  1. ALQ:

Regrettably, due to too many prior commitments I have not had the opportunity to use my SL as  much as I had hoped.  I am still in the testing and self-training phase.  However,  so far I LOVE the machine.  It does everything I need it to do for my level of expertise, time available, and areas available to hunt.  I bought it primarily for gold hunting, but do occasionally also hunt for coins and relics.   So far I am very satisfied with my purchase.  I use it in conjunction with the Goldmaster 24k, so that I have "all bases covered" for varying search environments.

  2. Carl:  Thanks for the details and link.  Greatly appreciated.  Thanks too for the offer.  Unfortunately I don't get up into the Republic area very often, but then again maybe this is a great excuse to venture up that way and "meet and greet". 🙂

  3. I have been rereading this thread and have a question about the coarse and fine adjustment system.  In regards to the TDI SL, in place of using a vernier to adjust the ground balance, is it technically and mechanically feasible to add a 10K pot in series as the TDI Pro uses?  Just curious.  Thanks.

  4. My condolences to the family.

Thanks for sharing.  I received the Sweet Home Newspaper today and it only had a death notice.  So I appreciate learning more of the history.  I had the pleasure of knowing both Kenneth and Kenny and they were both wonderful people.  They will truly be missed and as said above, a sad day and the end of an era.

I agree with Joe.  I am very pleased to have my 24K and also the TDI SL.  I am also blessed to have in my collection one of their 1960's classic tube-type BFO metal detectors in working condition.  For me it is a true keeper.

    Joe, congratulations on your sign.

  5. Another option for decal image preservation and reproduction is to find someone with a good color scanner and scan the decal (along with some type of scale for reference).  This will produce a nice digital copy without possible parallax issues or tilt issues from a camera.  If a scanner is  not available, the camera idea would work well if a tripod was used to stabilize the cameral and allow for the camera to be set parallel to the object.

Yet an additional option is to find a local custom decal maker and ask if they could reproduce the decal or if they have any suggestions for removal.  Unfortunately a one-off decal may be expensive.

Just a little food for thought.  Best wishes for success on your project.

  6. Geotech:

Although I do not have an XLT, I just wanted to say thank you for your input and sharing your knowledge on these instruments.  I am certain that there will be others in the future that will appreciate access to these little tidbits of info and insight.  I appreciate your contribution.  Thank you.

  7. Gerry:

Thanks for starting a wonderful and very educational thread.  I am still on the bottom end of the learning curve in regards to this type of gold hunting.  There are a few tailings areas in northern and central Idaho I would like to test this coming summer.  I will be using my White's Goldmaster 24k and am curious what coil(s) you would recommend?  Any suggestions on instrument settings would also be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help.
