I’m hoping they won’t start charging for future updates, particularly if periodically. My heart skipped a beat when I saw they were emphasizing that this was free. Of course it is, I thought, they’ve always been and for every manufacturer and undateable platform…unless…it won’t always be the case. I would hate to have to pay more than I already have, $1600 plus accessories, for what I anticipated from purchase would be an evolutionary platform. I think if they started charging for future updates I’d say goodbye to the platform.

Id be willing to pay if we got quality updates more frequently.

  3. I was just about to pack it in tonight and was making a pass through my ring honey hole for the 2nd or 3rd time and this beauty popped up. A LOUD solid 62 on the deus 2. It was 2 or 3 inches down but sounded like a nickel right on the surface. This is the highest ive had gold ring up on the d2 so far. 14k with 10 little tiny diamonds.

If i can't find the owner it will make a nice christmas present for my mom who tolerates all of my non stop babble about this hobby! i think this is my 6th or 7th gold ring since february.

Inside is stamped "cas" if anyone knows what maker that is...

  4. Okay guys, not sure who else has done this but i wanted to share my story of how i used my noggin to take one deus 2 and turn it into 2 machines for super cheap.

Okay, so i purchased my d2 for a great price thanks to rob with robs detectors ($1100 for a machine that was used one). Since i got the one w the 9" coil i also purchased the 11x13 coil ($311). I then purchased bone conduction headphones from a member here ($50) and purchased an audio adapter that allows you to plug headphones into the puck ($12). Now a second shaft ($100-$200) depending on maker.

Attach ws6 puck adapter to ws6 puck, plug any 3mm headphones into headphone jack on adapter. Pair ws6 to 9" coil. This is setup  #1.

Attach bone conductor headphones to large d2 controller. Put controller on new shaft. Pair main controller to 11x13 coil. This is setup #2.

Tested this out and the two machines work independent of one another. So... for a total of a little under $500 you can run 2 machines. A second high end machine for under $500, yes please. This is really cool if youre like me and had already purchased the 11x13, carbon fiber shaft, and bone conduction headphones for personal use. In my case i made ZERO INVESTMENT for this second machine but now can invite a friend to join me.

This setup is also great if you are trying to extend out battery life if you forgot to charge up or dont have a battery charger as a backup. Anyone else try this setup to invite a friend yet?  I dub this setup the manticore killer since you'll never get this kind of flexibility out of the Manticore.

Did you ever put the 12X15 Equinox coil in the water???  Yup, quite a treat.

The stock rod for the Deus2 is inadequate for any water hunting in my opinion.

I replaced my stock rod with a custom CF rod.  I was not wild of water hunting with a 9" coil. My past opinion was that a coil that size was too small on a salt beach.

After the last three months of working the Deus 9"  , I have no plans of changing to a larger coil to hunt in the water.

If I had a choice, it would be for a 10" coil for in the water.

I was thinking it was a combo of rad type and coil size. Thank you.

  6. Took my d2 into 2-3 ft of waster today and discovered the first negative thing about the d2.  I'm running the 13x11 coil and the amount of drag caused swinging the coil was insane.  I think part of this was related to the flex in the lower shaft and the size of the coil but it really was tough. At times i felt like the lower shaft might snap if i tried to move too fast.

Anyone have any advice? Will the 9 inch coil solve this problem or do i need to invest in a different shaft?

  7. Ok ok... i cant resist.

The depth of the two machines is similar. Beyond that, i dont think there's a category where the equinox is equal to the d2. The d2 is WAY lighter, like not even in the same ballpark. It is more ergonomic. It is way better at the beach. It is more customizable, w lots of advanced settings. The waterproofing actually works w the d2. The d2 goes way way way deeper underwater. The d2 has far superior separation, even w a 9 inch coil being the smallest coil. The d2 is sturdy, ive seen a handful of equinox machines where the console is literally falling apart and taped together. The customer service from xp is superior. The ids on coins are pretty dang spot on every time and when paired with customizable audio, you can really avoid digging junk like zinc pennies.

