  1. I was reading an Aussie forum and was shocked to read the following, hits home pretty hard.

Anyone have any ideas how to protect your gear when out swinging?

I haven't posted for quite some time but have been reading some very interesting posts so I thought I would share an ugly one. I had hoped to share some good news along with some pics of the finds I should have by now but I got bit by the nasty thief bug!! I finally had everything I needed to retire to the gold fields of the western U.S. and start beeping to my hearts content but I made the poor choice of taking all my cash with me. On the second day out I was out in the middle of nowhere Nevada and had hauled my detectors, coils and my Honda CT90 out to a spot my Dad had told me about to do mostly scout work and a little beeping and at the end of a long day I got back to my camp trailer to find my lock cut off and my door pried open. Crying or Very sad  Some thieves had got in and found my money and stole some of my electronics and it was obvious by the tracks that they were on ATV's. The thieves got away with $5500, my little tv, a 4000 watt inverter and my satellite system.  I had almost bought a small safe to lag bolt to the floor under my bed but I didn't (I'll have one next time!!). So I learned a big lesson, don't trust a padlocked and dead bolted door to keep your valuables safe!! The good news was that I had my Minelab and all my coils and my Gold Bug 2 and coils plus my 3 guns with me and enough cash on me to make it back home to Idaho.   I am now working to get my finances back enough so I can retire to a life of chasing the elusive nugget again and I am hoping by the end of May that I will restart my dream.
  2. You are right Klunker, after a day of finding nothing I frequently threaten my detector by not charging it for not finding gold. However, I must be careful as this has back fired several times on me and a flat machine will definitely not find gold!

  3. Is it better to get the big nuggets out of the way first or should one start with the small ones and then concentrate on the bigger ones? Wouldn`t it be nice to have this problem!  My own thoughts are the following.

After locating patch with the GPX and a mid size coil I would chain from several directions, when no more signals were evident break out the SDC 2300 and chain and flog again.

Last step get out the 18 or 20in coils and listen for the deep lurkers/lunkers.

Do you think removing the small gold will enable one to hear the deeper gold better?

A ZED may be able to do all in one sweep.

    Your thoughts and experiences appreciated.

  4. Today I sold a Whites TDI pro to a customer, we set it up and turned it on with the stock coil and did a few air tests.

He heard that Minelab coils would work and other PI series coils. I suggested we try some Detech coils with the following results. The new 14in Mono Spiral wound ran quieter and air tested a little deeper on coins than the stock dual field.

The little 6in Detech mono was a surprise as it hard and loud on targets for its size.

When the weather gets better we are going to try a variety of the Detech coils and see which are worth having for the TDI, outdoors with more realistic buried targets. I`ll post what we find out.

Kellyco is not the distributor for the Detech SD, GP,GPX Minelab machines,  I am and you can see the many coils that Detech provides at  www.creekmetaldetectorsales.com.

All coils are waterproof and carry a two year warranty.

Coils are available through the following western dealers with FREE shipping.

Chris Porter NV,  Miners Cache CA, The Gold Lady AZ,  NW Detector Sales OR.

    or by contacting me directly.

Detech seems to be putting the most effort into the development of these new coils and some exciting new designs and sizes will soon be available.

    Thanks for your interest!

  6. A nice nugget from Down Under, almost looks like the nugget pictured on the coil. These new DD are proving their worth.

This special 36 grammer found in a trashy area using the new 15 Ultimate Spiral DD

this new coil is getting some great results

  7. The one that got away? Did the signal just disappear or did it break up into static? I have found that some intelligent nuggets will send out a jamming force field signal. If you hear Jimmy Hendrix or Janis Joplin turn the Zed off and get out of there as you have detected a time warp and are now detecting in Woodstock.

Still the dumber ones you captured are great!
