  1. I recently bought a deus II master/9". Dealer checked the box he had and no CF lower. He offered to add the CF lower and tempered glass screen protector so I bought from him. Turns out the SW version was .71 so the box was possibly sitting for a while.

Also an fyi that I was able to upgrade the WS6 master unit to version 2.0 using my Macbook Pro with the Chrome browser. My unit weighs in at about 1.9 lbs with a bluetooth aptX LL transmitter attached. I tried it out for a couple hours and like what I see. My arm/shoulder are grateful. I plan to try the Tekkna custom program shortly.

    cheers

  2. I'm interested in the WS6 master also due to the light weight (I'd go with the 9" coil for that reason). I noticed on the official XP site 'blog' it states that 'all' Deus II are shipping with the new Carbon Fibre lower shaft and new 'better' screen protectors. This is from a December 15 post stating this had already been happening for a couple months. So, knowing this I won't be buying till I'm assured that I'd receive the CF lower shaft in the box. Let us know if you get the updated 'new' version. cheers...

It's more than just recovery speed. I hesitate to say much because some are running the new software and some the old. Some have mineralized dirt and some mild so what works in one scenario, might not work in another. And if Minelab does another update things could change again.

I started to realize about 2 weeks ago with all this testing between the 2 software versions (I've been back and forth between the 2 probably 6 times now), that I was trying to run the Manticore like I did my Equinox 800. What I really needed to do is look at the Manticore as a totally different machine, which it is.

Lets just take recovery speed as an example. Like UT Dave, I for the most part set my recovery at 3 or 4 on the Equinox 800 and it did great at the majority of the locations I hunt. Recovery at 3 on the Manticore (most recent update) causes some real issues in my dirt. Recovery at 6 is much better.

I'll just say this. Once you have the Manticore dialed in on the right mode, with the right sensitivity, recovery, ferrous limits, swing speed, etc. It's a totally different Machine and I can with confidence say it's deeper that the Equinox and just as stable once you set it up right. For example I have a 7" clad dime buried in my yard that has 4 bar dirt and I can not only get that dime with clear audio, but I can also get the ID to within 2 or 3 numbers consistently.

But like I said, what works for me might not work for someone else.

curious what settings you settled on for a clear signal on your 7" clad dime

Also our clad coin here in Canada is iron core multi layer.  And shows up as garbage signal with anything over 18 power.  So, there's a trade off.  Jewelry mid to high power or clad with low power.

so running multi-freq @ around 16 sensitivity gives a decent signal on iron-core clad? Can you say a bit more on this, ie what settings you use and what they sound like. I use my EQ800 @ single freq and do ok on these...

  5. NOTE to MINELAB: my MacBook pro only has usb 'C' ports. used an Aukey USB-A to C adapter but update fails (no connection).....sigh.....M105 update does work using the same adapter.

pretty lame Minelab....if anyone knows of another adapter that works in this situation let me know....

will need to find an (antique) PC with USB-A port.....

  6. it boggles the mind how Minelab releases the Mcore, then 900/700 and even Xterra Pro and yet 2 relatively simple tech coils are yet to be released....    These would be very popular, increasing Mcore usage and I would imagine them to be high profit margin items. I just don't get it Minelab. Myself, I want the small coil for jewellery hunting/light weight and will buy one as soon as it becomes available. Come on Minelab get off your proverbial asses...and make this happen.

  7. Red light, Green light….

yes, like on the Korean game show on Netflix but reversed, lol. decided to take my IhaveaCore out for show and tell (ground is frozen/muddy here) so I charged up the M-core and M105’s (green light!) to give it a go anyway. On arrival turned them on and the M105’s wouldn’t power on! tried to reset them (10sec power button press) to no avail…sigh…so back home it was to get the supplied cable…that worked…

Later, at home they came back to life….turns out it’s related to charging…red light (charging) good, green light (charged) bad! ie lockup…so as long as they ‘don’t think’ they’re fully charged, good to go…but see the green light on the charger (charged), pull the cable and deadsville... oh well, hopefully I’ll be the only one to see this. I’ll apply for my RMA # when ML staff returns to work….

On another issue, the ‘noise cancel long-press trick’ I watched a couple videos of folks attempting to achieve ‘one number’ nirvana doing this and having issues with ‘outliers’ rearing their ugly heads, thereby ending up picking a number they liked, sort of.

