  1. I don't know what else it could be really.I mean it definitely is not slag it's not highly magnetic just enough to push or pull a magnet from astring. It appears to be melted and I know where at places you can find it inside of a 50foot tall cliff deposited in a long continious flat section where no road has or ever will be or smelting melting already looked at historical maps and such.
  2. Oh and as far as this being a souvenir,,it definitely not I know this to be a fact for the simple reason I know where I found it as well as where a lot more of it is.very strange thing I've stumbled upon in the middle of acres upon acres of uncut foreatfor generations upon generations.
  3. I appreciate your comments everyone but unfortunately I'm unsure if anyone could possibly identify this "rock" on this forum by a mere picture.I suppose the question I most need answered is how do I tell with 100% certainty if this is a meteor or impact glass?Would it invole takiing it somewhere. If so is there some place close to say an hours drive South from the capital city of Montgomery.
  4. Also about my other post I am in the process of correctly making a "window" on a small portion for further observation.
  5. Ok well where I found this there was and never has been any steel melting or smelting plant or any other building whatsoever it was found deep in the "Thank The Lord" unpopulated, unincorporated southern woods of Alabama that my family are blessed enough to call a 160 acre tract our own.Peace and quiet the way life was intended. This rock is magnetic as last night I hung two small semi-strong doughnut magnets from a string perfectly still.Oddly enough not only did this "rock" attract the magnet it also seemed to repulse the magnet if it was moved to a different spot facing it.strange.any thoughts? Also I believe Alabama has had it's share of meteorite impacts over history as we have had automobile tags with the STARS FELL ON ALABAMA theme.
  6. Is this possibly a meteorite? It's very hard and appears to have been extemely hot at some point also its magnetic.Im super new at this so please bare with me on my learning curve. Thanks for any help.
  7. i dont understand what you are trying to say.i truly think its highly possible this in fa t could be a meteorite.anyone
  8. Im very new to hunting meterites and have basically just started.Ive found some magnetic strange looking smaller rocks digging down in a creekbed on our land as well as some rock with what appears to be gold. However upon digging a trench to attempt to locate a lost water line on my grandparents old homeplace i inherited i came across a rather strange larger rock. For its size its rather heavy ,its about id say a pound and a half maybe a grunt more.I havent hung a super magnet but it does feel somewhat magnetic in spots. It appears to possibly have a fusion crust that is almost gone on the rounded corners. It seems heavier than normal an i very hard.If better pics are needed please tell me thanks for any help .
