  1. If you hit a large virgin patch you will find most worthwhile nuggets you will get are in the 0.1 to 1.0gms range. in most of the area you cover this will be the case, but you may get a few bit ranging from double number gm to multi ounce bits but they are easily heard till you hit deeper ground. At this stage a bigger coil is the way to go. As Lunk said using a double DD coil in pseudo-monoloop will really help in cleaning up tiny bits. I have used this method many times when I was too lazy to go back to the 4WD for a smaller coil. Note when pinpointing in this mode the centre of the signal will be on the side and centre of the transmit coil, the same goes with using the edge of the coil it is on the transmit side also.

  3. Gold facts/information Quote then add your facts

A cubic centimetre of gold weight 19.3 grams

A cubic inch weight is 10 ounces

Gold is Au and silver is Ag

    Atomic n° of gold is 79 (Au79)

Silver is a better conductor of heat and electricity than gold but gold does not oxidize.

Gold is soft, dense, malleable, ductile

Gold is malleable enough for just 1 gram to be hammered into a sheet 1 square meter in size.

The melting point of Gold is 1,064.43°C (1,947.97°F).

100% of gold found naturally is isotope Au-197.

187,000 metric tons historically produced plus current underground reserves of 57,000 metric tons)

gold is “diamagnetic”, meaning that it can be repelled by a magnetic field, but cannot form a permanent magnet.

United States. Tonnes: 8,133.5 in 2020

    China. Tonnes: 1,948.3

The first Gold coins appeared around 700 BC.

An ounce  can be beaten out to 187 square feet (about 17 square metres)

1870s until World War I the gold standard was the basis for the world’s currencies.

Gold was the international monetary system, it came to an end by the 1970s

Gold occurs mostly in the native state, except with telluriumselenium, and bismuth

    ADDED by others

Between about 4-27 micrograms per cubic meter: Micrograms of gold in 1 cubic meter of seawater.

1,400,000,000,000,000,000 cubic meters: the total volume in cubic meters of seawater on Earth

5.6x10^18 - 3.78x10^19: Total micrograms of gold in all seawater on Earth

5,600,000,000,000 - 37,800,000,000,000:  Total grams of gold in all seawater on Earth

180,044,180,784 - 1,215,298,200,000:  Total troy ounces of gold in all seawater on Earth

Dam Aussies wont let me in yet......... bugger all...

Starting from Big Spring TX (dust storm central today) and heading west on I-20 to I-10 then thru New Mexico and im pretty sure I will be slowing down as I go thru AZ-----

then either on to LA via Rand quad or sweep up thru Vegas and on to, tri-tip Luckys Cold Springs Hideout---- then take a left over the pass and on in to Porta-toilet where Sourdough Scott hangs out so i can pick up a jar of relish!!!!!---- next would be a refreshment stop in Quincy area to see a few old mates---- then on the Redding area,  and over the hill to Eureka- then North to Alaska.....

YOU HAVE ALL BEEN FORE-WARNED..... use your due diligence to decide if you want to be in those areas.....hahahahahaha.🤣😂🤠

    Alaska's gain our lost Paul.

Here in Victoria the worst hit by covid19 in Aust. compared to a lot of Country we were lucky but not for the old ones in nursing homes. To-day Victoria has had 2 incubations free of Covid (24 day with no case in the state). The wife and I got the virus shot in the first roll out yesterday for the non essential health workers etc. Aust. is on the way to being immuned with the vaccine in a few months, so keep some leave up your sleeve as Alaska is not suitable for thongs.😀

  5. If it is the same size then it specific gravity is 15.2 gram/centimeter cubed. So my guess is it has more volume than a real ingot. Density of pure metals in that range.

    13.67 g/cc Americium Am 95
    14.78 g/cc Berkelium Bk 97
    15.1 g/cc Californium Cf 98
    15.4 g/cc Protactinium Pa 91
    16.65 g/cc Tantalum Ta 73
    18.95 g/cc Uranium U 92
    19.32 g/cc Gold Au 79

However lets have some hope/fun as 18K yellow D (0.752 gold, copper, silver, zinc, silicon gold has a density of 15.2 and a melt temp of 1520°F. So what are you going to do.😬

  6. F350 I live in a rural area. I found that there is some hidden gems to be found by looking at old parish/shire maps. They show old schools, churches, horse race tracks, town common, picnic grounds and small hamlets that have been lost to history. Some of my maps showed up small farms and their homes, and water wells that have been shallowed up by bigger farms and no visual signs of them. Hope this gives you some help in identifying and pinpointing your opportunities.

Clearly from a diversity standpoint, one of each is preferable.  I guess the argument for two Equinoxes is that it would be easier for you and your wife to 'compare notes' when you are both using the same device.

I like the two of the same, that way if your breaks you can use hers without learning another machine. Remember to tell hers, that her detector is better than yours and go deeper. That way you can save face when she get more targets (gold) than you. 😁

  8. I would put location is well above detector model (80%), then experience with the chosen detector (10%) and finally the brand of detector in your price range. Remember that if you get hooked by the gold bug, you can always up grade to a high price detector, that can be covered with your finds. I have not used an Nox 800 but after picking one up with dealer I know and having a swing of it all I can say is at the end of 10 hour days I would not know how many time my gold yield would have gone up, way back in the 1980 till the PI came out.

  9. That is a POST that should be read by most people who detect. It backs up my experience. I don't discriminate at all with PI machines as junk iron is usually too shallow, if it is deep I'm detecting outside my choice of ground. With VLF machines I always lift the coil to a height that brings the volume down to a low distinct value then discriminate and not over loading the earphones and detector this would help in guessing the size and shape as you mention in the article .................I have one point of your article that needs updating ........ your 5th photo has the Quote "Can a metal detector really find deep, tiny nuggets? Author Gerry McMullen has the answer right at his fingertips! "  Most of us would say that is not tiny these days 😉

  10. I hope this is not off topic. These teeth plates were detected in the sea about 20 years ago buy my brother in law who died in 2004. The 2 oz nugget was found in 1980 in Wedderburn Victoria Australia. Gold plates were commonly made by backyard denticle worker prior to gold coming of the gold standard from gold sovereign.

Gold as an investment is relative to age, if you go back 20 plus years history shows it is wise to hold, if you go back further as I do to when it was $65/oz to todays $2600+/oz (AU) tis a stellar investment. But that is for my era and whether that pans out for the younger generations as Jasong says time will tell. Tis like all our perspectives and attitudes, governed mainly by time. If it doesn`t hurt have a few golden eggs in your basket.

Back in those days home loans hit 17.5% and Vietnam Vet in Aus had loans of 4.5% at the moment House loans are down to less than half of Vet House loans .As the "10% doubles every 7.5 years or 7.5% doubles every 10 years" RULE it would pay to remove debts during high interest rates and buy gold during low interest, that is common sense (or is it uncommon sense🤔) . BUT OUR GOLD has emotional VALVE.😍

  12. I agree with the quote " I have access to stronger acids such as hydrofluoric acid in high concentration form but I advise anyone who would like to use this type of acid that it is extremely dangerous and only someone with experience and safety equipment can proceed with caution when using it."

Back in the early 1980s I was involved with the operation of removal of milling scale on a large boiler. We had several truck loads of hydrofluoric acid  the size of fuel trucks. It was shipped in steel tanks at a strength of 35% how ever it will attack oxides and silica ( glass ) but most important it will get into your skin will little feeling that it has happened and it will then destroy your bones. So correct usage is really needed or its deadly. Products like WHINK in Aust. are used for mag wheel cleaning and it is about 1% and has other chemical included.
