  1. Thanks Randy and interesting stuff. Setting the balance in different modes isn't a problem and I do re-check but I've never tried it at zero. I'm also in the UK and will take note of that. The ground I'm on is not very productive but the hammered I've had have been good clear signals. I'll have another wonder over the more productive area with GB at 0 to see if I've missed anything. Although on other targets (not hammered) I've found a few extra swings often develops the iron component of the signal. At the end of the day if it's a half decent signal it's coming out of the ground but thanks for the help - every day's a school day. Chris
  2. Thanks Chase, and I have to agree 🙂 I did some checks yesterday on a pasture field. IB = 0 I hit a couple of targets that gave solid 14-15's in both directions. Lifting the coil gave -ve 1-3. Both targets were degraded shotgun carts. When I popped the plug out I checked the hole and no signals at all. Checked the now upside down plug and got the same signals left right and up/down. Another target with a solid 16 gave no -ve's and turned out to be a victorian halfpenny. It suggests the -ve's and iron burps are due to the target and that seems to be all of my experience so far. Does it matter - not really as all of those targets are still coming out of the ground. What really happens, especially on a quiet field is "good two way signal - hooray!". Lift the coil and get a burp and it's a wave of disappointment as I know what's coming 😩 It was more just the curiosity of what is really going on. But as you say "life's too short........" Chris
  3. I use both tracking and non-tracking but hope to get out this afternoon and will double check both if I get a similar signal. What makes you ask?
  4. Thanks FloridaSon, I have tried that and don't get the problem and there are lots of situations where I have good non-ferrous targets and there's no iron burp when I lift the coil. It just seems to happen with some buttons and particularly mixed metal targets like shotgun carts (most noticeable on the older paper/card ones). I had seen the same effect on my T2. Also, when I check the hole after removing the plug (target in the plug) there's no target or iron signal which is essentially the same as you've done when you checked it out. I'm really just trying to understand why I can have a target giving a good non-ferrous signal left to right but with the addition of an iron tone up and down. Somehow the iron tone isn't showing left to right. Thanks for taking the time to check things for me. Chris
  5. Iron bias 0 or 1 and always ground balanced.
  6. If this has been covered before please just point me to the thread but I couldn't find it with a forum search. Nox 600, Field 1, All metal, 5 tones, searching in the Uk I'm trying t understand what actually happens with a particular signal. I'll hit a strong non-ferrous target that gives solid tones left/right and again at 90 degrees. However, just as I lift the coil to put the machine down I'll get an iron burp. If I move the coil up and down the burp is repeated but left to right doesn't register. Dig the target and it's invariably a button with shank or a shotgun cartridge or rotted out primer central area. I always re-check the hole but the iron signal on lifting the coil has gone. There may have been some iron in the same location which has now been disturbed but what I don't understand is why the iron signal only occurs when the coil is moved up and down and not side to side. Any thoughts please? Thanks for the help, Chris
