My 2-cents worth:  I love my TRX.  Just wish they were still available for others to use.

Hard Prospector:  Thank you for your insight.  I have a TDI SL and am still learning the details of this machine.

Is the battery drain issue and lack of power issue of larger coils also applicable to the TDI Pro and also the TDI SL?

Lunk:  congratulations on your success and perseverance, and thank you for sharing a picture of your results.  It is an inspiration to all of us.  I do hope to some day try my hand at the Arizona desert detecting and it is nice to know that there is still some hope.

Although not applicable for the 7000, for those with different detectors a padded saxophone case may be an option.  It has a long side pocket for additional items.  Just food for thought.

As I continue my research into bucket dredge tailings areas I am trying to find maps showing at least the general locations of these tailings as they occur in various states.  After many hours of internet research I have found environmental reports, state park reports, and scientific studies on individual sites.  I have also found an old report for the state of Oregon with a page size map.  However I have not yet found a comprehensive map of at least the general location of all dredge tailings for any of the individual western states (other than Oregon).  Nor have I found a comprehensive map of all of the dredge tailings in the western U.S.  Do such maps (or books for that matter) exist for either the states or the western U.S.?  Just curious if I had missed something (maybe even the obvious) or if I was blessed with the opportunity to create such a document from scratch?  Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

I have some questions about dredge tailings such as are found in California, Idaho, eastern Oregon and other places in the western US.  This spring I would like to add dredge tailings to my selection of areas to  hunt for gold and I am in need of some advice.  As I understand the environment, one might find either nuggets or specie gold, and that the approach for finding each one is different.  Is this a correct evaluation?   When looking for specie gold in dredge tailings, where does one start:  along a road, at the base of the piles, near the top, on the side, either near or away from vegetated areas, near the pond or away from the pond, or ?  Are there specific characteristics one should note?  How does the hunt for nuggets in this environment differ from the specie search?  It appears that a large loop on a VLF would be better for specie gold and a small loop (VLF) would be better for nuggets, correct?  I realize that there may be some "trade secrets" that you prefer not to share but any general help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
