Well, it appears the rumours of price increases for Minelab products are true.

This from Lost Treasures in Australia, a dealer I trust and have bought from before.

"Just to let everyone know that Minelab will have a price increase for all of their detectors and pin pointers coming in to effect on the 1/1/24. So there is no better time than the present to grab a machine before everything goes up next year."

    These are obviously Australian dollars.

I'm not quite sure why there are two GPZ's on the list but I assume one comes with the 19" coil.  It's impossible to put up the price of the Pro-Find 35 😛

I see this list and realize how much money I've burnt when I add up all my detectors 🤣

They should be offering rebates for the stuff they have been peddling lately.

    @JCR

Getting the edge falsing on all passes until I rotate and shrink the sweep until it's a tight and tiny wiggle.  Actually tickling the target.  It's doable but time consuming.

Another thing to add, small nails can sound sweet from a couple different angles. In t 2 tone they will not sound round or smooth. One more thing I read, haven't tried, only because I keep forgetting  is if you go into ground balance mode and sweep they say uo can hear the iron coming off the target. Good luck. Mark

I prefer the 6" to the 11" coil in the trash, but it falses on the edge of the coil considerably more than the 11".

I'm getting used to it but it's taking a lot longer to verify signals.  I'm already going slower because of the coil size.

Anyone come up with settings/adjustments to decrease the coil edge falsing?

Dave, pretty much a 6in. coil user with the equinox 800 &900 most of the time. Let me say I tried the 10x5 for about 6 mo. I decided I preferred the 6in. Not so much falsing on the edge of the coil as falsing off the tip of a rusty bolt or nail. Ever notice, pop the plug, the pinpointer say staight down. you think this is good, but as you dig the signal starts pulling to the side wall of the plug. This is that. So the 900 seems to do iron wrap more than the 800. When I suspect iron wrap or iron falsing  I'll pinpoint to see if the signal pinpoints under the sweet spot of the coil. If it doesn't it s junk, a good target won't move. Also pinpoint can give you an idea of target size. Next what I like to do is go into 2 tone. You would be surprised how descriptive 2 tone can be on a target that sounds sweet in 5 tone. Scratchy, elongated tones are definitely not a coin sized non-ferrous target. Throw a coin on the ground, sweep in 2 tone. Throw a rusty nail down and sweep that, you'll see what I'm talking about. Not foolproof but it will help a bit. Good luck. Mark

It's discontinued. I sold that pair of Avantrees when I sold an Equinox 800 last spring. I used them with my Legend some too. Sorry I gave you wrong information.

Personally, I think the Nokta Legend headphones are fantastic. They pair easily, have outstanding audio for my hearing and are the best noise cancelling stock metal detector headphones that I have used. Whether they will hold up, so far after nearly 20 months on one pair, yes.  The only times that I don't use them are when it's too hot or when I need to hear my surroundings (as in threats from wildlife). I use Aukey EP-B80 BT earbuds for those times. These headphones seal out ambient sound so well that I have difficulty hearing the pinpointers that I use! The Avantree Audition Pros are excellent headphones too. Their noise cancelling is not as good as the stock Nokta Legend headphones. I have had issues with the headband deteriorating pretty fast on the three different Avantree models I've owned.

Jeff thank you for your input. Will give the factory ones a try. Good luck and a mild winter to you. Mark

My BAD. I forgot that I had an earlier version of the Avantrees. It looks almost just like the Audition Pros. It pairs just fine. The Audition Pro set will not. My apologies.

Jeff thank you thats good info. Can you tell me what model does pair with the Legend ? Appreciate it. Mark

  6. 7 hours ago, Chase Goldman said:

That may be the problem.  If you can't reset them per the Avantree instructions, there may be a corruption issue with the Audition pro firmware.  This may manifest as a problem pairing with some devices while having no issue pairing with others.  Be patient and wait well beyond the 5 to 7 seconds.  Also, the "pink flash twice" signal that they have reset may be very brief or hard to see.  Good luck.

Chase that does sound plausible. At last attempt after turning them on they immediately went into pairing mode. Guess I'll have to break down and buy Nokta headphones. I won't use the ML80s, absolutely hate them. Thanks. Mark

So you held down the + and - buttons on the headphones for about 8 seconds until the light turned pink to reset them?

After that they go into pairing mode but other stuff in the close proximity can cause problems with pairing especially wireless routers and other Bluetooth devices.  It's best to do it away from other stuff when you're having problems, also hold the headphones right up close to the Legend when pairing, the strongest signal gets the most attention.

Also, if you read the latest Legend firmware update they've improved compatibility with devices, this means they've improved their Bluetooth support, if you're not running that latest firmware it may well be your solution.

