Nice Nugget, with that selling price of $7250, it went for a little over $69 a gram at todays prices, not to bad..... Gold is steadily climbing. I believe once the economy gets back to normal, it will go back down. How many of you are selling ?
Dave
The total price was $8700.

Now you are on to the meteorites! Most of them I find any more are apart from the gold patches because most of the meteorites are 'towards' the helicopter area and the gold is towards Senator Mountain but they cross in there somewhere! haha

Flak,
Do you have an old WM12? Mine has taken longer as it has gotten older. There are threads about that.
I had my WM12 portion of the Minelab charger go bad a couple of years ago. I now use a separate USB to charge the WM12, WM10 and the Equinox (it didn't include a charger) and they vary it seems in charging time.

Here is a nugget auction ending tomorrow. It is a:
Attractive, Knobby Australian Gold Nugget
3.37 Troy OuncesLarge Gold Nugget, 104.8 grams. This textured, large, and heavy nugget is honeycombed with crevices and hollows that provide an interesting view from any perspective. Spectacular yellow-gold color displays a slight greenish hue. Microscopic glimpses of host dust hide in two or three of the deepest recesses. This nugget was found in Victoria, Australia, and it certainly has the classic "look" and character of Australian gold. It weighs in at a respectable 104.8 grams (3.37 troy ounces) and measures approximately 1.625 x 1.125 inches (41.28 mm x 25.58 mm).

I have an 'X' rock like that. I found mine near Sawtooths but it didn't have that kind of gold around it.
Well done as you seem to always do.

There have been some large finds in that area over the last few years with metal detectors. I saw some pictures on a guy's phone taken during the excavation of a very large one. It's still out there. I don't know the details or I would have been out there already! haha

Some folks are sure easy to entertain.
Reg,
You gotta understand the thrill of seeing someone swinging a coil on TV. That means for those of us who do it we can send someone a link and show them what we do. You can show the wife and she'll understand why you want to spend so much time in Australia.
This show is not produced as well as The Detectorists from England but you can see some digging and scratching which is better than 95% of the other TV that is on. ANYTHING to keep the news channels off.

Globe is the place! 😁

There are some places ... with several hundred/thousand ounce deposits which include the 'nuggets' that are pictured.

Mitchel, the beauty of using a base of conveyor belt is that the coil sits flat and parallel with the ground. this makes for good ground tracking. When used on pasture the grass is flattened by the weight of the belt keeping the coil as close to the ground as possible, but the grass stands up again once the sled has passed over it.
Reg,
I guess I was also interested in the 'angle' the coil was fitted on the sled. I mean we see coils like a clock so to speak with 12 o'clock being the top. I was always told to not push a coil but to swing it. That would mean you want to have a 3-9 o'clock motion for the electronics to be optimal on a round coil. This would only happen if one is standing still.
Sledding would allow for a target to come in a 3 o'clock or 2 o'clock or anywhere o'clock. Does it make any difference to the detector?
Some coils are said to be tip sensitive if elliptical so I would think that type of coil should not be used for a sled. You want an even field with just audio (headphones or speakers) sensors or would a digital strength screen help to identify a target outside of the noise of the tow vehicle.
Maybe I'm just making it too complicated.
You put a round coil on a sled and when it goes over metal it sounds off and you mark the target, right? Then you go back and see if it is a good target or not so good.
I know the meteorite men used a very large sled to find giant meteorites in a Kansas field.

What is the optimal orientation of the coil when dragging?

This survey didn't require any additional personal information about me. I think the information they are asking me and others about is a good thing. I've spent many thousands on their products and if they want my opinion about how I can use them better I'll give it to them.
-
Well, some people have said they never hear anything from Minelab. I was sure I wasn't the only one getting this survey.
Perhaps those that don't get it are afraid of giving out information and don't sign up for newsletters.

Sorry about all of the posts but I was running into a copy and paste problem!
Maybe I could have just posted this:
