    That I cannot answer yet.

I have a shipment going out to USA this week... may or may not make it on this shipment.

But definitely the next one.  Will keep you updated.

New Gold Racer will be in - in time for this week end. Had that coil been available two days ago you would have one less to worry about. Keep us posted...............thanks.

Steve, I am blaming this one solely on you.

  2. Strick, that guy with the metal detector is a resident homeless man at that beach. His name is Seafa and his dog is Tahini. Ended up paling around a bit with him turned out to be a good guy. He has a cheap Bounty Hunter and I helped him set up and run that detector. I gave him all the change I found, on the day I left stopped and said good buy well he gave me beach glass and some nice shells he hade stashed in his pack, I don't think he has much so that touched me.

Rob, I was on Maui, West side. Lots of newer mega resorts there. I stay in an older hole in the wall place but I can be in the mayhem quickly. I did go to Kanapalli beach on day. That is a large beach with thousand of people and it must get a regular go thru, I believe I got 36 cents there and really not any trash. Metal detecting there was boring but the scenery was a saving grace.

Steve, That  really taught me to study the beach and pay attention to the subtle things more than just having the most expensive detector. I started studying the tide tables after that.

Here is a link to some good beach detecting info the author talks a lot about reading the beach changes. http://web.archive.org/web/20090406024500/http://thegoldenolde.com/oldego3.htm.

Hope next year I find one with a big rock attached to it.

  3. Not many finds posted lately so I thought I would share mine.

Headed to Hawaii for a Spring Break Vacation in April. Took my trusty old Excalibur with me on this adventure as it is a really good beach/surf detector.

With all the new detectors being released lately I contemplated getting something new for the trip, but decided that I don't beach hunt enough to justify it. Instead I replaced the stock S shaft with a new Pluggers carbon fiber four piece dive/balanced shaft that I purchased on Ebay. Normally I like a S shaft but the Excal is really heavy and the new shaft is a blessing. Liked it so much, maybe for next year I will add GG head phones and the PP mod.

Really planed to get into the surf this year but end up with a bad case of ReanalGlacoma ( could not see getting my ass in the water) Alcohol may have been involved. So I ended up spending my time dry sand hunting. WOW the beaches seem to be really worked over this year and pickings were slim, not even a lot of trash.

I did come up with the usual lots of clad and some junk  and several cool relics but not much to brag about until the morning I happen to stroll down to the area the surfers head out from. I saw the beach had washed out about two plus foot overnight.

I had been over this spot the day before and not much. But wanted to see if the wash out changed anything and to my surprise the area was loaded with coins ( still no silver ) And jewelry. Hit a nice little silver toe ring a few silver ear rings a silver clad ring and my first gold ring at the beach.

The lesson here is anytime the beach changes dramatically get in there! Its kind of like taking a bulldozer to the tailing piles.

Finds from the washed out beach.............And the fist gold from the beach. WooHoo:biggrin:

    HH everyone.

  4. Roughwater, I use a old Excalibur for the beach and a Fisher F19 for park hunting / general prospecting and a GPX for dedicated prospecting.

I support your thought on buying used for the type of metal detecting you are NOT going to concentrate on. You can find excellent deals and most likely recoup the investment when you sell not to mention the value of the finds. At 400.00 I can't see losing any money.

I took the Excal and F19 to the beach recently and the Excal smoked the F19 anywhere near water or wet sand. Took the same setup to the park, hands down the F19 was more fun.

Anyway don't be afraid to look at used and remember between finds and resale you will come out fine no matter what you get. The real thing to consider is what will give you the most fun!

FYI- If you are anywhere near water get a detector that can be submerged.

  5. Thanks Bob, I do plan to leave the extra aluminum  incase a second set of floats are needed. Both you guy's have fair warned me on the stability in rough water.

Rite now the problem I see is the test sump is well below the floats and will stay that way until I do my test run as the only way to fix it would require a major frame mod or larger floats.

The problem I see now that it is getting assembled. The sump will be below the water surface and I think with the water  pouring in.  I'm not sure what that will do. In essence the tube may have to be placed on top of the frame?

I think your rite on the punch plate.

  6. Way to go Eric! You have me beat for an old coin find.

Hay got your text. Sorry I didn't reply if you saw my phone you would understand........ Heading out for a few on vaca but when I get back let's hook up and do some detecting. I'm thinking spring will be early.

Kind of interesting the dirt parking lots have been some of the most productive places to hunt for me.

  7. I would love to meet up, unfortunately I will be in Maui on Monday.

I know what you mean on the Tiger Flex hose, It has a hard time in the cold temps.

