well found one thing I do not like on the 24K, I do not care for the shaft locks, there is some little white pieces on the shaft that goes in a square hole on the shaft under the locking nut that just pops out when you try to lock the locking nut why these are loose I have no clue, kind of a cheap shaft locking system, don't know if the two little white pieces were supposed to be glued in place and were just missed or what, the do not appear to be broken or anything, they appear to just sit under the locking nuts and then you tighten the nut which compresses the white thing to lock the shaft, anyone have any idea's on this

There is a cam that presses the blocks against the shaft so that is doesn't wobble. It has been around for years and works just fine. Jim

As old as I am, I am nearly new to gold field prospecting. I am helping an even older friend re-establish some claims he had 40 years ago in the Northern High Sierras of California. The claim in question has copper, and iron, sulfides next to each other - with free milling micron gold. We have only opened up a short length of the ore body for examination at this time. But, I want to detect along the strike, and hope to find out if there are any gold stringer veins, small pockets of larger than micron gold, or any aspect of significance near the surface. Nothing stands out visually at this time. There is a fair to large amount of iron sulfides in the ore body. The area has had little in the way of hydraulic action from run off. But what the heck, a little exploration never hurt anybody.

So - my question is: Minelab is coming out with the Manticore in 2-3 months and it has a Gold Field feature. I wonder if this will work as well, or better, than the Gold Monster 1000 in our location? If any one has knowledge of the comparison, of knows of, or hears of, a review of the Manticore Gold Field mode vs the Gold Monster 1000 I would really appreciate hearing from you.

There's also an area of ancient river bed, on the side of a hill, that I would like to explore with a detector.

I will be purchasing one, or the other, depending on which will be more capable in our location.

    Thank you.

Look at "Steve's Guide to Gold Nugget Detectors", if you haven't all ready. It may help you decide.  https://www.detectorprospector.com/magazine/steves-guides/steve-guide-gold-nugget-detectors/

Personally, I would go with the Gold Monster 1000. It's easy to use and works great. You won't be sorry!

Hello. I am in search of a couple of XLT LCD displays to replace the ones in my 10 yr old detectors. The appear to work fine but the displays are crap. The backlight appears strong, so it must be one or both of the segment drivers. Currently looking for a good replacement.

You can PM me, if you want.

I bought Snakejim's White's Sierra Pulse Pro from the classifieds and got it this afternoon. It was a great deal and the detector is in fantastic shape and works great.

I owned a beige special edition TDI SL for a while and didn't care much for it.

Somehow, (maybe it's me) the SPP with the Miner Johns folded Mono 9X5 is hitting targets that my TDI SL couldn't hit even after doing a battery mod and I was using a NF Sadie on it most of the time. It's a head scratcher.

This SPP is hitting small gold and lead targets that Deus 2 can't hit!!!! I mean, hitting a .1 gram nugget at 2" depth and a .25 gram nugget at 3" in bad dirt is great in my book on just default settings for a simple detector like this.

Sure it is not as sensitive as many hot detectors like the SDC 2300 and GPX 6000, but it's turn on and go and this one anyway runs very quietly at the default settings and only gets an EMI warble when I turn the gain up past default. So far it is way better and more stable and easier to get running than the QED I had for awhile.

It is super lightweight, EMI resistant enough to use in my backyard and is screaming on 6" deep coin sized targets that most detector miss in my test garden.

This should be a really hot relic detector and a backup PI for the Axiom when it is released.

Thanks Jim for offering it through DP Classifieds.

Jeff, you are most welcome. I very happy it went to a good home and will be appreciated! Best wishes!

Question for Rob, Chris or Steve. Do any of you know why Fisher's Gold Strike never took off and became popular? I got to test one out several years back and it seemed to be a worthy gold machine.

One reason was that the Gold Strike did not have a threshold that we were used to having. We listened for the whispers or faint changes in the threshold to find the dinks.

Here is the July version of Garrett Searcher, some pretty good finds, good to see the old Ace series still popping up good finds regularly around the world, although this version seems dominated by the AT series finds.

    https://garrett.com/sites/default/files/pdf/2021-07/3500097_July_2021.pdf

The last page has the advertisement for the Garrett 24K, I want one!

At the bottom of the last page is the ad for the 24k, and where it says "New" coming soon (Garrett Goldmaster 24k). Left click on that and it takes you to the Garrett web page for the 24k detector. Go down the page until you find the videos. Our buddy Steve H. did them!