That's all I've got for now.

  8. Well... the streak continues. Took a break mid-day and went to a beach where i pulled 150 coins in a day a month ago. This time tried about a mile south of my original location though.

I found a football field size area with more quarters, dimes, and nickels than i could dig, and virtually no pennies! I stuck in the area for around three hours hoping for gold but only managed two rings. One was silver though! Also found about 5 fishing sinkers, which I'll use. I left the place looking like a war zone even though a bury my holes.

Went back to work for 4 more hours, then took off to another beach at 8:30 pm. Did a few passes and found about another dollar in clad... then a 1936 buffalo nickel, then a 1923 buffalo, then a 1953 quarter, then a 1945 10 centavos mexican coin. Photo below shows the old coins and the two rings. Quarter and mexican coin went into my electrolysis unit, they were both BLACK and caked in sand. The D2 is a beach vaccuum!

Great ring week! A junk ring still gives some satisfaction to an otherwise bad hunt.

Yesterday morning I found 29 cents in clad BUT....two .925 earrings with one of them having gold plating and bling diamonds.

Made me feel better about the hunt and spending $10.50 to park!

Luckily our beaches have free parking!

Nice finds! Looks like the 13x11 is working out really well for you. Do you have much competition where you hunt?

Also would like to know where on the beach you are finding rings, in the water or what?

I'm headed South to a beach this week, I'm bringing the D2 with the 13x11, the 9", and my trusty old Equinox with the 10x5 and 15" elliptical. I've been watching the beach cameras and don't see many/any detecting there, and already have a good idea where the most people congregate.

You're really doing a great job with that detector and coil. 🙂

There's one guy who hunts this beach every morning at daylight and he finds a ton of jewelry. Then a second guy who lives a block away from the beach who told me last year he found 115 rings atvthis beach so i think so, given the small size of the beach. In the past few months ive seen maybe 10 different detectorists there.

I havent detected in the water yet. 4 are from thre dry sand and the gold ring was right at the water line in the wet sand but not underwater.

  11. There's one beach i go to where iron falsing happens ever foot or so. I resorted to notching out 82-88. I know im missing some good targets but it kills my ears otherwise and is too many targets to dig. I haven't found anything to fix it. Id say that at this point i can generally trll when its iron vs a legit target but im sure i miss some legit targets too.

I too noticed that it is worse w the 9" which i think is related to the falsing occurring as you hit the outside edge of the iron.

If it wasnt bad id suffer through it but that one beach will drive me nuts!

  12. After finding a girl's diamond ring for her on monday, i was was rewarded over my last 2 hunts with 5 more rings, one 14k gold pendant, a 1952 dime, and a 1954 quarter. 4 of the rings were junkers but one was a 10k gold ring w synthetic ruby. The ruby has a roman warrior's head etched into it.

All beach finds. The gold ring doesnt feel like a fresh drop but the others all do. Coins were in great shape amazingly! I probably found another ten bucks in quarters also which covrrs my gas to get there!

I'm always amazed at how many rings are lost at the beach! All found w the deus 2 w the 11x13 coil. Last week i pulled quarters from a foot deep at the beach with it... it is just amazing in the salt!

  13. Hopped out to the beach after work since the weather was immaculate today. Tide was mid range which is meh but I'm getting too fat and needed to get a good walk in.

After about 5 minutes i see a very pretty girl walking toward me with intent! Not that "I'm curious about metal detecting walk" and I've yet to get picked up on while detecting so it could only be one thing... she lost her diamond ring!

About 100 feet from where I was she had been sitting with her mom and dad and flung her hand to the side... watching as her ring flew off. After frantically searching for a bit, her knight in dorky armor arrived. I was able to nab the ring in about 30 seconds and she was visibly relieved! She tried to pay me, which i absolutely refused but asked her if we could snap a photo so i could share it with my online friends 🤓

I'm doing fine financially and wouldnt ever sell a ring i found so it was way more rewarding making her doomsday into a good story for us both. Photo shared with her permission.
