  1. I agree, an hour meter would be nice. However it could be a kinda of double edged sword. Yes when buying used, knowing how much  it has been used could help determine price provided the machine doesn't appear to be beat. Additionally it could tell you your exact swing time. But on the other hand say a machine has a tendency to malfunction or brake down at a certain hour mark, this could kill resale value. And any sale of used electronics is always a pig in a poke. I would like to see a mineralization meter on Minelabs.

I know this is an old thread, but since it's been bumped recently, I'm going to throw my .02 in for whatever comes next. 😁

"What Features And Performance Improvements Would You Like To See In The Next High End Minelab Coin Detector?"

    1) As lightweight or even lighter than the current Deus 2. Use carbon fiber wherever possible. Even on the coil casing, arm cuff and grip.

    2) Lower shaft should be mounted in the CENTER of the coil. Not offset.

    3) Entire shaft should be very rigid. Again, using carbon fiber. This is a high end machine, so why not?

    4) Shaft should be keyed like the current Deus 2 and Legend, so that it doesn't rotate.

    5) Shaft should be clearly marked with adjustment lines so that we can quickly extend it to our desired length.

    6) Coil cable should be concealed inside the shaft, similar to the CTX, or make it completely wireless like the Deus.

    7) A comfortable ergonomic grip, yet still easy to clean.

8 ) A functional stand. This really shouldn't have to be mentioned, but.... (ahem, XP).

    9) The display should be in color and easy to read without glare.

    10) The pinpoint button should be trigger style. Activated with the index finger. Similar to the CTX and the older White's units like the V3i, XLT and DFX.

    11) All other buttons should be within thumbs reach. No more buttons mounted on the SIDE of the detector.

    12) The menu should be well thought out and easy to navigate.

    13) Give it descriptive audio like the Deus 2, good visual aids like the Manticore. Audio should be highly configurable to the user's preference.

    14) Depth, separation and EMI handling should be as good or better than the current crop of high end detectors.

    15) Lots of coil options upon release.

    16) Charging connections should be as quick and easy as possible. Magnetic works well enough.

    17) Bonus points for a wireless pinpointer running same disc as the detector. Similar to the old Sunray probes, but smaller and wireless.

Oh man DeWayne that was spot on, the only thing I might add it a minerallisation meter like on the Fishers. Not sure if that was mentioned. I had hopes of a Bluetooth pinpointer back in 2018 when they announced the 800 was compatible with 4 devices.

  3. Rick. I got a response from a comment I made on that subject on another forum and the guy said in an e-mail from Minelab that the update would be posted when it was ready. So I'm assuming there is one coming. But we all know what it means to assume. Haha. I was ready to part with my 900 but will see what the update brings. Have to say I have not been too keen on its performance as of late. My loyalty to Minelab has been fading as well  with the misleading adds BS claims and failure to meet what was promised in the announcement of the Manticore. I read on one forum that the reason for no extra coils was the demand for the Manticore is so high that they don't have time for it. But they have the time to pump out 700/900s and E-Terras. And in case you wondering what any of this has to do with the 900, I originally had a Manticore ordered because in the video Mark Lawrie said the other coils would be available on release and even inferred that the coil of your choice could be ordered with your Manticore. I'm a small coil hunter so I went with the 900. Sorry to rant, just really disappointed with Minelab. Taking a second look at the D2 with 9in. coil. Mark

According to the article, the identity of the finder will not be revealed, also all the coins were sent to NGC to be cleaned and graded, then the coins went be sold by GovMint which is one the biggest and best rare coin dealers in the country, so I'm sure all the bases are covered.

I would guess the finder either owns the land the coins were found on or he made a deal with the land owner.

Ok so Gov.mint is not a government agency. When I first saw that I thought maybe the coins were confiscated. Wouldn't be a surprise, really. I wonder if it was the landowner that found it. I would be happy with just one gold coin, any gold coin.

  5. Tim although only recently joined  I have followed this forum for a while now and find the info quite helpful. The forums are the closest I get to social media so they do help when considering what products I will purchase.

My latest purchase, The Equinox 900 in early December came I think as natural progression from the 800 which I had been using for almost the last 5 yrs. It seemed to address all of the short comings that people complained of.  The build quality issue was definitely laid to rest. The expanded Id range which many ask for gave promise to better target Id. IMO it has not. One of my main gripes with the 800 when I first started using was its inability to tell a penny from a dime. I hunt alot of yards and at times would like to be more discreet about what signals I dig. In air tests it Ids fine but in my crazy soil all bets are off and often deeper pennies whether they be Ihps ,wheats or memorials will come in the 90s as does all the silver. This too happened with the 800. And it seems the other current SMF machines on the market have trouble in this area as well. I mean telling a penny from a dime. Without going into too much more detail overall I like the 900 and feel it could use a tweak or two which I believe Minelab is working on.

I had preordered a Manticore but when my dealer called the first week of Jan. I passed. The proprietary headphones is a real sticker with me,on the 900 as well, the falsing, and some of the reports I read were not all that impressive. Other than the long noise cancel I think the 900 is just as good as the Manticore.  I may give one a try in the future, Undecided.

Like you the Legend has my attention. After a dismal rollout and some preliminary issues Nokta has really done a great job on PR and updates and to give the customer what he or she wants. These days you are hard pressed to find any negative posts about it and it seems to have found its place among the SMF machines.  Strongly considering one.

The D 2 with its latest update seems to have addressed alot of its user's concerns. I had also preordered the D 2 but the vague warranty wording, the uncomfortable backphones, the flimsy shaft and the fact you needed to tether the remote to the shaft to keep from loosing it were all issues that soured me, not to mention charging coils sounded like a real pain. And a way too in depth navigation menu, at least for me anyway,, do you want to hunt or spend all day changing settings or do you want to hunt. And if you forget to save the settings your screwed. You have to start all over the next time. And on that note after adjusting and readjusting how do you know you've got it right. and each site is different. I guess thats fine for the guy who likes to tinker but I would rather spend the time with a machine with a few simple adjustments has me finding stuff. Of the last three this one would be my least likely purchase. Again this is from reports I have read on the forums.

One more thing Youtube, although overun with videos these days back in 2016 when I was considering a Deus or an Etrac it did help me decide on which one to purchase. The reports from the forums on both were very impressive but it was a Youtube video that helped me decide. When I heard the tones on the Deus, sounded like a strangled chicken or a bug that needed swatted I knew I would not be happy hunting with that machine.

    Anyway, my thoughts. Mark

  6. Hello, my name is Mark. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pa. I started md'ing with an AT Pro in 2015. Moved to an Etrac then an Equinox 800 when they came out in Feb. of 2018.  I currently use a 900 that I purchased in mid-December of 22. My main interests are coinshooting, jewelry, tokens and small relics in yards and parks.

I have followed the forum for a while now and enjoy its content and the discussions that go on here. I look forward to participating in some of them. Thanks for having me aboard. Mark
