  1. Heck yeah my friend. I don’t notch anything ever. I always just move the tone break. Yesterday I had a great time and learned that pitch tones really helped in loads of iron. What a difference
  2. Welcome to the forum, yeah I’m liking it here also. So much good information. I’ve been out digging everything and just really trying to learn the machine and its tones. I realize the more targets I dig I can start to pick up on certain sounds but it’s a learning process 😂 im actually on Long Island New York. Are you anywhere near there or more upstate
  3. yeah I can't wait for a ring to pop out 😝 its only a matter of time if I keep digging the trash out
  4. I totally understand what I quoted you on this was a separate question I respect your decision not to make any claims if you don’t want to I’m just trying to learn and see if there was anything I can be listening for other than just ferrous and nonferrous. Thank you for your time 🙏🏻
  5. Yes that I did and I was also in all metal with my tone break set in between 9-11. But my question is if you can hear a difference between say a coin and a piece of trash metal like brass or aluminum. Is there something I should be listening for. example- when I was in those settings and swinging away, I sometimes I hit a target that sounds clean and strong thinking it was a coin but when I dug it up it be a small piece of brass. Is there a sound that would give me the ability to really tell if it’s a coin or just some junk metal. I mean not that I’m not digging it up anyway but I guess I’m trying to see if it’s something I need to listen and or just learn in time meaning, maybe it’ll be scratchy, or a mix of grunt with a high tone beep or is it always going to be either a beep or a grunt and never a combination. And I also understand that if it is close to my tone break, it might do that but being way above the tone break, I’m asking if there is also other sounds, I can look out for that. Will give me hints on whether if it’s a tight, circular object or Elongated or on its edge or whatever
  6. Just out of curiosity, how? Will there be a little grunt or break or some sort of chirp? I really like pitch because I feel like it separates really well I just know I’ll be digging way more which I’m ok with also but I’m just curious
  7. Yeah I know. I wish they were all like that😂 and i agree with you about the tones but there’s literally to many targets and it sounding like a machine gun and it was killing me😂 im hunting a park that’s literally 1 minute down the road and i never see anyone metal detecting it which would explain why so many targets. after a while I really did open it up with a discrimination of 10 and even played around in pitch which I actually loved because I just dig everything anyway 😂.
  8. I know I’m really excited for the next trip out, and thank you
  9. So today I went out for the first time with this machine and man it was a lot of fun. I’ve been playing with this legend at home waiting for the day to come but it’s been so rainy and wet well, the heck with the rainy weather and muddy grounds, I could not wait any longer 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So there I am tinkering around with settings and just getting the hang of it field mode, 60 tone on m2 , 0 IF, and discriminated way high cause this park is completely trashy so I need to clean this place up, So I figured to work my way down. Right now I’m stuck with the lg30 because that’s what it comes with so I just set my recovery high at 8 because I’m not really looking to go deep. this thing is an animal man😂. I felt , I don’t know, connected? Yeah connected. it turned out pretty good as far as pinpointing but I don’t use the button for that. I just move my coil back , turn and repeat. I was excited to to put my coil over 1974 half dollar and the thing damn near blew my eardrums out 😂😂. I found a ton of pennies and clad in the beginning but as I started lowering my discrimination I went into the pulltabs 👏🏻. And omg there’s just so many. Anyway I just felt like sharing this being that I’m still fairly new to the hobby and it just felt really good to be connected to this machine
  10. My friend, I totally understand this, I get it, it’s pretty much the same for me but only with the asking for permission. I go to the park no problem. As far as having someone to detect with, I’m always going by myself because anyone I bring this up to thinks I’m weird 🤣😂🤣😂 they just don’t get it, and I even have the equipment for them, like that xterra pro? I bought that for my son to see if he would want to get into the hobby with me but unfortunately it’s not for him is what he tells me and that’s ok I understand it’s just not for everyone. Turns out that machine is actually pretty awesome 😂 so I keep it just in case someone wants to come and plus it changes things up for me to 😂. The equinox 600 is a ok machine it just lacks in some of the important features so I decided to buy the legend and dive in
  11. Wow😳. Now this is something I’ll read more than once. There’s a ton of good info man. Thank you 🙏🏻
