in the same spot that I was having troubles. What can I say the new coil they sent me runs like a dream!! Super smooth. No falsing and I even found a small 0.2g bit of crystalline gold at around 4 inches. Thanks Minelab!

    Yeah, that is strange.

Is it noisy with the coil sitting still or only when moving?  What about moving along but not touching anything?   I’m probably not asking anything you haven’t worked out already but just wondering if it is EMI, ground noise or knock sensitivity when scrubbing a coil over the ground.

The machine did settle somewhat at idle but any movement sent it bonkers. I was careful not to scrub the coil as per Jp recommendations on the forum. Power lines are around 200m from the diggings and my sdc has never been affected by emi at this location. The sdc has suffered from ground noise depending on how wet the ground is. I would be interested to see if anyone else has found the 11 mono unusable in the default threshold off. Also why turning the threshold on is reported to tame the machine.

  3. Hey NE I spoke to a bloke who has 6 and runs in my area. Apparently his 6 is noisy as all hell in the default auto1 no threshold. He has to put it in threshold on mode to tame the machine. I thought it would have been the other way round so did not try it in the field. Anyway will wait till I am back on some mineralised ground to test it out.

  4. Hi I bit the bullet and got a 6k. So far spent 2 solid days on the goldfields. Unfortunately I have not had any luck on the gold yet which is a little strange as I have at least got 1 piece of gold on every trip with my SDC over the last 12 months. I have not been able to tame the 11 mono coil. It is constantly noisy sounding off like hyper sensitive. Does not matter if you run in auto1 or the lowest sensitivity. I know that minelab tested the machine for a few days in the area I detect. I know of another operator with a 6k that uses the 11 mono in auto with no problem. I think my 11mono coil has an issue. I will be taking it back to the dealer. The 14dd works great and finds the tiniest of shot. Question: are all coils/machines pre tested before they leave the factory?

  5. I am actually offended that they let that out. If I were an executive at minelab I would pull that vid off YouTube in an instant. Total dogshit! Detexpert who? Couldn’t hear for the wind noise, dude had steel caps on, waving coil next to other detector on the ground. Could have at least been conducted in the field. So many things wrong/dumb and so little knowledge gained. There are quite a few good and enjoyable detector operators on YouTube atm with thousands of followers. If they want to create the right hype they should be handing the 6000 to them for some real first hand analysis in the field. I know that a new goldhound hour long movie would get me frothy👍👨🏻‍🦯💪 those YouTube vids got me started and the reason I chose minelab detectors. I think we have all been patient. Come on minelab!! Rant over.....

I like my nuggets like my girls, being a bit of a challenge and playing hard to get. 😜🤣

Hi JP water warn flakes like that are the bread and butter for me in my area of the New England with the sdc. If I am digging  that size with an sdc what advantage could you see from upgrading to a 6000. Is there any reason hypothetically that you could not find that flake with an sdc due to ground conditions?