This update allows for easy switching of the Bluetooth headphones connection between AccuPOINT and The Legend, and better compatibility with your devices.

phrunt my bad. I am somewhat hardheaded and did not get what you were saying at first as to resetting the headphones. I tried several times but was not able to get them to reset. Again thanks. Mark

This was an issue that threw me initally.

We have so many bluetooth devices in the house competing for the signal, I had to take the machine and headphones out to the furtherst point in the backyard to pair successfully. Granted this is also after I'd paired the headphones with a couple other devices, including my partner's work laptop -- the Nokta headphones are her preferred choice!.

No issues pairing the headphones going forward, and I've also been successful with two verisons of TOZO earbuds. I do perceive a slight signal lag/delay issue with the earbuds, however, including the gaming/low latency TOZO G1 version. Not present in the Notka headphones, though.

gg thanks for the reply. Just tried killing the signal on the phone. Still a no go. Then I tried the ML80s and they paired right up. And then with them on I did a device erase to insure that function was working. It is. I thought of doing the update that phrunt had mentioned but after some reading I'm pretty sure its for better connectivity with other Nokta devices. Also as I had mentioned I had no problem pairing to Tayago bone conductors.  Mark

I am the same as Jeff I have had no issues pairing my Avantree's to either of my Legends, the only time I have had issues is if the Bluetooth is active in my Cell then the Avantree's will end up pairing with my cell phone so I always turn the Bluetooth off in my Cell and then pair the Avantree's to the Legend, once they pair up with either of my Legends the next time it is almost immediate when they pair the next time, but I still turn the Bluetooth off in my Cell

I would suggest to do a factory rest of the Bluetooth in the Legend and try to pair your Legend again with the Avantree's

DSMITH thank you I will give it a try. Mark

I have been able to pair Avantree and Aukey compatible BT wireless headphones and earbuds with my Legend with no issues using software versions 1.09 and 1.11. I do have to make sure that they are not first pairing to my phone when I am trying to pair them to my Legend and that I have cleared out the previous pairing memory in the Legend by holding down the pinpoint button until seeing FP while the Bluetooth settings icon is highlighted, setting the BT setting to 0 after the reset and then back to 1 before leaving the BT setting.

I think you noted that you had covered those pairing steps in your post. Just making sure.

Jeff thanks for the input. I did do it as per the manual, repeated the steps several times along with several factory resets. And the Bluetooth signal from my phone  is a good idea. Will shut it down and give it a try. But the question remains why does the ML80s and earbuds pair and not the Avantrees ? Particularly when everything else pairs interchangeably. Thanks. Mark

phrunt thank for the reply. On my headphones I need to hold the power button down for 5 seconds or so until the red and blue lights begin to flash, which I did.At that point, Like I stated it would pair up immediately with my Bluetooth transmitter on the 900and after 30 seconds or so on the 800. As far as proximity to other Bluetooth devices, maybe but keep in mind all pairing was done in the same area and the ML80s and Conius earbuds paired to the Legend with no problem. I did do another factory reset, took them out on the back porch and tries again. Still, no go. I may try the update and see if that helps. Mark

  12. So I guess I'm looking for ideas or advice. When I bought a Legend I opted for the no headphone option as I had several Bluetooth devices, headphones, earbuds, and bone conductors. I originally had paired the bone conductors to the Legend. Unfortunately I lost them. So I decided to pair my headphones, Avantrees Auditions Pro model. I had bought  back in 2019 to replace the ML 80s on the Equinox 800. I could not get them to pair with the Legend. They will pair right up with  the 800 and to the transmitter on the 900. As per the manual I erased the old pairing to no avail. I did a factory reset, still nothing. So I tried my old ML80s (which I hate ) and they paired right up. So did the ear buds which were bought before the Avantrees. The Equinox which I believe is 4.2 and my transmitter is 5.0 why can't the Legend pair to them ? I really like my Avantrees, lightweight, comfortable and the audio is damn fine. Two major selling points over the Manticore was the third party headphone option and the mineralization meter. I'm going to be pretty upset if I can't use my favorite headphones. In hot weather I'll suffer through with earbuds but I really prefer the headphones. Any thoughts ? TIA Mark

I don't care what they call the wireless module as long as they offer one. They did offer multiple coils on the Vanquish 540 Pro Pack with the V8 and the V12. Having used Minelab for over 30 years, I know they probably wouldn't offer what I want, but I'm sure a lot of people, like myself, are holding off buying the Xterra Pro because of the lack of coil, or headphone, selection. I think  we're still allowed to hope, can't we?