  12. Yeah I’ve hunted the beach only a few times and never found anything just yet, but I believe it to be the reason of exactly what you’re saying, it’s way late in the season for where I am there is not a lot of traffic, and the place looks like it has been sanded up beyond belief plus it’s just to dang cold 😂😂 as far as asking for permission, I believe the hurdle for me is actually getting them to believe the simple fact that I am not destroying their property, people don’t understand about the plugs we pull and how we protect the earth, so this is the tricky part for me. I will definitely continue this practice as I am sure it’s a whole Nother art in itself.😂😂😂
  13. Great response bro. One day I’ll get there, it’s more about putting in the time I guess. But thank you for the response. I’ve been in my apartment running test and just getting familiar with the new machine but haven’t been able to get out to a real dig where I’m sure things will start to make even more sense as I pull up the proof out of the ground
  14. Yes, I admit that when I went back and looked at some more of his videos, it doesn’t quite tell me denomination of the coin he just knows whether it’s trash or not just like you said, I’m not sure if you’re following this thread or not which is the purpose of why I tagged you, but you can go read the message I just left and you will see that it was my mistake and I thought otherwise 🙌🏻😂😂😂
  15. Yes this makes sense and I’ve been playing around with both 60 tones and pitch tones, that’s why I was confused how he was calling targets out However, now that I look at it and go back he’s actually not calling the denomination of a coin when he believes it’s a coin, he just says it’s a coin or trash. This person calls things like, junkie, trash, or it’s trashy or it’s a coin. and now I feel like an idiot for not paying attention to that🤣🤣🤣🙌🏻 my fault on that 100% however it’s still very impressive to me that he knows what kind of junkie trash it can be whether it be a pulltab, bottle cap, or complete iron or something but I guess he can hear that in the tone of the pitch, So I did a little testing myself with the legend, and it actually pretty hard for me to hear it in pitch as far as whether if it is junkie or not, example being if I swing over the target is there a little grunt or no grunt, when I’m in 60 tones, a pool tab will just beep and have a number 😂. I really don’t know if I’m saying all this correctly as again, I am brand new to this stuff, but one thing is for sure is that I am fascinated 😂😂
  16. Thank you so much for the links, I was actually going to ask you where and how I find them. Obviously I’m new to this platform and don’t really know my way around 100% and yes, I’m definitely getting some great reads and great information already, you guys are so intelligent with this stuff so you can imagine how grateful I am I will definitely spend time soon reading all your stuff and it’s well appreciated Thank you again 🙏🏻
  17. Ok so then when I see people in pitch, some are able to specifically call out targets but how do they do this if the pitch is always the same but only the volume tells them how deep it is I really apologize if I sound stupid but it’s just to interesting for me not to ask🤣 I see guys that are so good with pitch that they literally know what is in the ground without even looking at the numbers. They do it all by sound. I kinda wish we could have both tonal pitch and volume pitch in 60 tones but I guess it doesn’t work that way
  18. question if I may so even if im in 60 tones I can still hear depth of target by the loudness or softness just like pitch tones?
  19. Man I’m grateful for everything I’ve already read and yes there’s so much to learn. I plan on spending some great time with the legend and really getting to know this machine in and out. I will definitely be taking a good look at all your ( how to ) information as this is something I’ve really been trying to figure out how all these metal Detectorists get their amazing permissions 🤣🤣🤣. There’s some awesome history where I’m at and that’s really what this is all about for me ( learning the history as well ) I also do have a lot of public parks which have been amazing already, I’ve tried the beach thing a couple of times but don’t really know much about it yet, although I watch a ton of videos, still though when I go it’s like there’s absolutely no targets there and I know it’s not the machines 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏼‍♂️ I know this stuff takes time and I’m in no rush because from what I understand already, this will be a life long learning experience I thank you so much for responding and I’m looking forward to creating new friendships along the way 🙌🏻
  20. Hello everyone, pretty new to detecting but have gotten stuck with the bug for about just under a year now, been swinging with the nox 600, then just bought the xterra pro and now also just got the Legend. I’m glad to be apart of this as I’ve seen some really good people here sharing some great advice and hopefully one day I myself will be able to help others. Right now I need to learn 🤪 Anyway, I’ve become so fascinated with the science behind this hobby and I’m starting to realize it’s a life time of learning so , here I am🤷🏻‍♂️🤣
