Anyone remember these? Were they helpful?

The outback prospector DVDs Jonathan Porter

Yes I have all those & yes they were helpful. I also have Chris Gholson's Nugget Hunting Essentials series of DVD's. Worth there weight in gold. The pair of them helped each other out in starting these.

  2. The moral of the story for you younger folk is to look after your feet, keep them covered when out detecting. Prevention is better than cure. Nothing quite like dry desert dust to suck moisture from your feet. I am in my 60's & have always kept my feet covered when out detecting & have no signs of cracking. A way would pick with uncovered feet has its own risks too, not to mention dislodged rolling rocks.

I have never had an issue with the coils themselves other than early stages or the manufacturer only the misinformation and the resultant discord when I tried to put balance to the discussions. The risks are still real, do the adapter wrong and it gets expensive, However I never had a problem with any of my adapters.

Hello Jonathan, This is very interesting as I got the impression that you were dead set against the X coils. What misinformation, discussions & discord are you speaking of. Can you elaborate on the misinformation please & who & where did it come from?

I guess there is always going to be a risk factor involved if one attempts to do the adapter themselves if doing that kind of work isn't their forte. I am picking there are quite a few very fine wires to deal with & not much room to play with in the soldering process. What generally happens to the detector if things go wrong & what would the cost of repair be to an already expensive detector.

I recall a comment that I thought was from you, or maybe it was from somebody else, that said your adapters were made for you by Minelab. Guess you cant get a safer adapter made than from them.

Nice gold finds too by the way.

If NF make a cazzzilion 12” coils then we’ll know the answer to that question I guess.?

And if they make a 10" &/or an 8" for the GPZ you would be in boots & all too. Right, who wouldn't be?

I guess this is all getting off topic & time will tell when the 6000 has been waved about for a bit. But knowing Minelab it will be a winner & have an edge in certain situations. All their detectors do.

No, this happens to me with every detector and coil.   The size of the gold may change but the basic principal is the same.   I've even had Gold Monster targets disappear. ? I ended up finding them after a lot of messing around so they did exist.

I think what Gold Catcher was meaning was if in the scenario of what I spoke of above using the 14" ML coil on the GPZ, would a smaller coil of what you on the use GPZ still have got that piece of tiny gold that I used the GM to find in the end. Of courser we will never know that without a side by side on site at the time comparison.

Minelab have created the situation were people are disgruntled, offering a smaller coil concept at release and not following through after 6 years was a big mistake and insulting to buyers.

That was a real slap in the face & I wonder how many people actually forked out the big money & bought a GPZ on that statement from Minelab.

The expectation is what keeps us going out, the hopes there is still gold present. Over the years ML have had the uncanny ability to keep on generating products that open up more opportunities. At the moment thats all you have to go on, Minelab’s track record.

And their track record speaks for itself. No doubt about it. If only they could make the gold grow bigger & not smaller. ?

I am just generally amazed what small stuff the GPZ can find despite the 14 in coil that the GM has a hard time detecting with the tiny 5 in.  I am a "dig it all" guy so I have recovered microscopic trash and gold with the GPZ, so small that I can barely see it in the scoop. Hence, I would give the GPZ a 5 star for small and large gold, but make it dependent on the user's willingness to go for small stuff with the GPZ as well.

I have on many occasions got a very faint signal with my GPZ, I too am a dig it all guy, & when I have disturbed the ground matrix & the target it has disappeared. I knew what I heard but it was gone. No amount of fluffing about with the GPZ brought it back. Break out the Gold Monster & I have found it. Tiny bit of gold. My GPZ & GM go hand in hand.

I would be very surprised if it beats my GPZ with small coil on small gold but if it does that's great! ?

I did read somewhere that Minelab stated that the GPZ was still their flagship detector. To me that meant that the GPX 6000 wasn't going to be as good as the GPZ 7000.

The 'small' coil for the GPZ is 14" the small coil for the GPX 6000 is 11". Have I missed something here?