Some pictures of the 6, I am working on. Keep in mind this is a prototype and until I see it in operation and prove it is worthwhile to put more effort into, it's kind of rough construction.

Any way the basic idea is similar to Keene's new SuperMax 6 with a sump and secondary sluice. For the test run I am just going to hook my 2 inch dredge in behind the 6.

If this set up works well I will  rebuild it with a better frame and floats. Replace the sluice box with a custom made one where the sump is incorporated in it and mount the secondary sluice above the tube in-between the motors.

I'll be curious to see what comments I get on this.P1020643.thumb.JPG.2b253acdc7feeed059e43P1020646.thumb.JPG.7a2f72cb1a06873cbcbe5P1020648.thumb.JPG.db182815d3ac85ec738eeP1020644.thumb.JPG.98da66e35717aa1b93946P1020651.thumb.JPG.e689b6f85f79b0155fc4bP1020647.thumb.JPG.4a82fe3639c1b6793136f

  8. minerdude, my 4 inch subbie is set up with Keene 2 1/2 inch floats and that seems to be perfect. The bars are closer at 1/2 inch and the first riffle is open but for the pictures I have a piece of punch plate blocking the view.

I plan to test run this thing at the end of the month so really interested in comments at this point.

I will get some pictures posted tonight of a second sub-surface dredge I am building right now. I would really like feedback on this one as it is a six inch with a twist.

Steve - How is the video uploading addition to the forum? I got a GoPro last week and plan to spend a bit of time next week in Hawaii getting the ins and outs understood.

Mine works with out motion also the vibration increases as you get close to the target. Get rid of that and get a new one.

  10. I contemplated this for a long time. Really I am unsure how this will affect the riffle area and I come to the same conclusion. Do it and see what the result is. If it works great if not cut it off and go back to the standard riffle.

Don't know if it is apparent? but I did put some thought into the placement of the grizzly. First I used 1/8 inch bars set at 1/2 inch spacing and raised them 1 inch off the riffle. My hope here is to not disrupt the flow of water and destroy the vortex. I really hemmed and hawed on the height but settled for the 1 inch. It is hard to tell but if you look down the tube the bars are in line with the bottom of the tube. This should make for a pretty straight shot out the back.

I tend to hog material and dredge for long periods of time before checking the box. And I can't count the times I have looked to see a flat stone wedged in there. That is the primary driver to the bars. Let's hope it solves that without creating a new issue.

I do run miners moss in the box just left it out for the pictures. I will end up testing some GolHog UR matting in this. Other test I have done with the UR warrant a look see here as well.

I plan to set up to do video clips of dredging this year and I will make it a goal to get something posted for you. I can see this is of intrest to you so plan on a clip of this in operation.

    Anyway thanks for the info.

  11. Tom, give the expanded metal a try. I think it will work good. If not put in the riffles. I am running GoldHog matting in my 2 inch but almost went with the large expanded metal. So I am really curious how it works.

I am surprised the long nozzle did not work with the P90 set up. Make sure you have a good seal at the connections as gaps in the line rob a lot of suction at the tip. The other option is a mask unless you have air.

Another idea would be to slip a larger pvc pipe over the last several feet of hose and tip kind of like a splint.

Anyway I like what you are doing with the build it looks professional instead of cobbled together.

  12. Hi Tom, Good call on the factory floats. After this next season you will be thinking " the best money I ever spent".

The 1/2 inch steel tube is plenty strong for a 2 inch setup. You would have been fine with aluminum. The rivets will wear out fast so you might want to have it welded or just use 1/4 inch bolts. Make sure you use nylock nuts on everything, the vibrations will loosen everything fast. And the most important thing, PAINT THE FRAME!

The mount for the motor is in a good spot as it is out of the way and with the size floats you have I don't think you will have any listing issues. Also if need be you can add some rocks at the other end to level things up As far as adjustment for the box, weld a 1/2 inch nut to each side of the box and use all thread with a T welded at the top. Forget about the sliding back and forth thing.

I really like what you have done with the 4lb expanded metal that should be really good on fine gold and the rainbow colored water softener is the bomb.

As a suggestion for handles I would get conduit and slip it into the 1/2 inch box steel use a conduit bender to make it wrap back to the next 1/2 inch box steel and pin it thru. This will make a long u shape handle and also you can use it to attach your tie back rope.

Last suggestion get a long section of exhaust pipe and make a extended length suction nozzle 3-4 foot will keep you up straight and face out of the water.