Tex good evening. I trust you saw the post on the WM09 module. However I don't think the module will be capable of pairing to a set of wireless buds or headphones. Hope I'm wrong. But if not mistaken it will only give you the option for plug in third party devices. Which  to say its definitely a step in the right direction. After buying a 900 and Xterra Pro the headphone issue was one of the reasons I cancelled my order. As far as coils, hell Minelab can't even get one out for the Manticore, whats it been, almost a year ? I think a coil package might just be a bridge too far. lol. But we can hope.

I have recovered around 100 US coins so far with the Manticore but have mostly been concentrating on copper pennies, clad dimes and quarters with around 10 nickels. Most have been in the 4 to 6" depth range but a few of the high conductors have been as deep as 8 to 10". At the 8 to 10" depth target ID spread will get wider in the dirt I hunt in but audio still stays mostly within the tone bin with an occasional drop below 77. Deeper nickels also have stayed in the 8 digit tone bin I set for them from 57 to 64. I basically discount the wild zinc penny target IDs if they have some depth and especially corrosion.

With these much more powerful, sensitive, and less stable simultaneous multi frequency VLF detectors, I really concentrate on coil control and on not fully deciding on dig/no dig on deeper targets until I have onboard pinpointed the target and centered the coil over the target. The Manticore's pinpoint function is outstanding and makes that really easy. I get pretty tight numbers circling deeper US high conductor coin targets after doing that so far. I have not dug any deep iron yet. Maybe I am being too conservative.

Jeff hi, did I read that right ? You say nickels are coming in at 57 to 64. I'm still using the 900 and my bin 2 nickels/midtones are set from 23 to 29. Being the same target scale for both I would think Ids would be a little closer than that. Have been slowly losing confidence in the 900 as the depth issues continue. Thanks for your report and will be interested to see hear your thoughts as time goes on. Good luck. Mark

Saw this WM09 coming down the pike, I'm out of the loop, not even sure what the WM08 was for, let alone this one. Maybe it's old news? Or for some entry level machine? Or the 08 needed some kind of upgrade like lower latency?

I know a lot of people can't hear the latency in BT headphones but I definitely can and it drives me crazy, so maybe just updating that?

But really, I just wanted to hope it means a new detector is coming. 😄

Not seeing it listed on their website. Can I ask where this info came from ? Been a long time coming if accurate. Thanks for sharing. Mark

  16. WOW ! Great mixed bag hunt. Quarter trifecta, token, toys, relics, a little bit of everything. Yard permissions like that are hard to find these days. I agree with the comment on leaving the pinched Ihp the way it is for display. Quite the conversation piece. The button is interesting, would love to know more about that. Congrats on the silver score and all the other cool finds. I would definitely hit that place a couple more times. Good luck. Mark

  17. Just read in the Manticore section that a possible second update may be coming. Meanwhile those of us with 900s are wondering if there will ever be an update . Back before the first Manticore update someone had posted from the e-mail response they got from Minelab about an update for the 900 and their reply was it would be released when ready. Implying that there was an update coming. Well since the first Manticore update which came with mixed results, it seemed to work well for some and then not so much for others in different parts of the country. So I have to think Minelab may be reworking the updates. SO MINELAB  if You're READING, along with addressing the seriously way too jumpy numbers, better target Id's and other issues could you please include in the update, 1 the long noise cancel feature that the Manticore uses. 2 a mineralization meter and 3 please, please, PLEASE a third party headphone option. Thanks in advance. One other issue with the 900 that seems to be constant for me is deeper targets. After 60 + hunts with the 900 I have yet to hit deep coin sized targets, deeper than 4 inches. I thought it might be the ground I hunt but just recently I took the Xterra Pro to one of the same fields I hunt and it started hitting 7 & 8 inch pulltabs right away. As A matter of fact too many if you ask me. In the past I've hunted the same areas with the 800 and had no problems hittting coins at 8+ inches. Has anyone else encountered depth issues with the 900 ? Also a note of interest, in my area, I would say 90 % of the  time the 800, 900 and Xterra Pro severely up average the Id numbers. Particularly pennies whether they are Ihps, wheats or memorials doesn't matter. And with the 900 and Xterra, they seem to lowball  the numbers for dimes. Minelab help us out, we're waiting.

Not with the stock coil.  Seemed to run more stable TID at a local ball field, but at relic sites I've been to the last couple of weeks could not get it to run stable above 16 sensitivity due to EMI so went with the D2 which was stable close to Max sensitivity.  So there's that.

So Chase what are your thoughts now that you have had time to use and assess the 900 ? Being a 900 user myself I'd like to hear your opinion. Thanks