  8. Like Jeff, I am also a big fan of Nokta/Makro detectors. Where I hunt nuggets, the Gold Racer is what seems to be my best choice along with the GM1000. The ground is terrible and littered with hot and cold rocks. Most VLF detectors are so noisy they drive me nuts. Pulse works great but most of the gold is so small pulse can't see them. Large nuggets are few and far between.

I don't provide staking services but if you are staking outside of California P.M. me and I can provide you with contacts at reliable staking services.

Inside California I haven't had good experiences with any of the staking services. There are a lot of knowledgeable and experienced people on this forum perhaps another member here knows of a reliable staking service willing to work in California?

If anyone wants to stake a claim in New Mexico, I have been doing it for over 20 years. I usually don't charge a thing. I enjoy doing it.

  10. I am not impressed with the BLM MLRS at all. The maps don't work properly. Also, I sent in a Quitclaim Deed for a transfer of interest in ownership on a claim on Feb.3, 2021. The new owner's name was added to the claim, but the sellers name is still there. I can't use the MLRS to correct this and the BLM says be patient, we will fix it. They haven't yet.

The main thing I wanted, however, was to get the detector tuned for the 3.5" coil. Most people do not know it, but analog Gold Bugs are hand tuned for every coil. The coil they ship with is tuned for the detector, or should I say the detector is tuned for the coil. Accessory coils may or may not be a perfect match if the original coil is swapped out for something else. Long story short is I am asking them to match the detector to the 3.5" coil as well as is possible.

Steve, I have the Fisher Factory repair manuals for the Motherlode 660 and the original Gold Bug. I did repairs and mods on a few of the Gold Bugs for friends. Even built a water proof one in a 1280x box. The tuning of the coils is covered in the manuals and a Ferrite sample was provided. You can have them if you want them.

    Best wishes!

    Hi Guys,

What are you guys using as lanyard for your pinpointer. Regards.

Lanyard? We ain't got no Lanyard. We don't have to show you no stinkin Lanyards! LOL

It would be in my way. Just use a pouch or stick it in a pocket. I hunt nuggets mostly and use a scoop instead of a pin pointer.

How often is it updated, and how accurate is the mining claim Information on land maters?

is there a better more accurate resource for checking on active claims?

    thanks for any info!

The BLM can be up to 90 days behind what is actually claimed. Check with BLM first. Then go to your County Clerk's office and check for claims located in the last 90 days in the area you are interested in. You have 90 days to notify BLM of your new claim.

    Hey guys,

I just joined the group, after hearing about this on facebook.  I'm in the UK and I've been a White's user for 20 years.  I can't get any answers from the UK.  My V3i is in for repair which has been up there since before lockdown started (end of March in the UK)

Does anyone know if I'll be able to get my V3i back or has White's UK pulled the shutters down as well?  I was thinking if the USA can't supply the UK with Detectors, does that mean they wont be able to get parts too?

Thanks anyone who can shed any light

This company is doing repairs since Whites closed their doors:

Who will service the old units?  Can anyone make a business model to keep them alive and make money?

The factory said these folks will do the repairs. I have a GMT that I sent to the factory for repair and it arrived there the same day they sent the email to the dealers saying they were closing. I called and they said they would work about two weeks at the factory then send repairs to these folks.

  16. I spoke to Todd at the factory today, since I have a GMT there for repairs. They will still do repairs for the next 2 weeks; then, if you have a detector that needs repairs you will have to send it to:

I would still call the factory first, just to be safe!
    Best wishes to all!

I just got home, and found out. I wonder if the warranty on my GM24k will still be honored. My 6 x10 is falsing on the right side. Has been ever since new. Tried to live with it, but it was really bad in Nevada, and I decided I needed to send it in. I guess it'll be what it'll be. Sure breaks my heart then they're closing.

    Jim

I'm pretty sure they will take care of you. I sent in a GMT for repairs, and it was delivered to them yesterday. I'll call today to check and see what's happening. We should be ok for a while.

    Important Information from White's Electronics

    June 18, 2020

    To our valued White's Dealers-

This is a very difficult message to write, but the time has come for retirement from White's Electronics.

We are suspending manufacturing operations at our Sweet Home facility while we re-evaluate the future of the company. It is never easy to make these decisions, however, we are faced with the reality of intense competition in the industry and ongoing counterfeit instruments coming from China. Lastly, there have been critical material shortages since the Covid 19 shutdown that we now find insurmountable.

All of us here in Sweet Home are grateful for your service. We consider each you part of the White's extended family.

    Sincerely,

    Ken White
