One of the few hobbies where you can go out and make $300 instead of spending $300...just saying

So true
i used to have horse's.. just for pleasure riding, boy if we still had horse's today.
I don't think we could afford the cost of looking after them anymore

Yes we would still be going out detecting for gold no matter what the gold price was
Its a great outdoor activity hobby, that helps to keep us fit..
i am a shocker when my curiosity gets the better of me, and just have to know whats over that next hill, or around that corner.
P.s meant to add
have tried many other hobbies.. can not get the gold fever out of my hubby, so this is the Hobby that we have never given up on

This picture is of some of my brothers gold.. all found with the GPX5000 and the 14" elite coil
he was going to head over to W.A the year he found all this gold.
Seems his car had other idea's, it kept breaking down on him.
Each time he would fix a problem... the car had another one. He couldn't win. So no W.A trip for him that year
Car did him a huge favour, as he did very well that year in Victoria.
the bigger piece almost weighed in at 20 ounces, (doesn't look it, sure is nice to feel the weight of it ) he dug down through 1 foot of an old timers mullock heap, then still had to dig down another foot into the hard compact dirt, said he nearly gave up, as the hole was hard digging, he couldn't dig anymore, with bleeding knuckles, buggered from shear digging.. he thought I have to find out what this is.. maybe a coke can or a big lump of rust! just as well he didn't give up hey? It could have turned out to one of those story's we read about.
("Big gold find, someone started to dig this hole, as the first foot and an half was filled back in! " )
he had a ball with that coil. Not all the gold came from the same area.

Agree
someone once said to me " the best advise i can give you is walk slowly,
if you can not manage that.
Then tie a something like pantihose round your ankles, that will make you slow down " at the time i thought yes!
Go slow, is the key, the pantihose part i never did!
but i did get the understanding of what he meant.
I have had the same calling GB we would go for a drive, then i would yell " stop!!!
I have a feeling.. gee it paid off plenty of times..
there were plenty of other times, mike and i would say give it an hour with both of us on the ground, if we found nothing we would move on, only to find out later on we missed the gold Don't have to miss it by much
Gold there just wasn't meant for us.
Happy that others had the luck in those places

hi kiwijw (baby bro ) ( i have to start counting backwards with my age )
our son came down of course to wish me happy birthday, he then drops the 17 grammer in my hand, and i look at him.. then with a cheeky smile he drops the bigger one in my hand.. he found them both just last week.
i go " oh is that for me???? ". He laughs and says " nice try mum "
but he is happy enough to share his spot with us..
he did give me a gift, it wasnt gold. But it was something i really liked, and a great big cuddle.

Hi all
son went out the other day down here in Victoria (Aussie) land
In a well detected area.
he was using his gpz7000 with the 19 inch coil, general gold mode and difficult ground mode
he said it was a wirey sort of sound, thought it need to be investigated.
with his pick he scrapped off a layer of dirt, then he said it sounded better..
after digging down 24 inches this is what he was rewarded with.