So I had an idea. Now I’m an old guy and pretty ‘shaky’ (both demeanour and physicality) so I came up with the idea of an additional piece of detecting kit to solve the stability issue, a tripod!

Now don’t laugh y’all. folks drag along shovels and scoops so why not a tripod. since it’s been said (by one who knows) that the M-core must be held ‘perfectly still’ when noise cancelling, the tripod then comes into play. set it up (as high as possible) carefully balance the beast on it and commence with the long press noise cancel 'trick'! Voilà….you’re all set.

haha…oh, and if those evil outliers still persist then the forthcoming FW update could fix it once and for all by simply masking out those pesky outliers in software and homing in on the single number, fixed! it’s mostly phycological anyway so give em what they want, eh…cheers and a happy new year to all…

Longbow62, I noticed the TID numbers were red in addition to the red line under the number for iron.  I think there are a few versions Minelab is testing to update the Manticore software.  I read a post that said NASA-Tom was testing a version that is two or three version numbers ahead of the version shipping with the detector.

Maybe Simon is right in that Minelab is holding up Manticore production until they get some newly found bugs worked out of the software.  I'm sure they are upset about the videos CD is putting out about the Manticore.  Especially after they apparently (according to CD) sent him a free one for testing.

I'd really like to see the ability to reduce/adjust the target trace display decay time. I believe it's always 5 seconds. maybe it would show adjacent targets and their locations a bit better if you could drop it down to 2 or 3 seconds.

I believe TomD mentioned version '59'. the production SW version is 5.12.0+50

The in-ground falsing does sound like a problem but I can't test the various solutions without a Manticore.  I'm don't think there are iron loaded sites I've visited around here that would be a problem anyway.  I've read that NASA-Tom is already testing an advanced version of the Manticore software so there could already be fix to mitigate much of it anyway.

Sounds like a normal Christmas to me.  We did the same in the morning after breakfast.  The dog made out like a bandit!!  Then watched all our planned Christmas movies and now I'm on to Alien (ET) documentaries.

I recall Tom saying his version was '59' at one point. I believe the shipped version is '50'. I don't believe he has easy access to the proper sites for 'bed of nail' testing, maybe other 'testers' are running newer versions of the software also... I have a site with a lot of small gauge rusty wire bits everywhere that I'll try out in March/April when we thaw out here....

Most of the newer designs use ARM Cortex micros like the STM32 line (my favorite). Programmed in C or C++ (my preference).

mention of ‘C’ & assembler brings back the memories, from Fortran test code (and HW design) for ECL based B-52 flight simulator to berkley Unix system startup for my 1st ‘C’/assembler job doing diagnostics then to Fortune Systems for Unix-based FW/diags/device drivers, then Mips for chip test assembler simulations then Unix based FW/diags/device drivers (I was the only non-genius there) then to Apple for the same!…after quitting that I should have applied to one of the MD firms! I would have been a good candidate..except that I didn’t handle/use a metal detector till I moved to Canada years later….good times..

Looking forward to buying your book when it comes out…cheers

Yup. Not everyone wants to invest in new coils. What about that superb Coiltek 10x5? If I go to Manticore, it’s no good. Works on 900. I see lots of reason, and not just price, to go from 800 to 900. I may go 900 first while dust settles on all but inevitable Manticore issues. If it’s the first bug free detector in years that would be a first. The 900 in the other hand basically fixes Nox bugs. It will be the best seller in my opinion. People overestimate how many of the general public wants to spend the big bucks on a detector, and the 900, building on Nox success, really hits the sweet spot. Forums skew to machines like the Manticore, but forum members are generally running detectors at higher levels than the average people you will see at club meetings around the country. Even the 900 is a stretch for a lot of people.

I agree with you but in my case I'll just stick with my 800 with Tele-Knox 3 piece rod (dark blue same as my lightening blue Ford) and the Coiltek 10x5. No water hunting for me so no problem there. That combo worked really well for me this year so I'll continue with it. But I'm going with the M-core also, well simply because I can....really don't need it and I'm not overly optimistic I missed much in the older sites I can get to but it will be fun to try. I generally drive to sites with a backpack and motorcycle so both of them having the ability to collapse is win/win...cheers all
