Just a follow-up for those interested. I was able to make it down to the event and had a good time. There were 100 tokens from this year buried on the property, each of which entered the holder/finder into a raffle for a prize. I was able to located a token and claimed a prize bag, inside was a minelab ball cap, minelab carry big, minelab bumper-sticker, minelab brochures/literature, rye- patch. nuggett shoot 2015 carry bag, whites treasure and trash finds bag with zipper, whites light weight finds pouch/apron, whites mini swiss knife, garrett digging tool with sheath, plastic scoop, kellyco brochure of metal detectors with current price list, kellyco coupons, copy of western and eastern treasures magazine , spf 30 sun block stick,lip balm/chap-stick, bottle opener key chain, aluminum can beverage insulators (4-pack, kellco finds/trash bag. All of this inside yet another kellco light weight back-pack style bag.

As well as these contents(as not all contained just these items) other prize bags included silver rounds,as well as other goodies.

Also given away were twelve metal detectors, pin-pointer, high-lift jack, and more prizes of which i didnt see.

Finding a token wasnt the only to win(which is cool) as the second chance drawing gave those without detectors a chance at winning.

I really liked the fact they had a kid hunt area and prizes for them as well, in fact I think i saw at least six beaming faces from winning themselves detectors. All in all a great event! Thank you to the event sponsors.

My special thanks to Scott & Jan for being great hosts/people and showing me around and introducing me to other good people, I very much enjoyed it. I look forward to year 4.

Steve, am i correct in understanding both sdc and f3 utilize the mps tech? After looking thru service manual for my f3 i think this is something i might attempt with it. It does appear to have regular screww type coil connector inside handle. I only have an 11" mono &18" mono of my own to test but access also a 12*15 commander.

dont suppose you can point me to some tech info on coils(principals, test procedure for measuring values,etc.) so i could attempt to test these first before i just start slappin sh** together?

Btw, have you finished your custom atx yet?

Thanks Steve. How robust are the infiniums? My draw towards the recon is the waterproofing as well as its robust build, it would probably be used mainly in-creek/river, perhaps for scanning exposed shears as well.

Thinking of purchasing one of these as harsh enviorment tool.

Looking to spend under 550.00.

Its getting to b the time of year where any detector i take out is gonna get wet and i dont want to take the chance with non-wp detector.

Anyone use the recon before personally? Advise?

The machine just seemed noisy and inconsistent during multiple swings over target and harder to adjust, no ground tracking was in use.

I also had left my cell phone in my pocket on my detector side, could it cause interference?

Btw, how far could a lode type specimen like that travel without showing evidence of transport to its placer location? Just curious.

Calihunter4au, Conratulations on the new detector finds. Thats awesome that your son found his too, how sweet is that? I also think thats cool that he will be your hunting buddy now, likely many hours of quality time can be shared now, something i would have liked to have done with my father.

My nokta fors gold lost display info,and is showing only system info, (p.p.toggle switch is sticky)so I was out detecting yesterday with my well used (dare i say slightly abused) gmt. I think it was a bad day for solar radiation/geo-magnetic yesterday, but it got me to wondering how do i test for this (need of cal.)at home?

I would assume the test patch is handy for testing the consitency of readings and sensitivity, but short of another machine of same model how do you guys determine if it needs it, and what does it cost?

Sounds like a great event. Does one have to reserve a camping spot? I would probably just pop-a-tent for a one day event, is there ample room for this? I am considering this trip. I would like the chance to meet some forum members as you all seem like good people, as well as try some of that southern ground.

I was curious to know if you long-time detectorists noticed any performance differences dependent on weather conditions.

I have noticed that my detecting just seems a bit smoother on those days when it is over-cast.

Is this just my imagination?

I just have a tough time understanding why cutting down pine trees( into unusable lumber) to make better habitat for a shallow rooted, weed of a tree, that probably wont survive a couple drought-years anyway.

State spent 500k on it, not sure of extext of pine harvested, but isnt very large of an area.

It was my hypothosis that these coniferous trees would interfere because they retain thier leaves, thereby interfering with the em signature of aerial based survey.

Perhaps they did it just because they are just pretty during the fall.

The state of wy is doing a pine tree clear-cut over top of a potential gold rich zone north of the old miners delight mine, doing so in the name of better habitat for the quakies.

This seems a little wierd to me, so i ask if anyone knows if removal of decidous? trees would greatly increase effectivness of such a survey?
