I know a lot of what I call "real miners." Alaska still has plenty of small placer mining operations, many of them family operations. Or serious gold dredgers. Almost to a person they consider metal detecting for a gold a complete waste of time. They have a family to feed and bills to pay and no time for toys. In the world of gold mining metal detectors are toys. Useful toys at times perhaps, but still toys. Me on my favorite mining tool....

That's a bit bigger than my D4, but we all gotta start somewhere ?

Here’s the comparison chart for GB2 coils. If you only have the one detector, then maybe a large coil for getting more depth on larger deeper pieces. But if you have a lower frequency detector also then no need to get a coil that another detector will get the deeper targets on already. The GB2 is really a small gold detector for most situations, but not all.

That chart certainly shows the 10" coil dominates in a broader range,  but the 6.5 definitely dominates in the size gold the gb2 is meant for.  If it was my only detector,  I would run a 10", but I  have actually acquired several that cover most situations for gold. I'm becoming as bad with Detectors as I am with guns ?

Oh, there is plenty of that here!!

Yes, I have to agree with that too. We are all foaming at the mouth to get the latest and greatest detector, that finds even SMALLER bits even deeper than before. It seems the challenge and the hunt, and the pure satisfaction of accomplishment is the true addiction.

  4. So from all of the responses, it's nice to see that even the guys doing this for many years feel every tiny piece is a thrill and a treasure. This tells me this is a rare hobby. Seems like a lot of things we do in life end up being less exciting, and we need new and improved,  or bigger and better to keep our enthusiasm.  I guess it really is a fever. ?

no overload on mine rock solid

you may have a bad coil

check to see if there's sand in the coil cover

make sure the plug is seated correctly

I've done all of the above. Nokta even had me send it to them for repair. It came back 6 weeks later doing the same thing. No changes

  6. Have any of you who own and have time with the gold kruzer, experienced it overloading at any specific gain setting, even in the air, nomatter where you are? Mine will overload at gain level 80 or 90, depending on the day, nomatter where I'm at. When new, it didn't do this. I could run it smoothly at maximum gain in most places. Then suddenly one day, it decided to overload at gain 80 or 90. This only happens with the smaller DD coil. It runs perfect with the 5x10 concentric.

  7. I actually enjoy comparison videos. Some say they mean nothing, but I disagree.  If they are done under the same circumstances,  they mean something.  I think we all understand that if the same test was done in a different location, with different nuggets, and a different operator, the results could very well be completely opposite. If you watch Chris Ralph's video comparing the 2 detectors,  he has different results.
