Nice finds Enio:smile: Have a great holiday buddy, are you taking a detector? If so what's your poison mate?

No Dave no need to take one.(my mate has 9 of them there -just detect beaches,  some ship wrecks and some interesting old sites)

    He buys them in two:

Hopefully will post some of the finds in couple months.

  2. Hi all

Went for 2 days detecting in our famous Golden triangle.

Had a great time and very enjoyable days.

(Thanks Dave for a memorable detecting trips and for using your 2300- i will be back:smile:)

I used 2300 and first day managed to get 3 and second day another 5. All together 1.25 grams of beautiful Aussie gold.

This will be my last trip for a very long time as in 2-3 weeks  am going for a holidays. (5-6 months)

Wish you luck and hopefully will post some finds of different kind from Europe soon.

  3. When i started detecting i never lost a sight of my car.I never detected alone and most of the time with a few detecting friends.

Was not really comfortable to wander around. Nevertheless to say i was very limited to finding gold.

Then i bought Bushnell backtracker. Well i was off few hundred meters sometimes even kilometer from the car.

Works perfect for me for area i detect.99% of time we use radios as well and i never detect alone.

( for Dave to put on his list of my things in backpack i also have gps ).

Never used it but it is there just in case.

I am completely care free detecting around and as i detect in Victorian goldfields its hard to get lost.

My detecting mate always tells me it is impossible to get lost in Victorian goldfields and i replied not to underestimate me.

It must be horrifying feeling that moment you think i am lost.

i am quite prepared just in case carrying many spare things  in my backpack name few:

night headlamps x2, lighter, spare batteries, etc.My back backpack also hold 3 liters of water.

( for WA that probably not enough for 2 hours on a hot day).

I m sure if i get in real danger my army training survivor skills will kick in.

    But thats another story.

We all well know getting lost is just beginning of many potential dangers.

Finding way back is one thing,  survive day  or few is in unfamiliar territory is another.

I know we all see it a nice hobby, walking,  get out, maybe find a gold.

Maybe new comers  n this  hobby  should read carefully some post and get prepared properly.

Even our ministers get lost sometimes:

This is a story with happy ending.

Many in goldfields of WA are not.

    Take care and stay safe.

  4. That is absolutely not acceptable.

Not that just have moral duty but tour operators as a business have duty of care.

It so so hard in group of 10-20 to take and dispose that type of rubbish after the party is over.

If there was a room in a cars to take all that packages full sure it is to take them home empty.

i love this hobby and i love nature and all creature created to be there. They all have a role to play and they were put there for a reason.

These people dont love noone.I wish they get fined and made go back to clean up their mess.

    Very disappointing.

  5. Hi Iscavezmisc

its only a matter of time you get a piece of gold and many after that.

Just play around proven gold fields- places where u find gold all the time sluicing.Places of old goldfield diggers.

Bedrocks, surfaced area etc.you will get gold with this detector  for sure.

    Good luck with it.

I use to own a 2300....found a small piece of iron in a Victoria Goldfield well over a foot down....I was initially surprised by how deep  I was digging.......and then of course disappointed as the initial target was so mellow....thought for sure it was gold....((

    Hej nugetWill

if you could detect a small piece of metal foot deep with 2300 thats the best detector ever made.

    I wish u kept it. I know i would.

  7. I never detect alone and dont feel comfortable to be in the bush alone.

For me socializing hobby and 99% of time i go with another mate.We go in different directions but not too far.Have radios to communicate and i have couple mobiles phone with different provider just in case to have phone signal.

I could maybe contemplate to detect close to road and in surfaced  area with 2300.

i dont find it enjoyable to detect alone.

We detect, have lunch, call each other if any interesting signal and in general enjoy detecting.

Stay safe and its good idea to let someone where you are detecting if you heading alone.

    Hi GolDen ,

Nice to see all the crumbs , I have just under 20 grams and love getting it with the SDC .

I rarely skunk out maybe one in twenty detects , there's so much small gold on the ground as you obviously know . I get the majority of my gold all within 10 k's of my home , which is Dunolly . Waiting patiently to see the Minelab Monster 1000 . Hopefully a few good reports eventuate and I'll buy one for my wife . All the best mate and take care .

    Cheers

there is no gold in Dunollyyyyyyyyyyyy

  9. I met John Gladdis few times.

I was privileged to meet cream of the cream of pioneers and one of the most succesfull operators in Victoria/Australia in Laanecorrie Bash.

I also have my  detector set up by John in 3 modes -for quiet mind and hot ground.

On one of training days in Goldfields of Dunnolly he set up  my detector and told me he never changes settings just sit h to these 3 different modes.

Was also told  he was impressed with my detecting (found only nugget for a day in quite red hot ironstone ground).

Predicted I will find 100 ounce.

I don't like to disappoint people but there is not many people who found it with detector but I will do my best.

It might not happen in goldfields of Australia buy most likely somewhere in Mediterranean sea.

These people like John are not just great prospectors but ultimate fun to be around and listen to them.  Such an amazing souls and great ambasadors for our hobby and our country.

Thanks for your contribution and great coils. There is not coincidence he liked me.

I found the biggest nugget with his coil.

14 inch mono round terracotta coil .

And thanks Phoenix cos without you it would not happened.

  10. For newbies or novice check that your detector is not  set  in  Cancel mode.

    I found this hard way.

Well first ever time I went detecting I hired GPX5000. Knowing absolutelly nothing about gold and detecting generous mate set up my detector. Thanks Sean.

Sure enough after half an hour I had my first ever nugget half grammar in now famous Laanecoorie bash goldfield somewhere In German gully.

I was amazed how machine was quiet I had to check few times if it was on.  And it was.

That afternoon after lunch I was so keen to go again and 3 of us went again for few hours. Sure my machine was so quiet I happily detected so keen.

Once I came close to my car and realize machine doesn't really hear much.

It was nice couple hours detecting in cancel thanks to my new mates.

(It was afternoon prank and at least I learned  something that day)

So if your machine is exceptionally quiet please check your panels.

If is all good and there is not any noise you are not detecting in Australia ?

I also like to ground balance my machine every few steps.

One of best tips I got is learn ur machine the best you can. Instead of using automatic frequency button take time and practice with a gold nugget every single frequency starting from 1 to the end. Move up one at time and check response again. The one which  best respond keep detecting in it.

It might take u couple hours to go through all of them but I think is time well spent.

Not all detectors are same and not all perform the best and same in same settings.

Clean up your coils regularly. Take plate and clean them properly and re- tape them.

  11. I wish i am good with detecting like i am with fishing,.

Maybe been born on island has to do with it.Give  me a hand line and i will never be hungry in my life,

Give me a detector and i would not survive for  long.

I always believe its  is a person behind detector.Still you need a good tool to do the job.

And agree you have to be in a gold (fish zone) or you are wasting time.

I think most of average detecting people (myself included) know 5% of our machine capabilities.(same like we know about our mobile phones).

Maybe because we do not take it so serious, maybe cos its just a great hobby to relax and escape work and city and maybe because simple we dont have to..

Detecting is a journey not a destination.Probably because you  will never stop once you reach you goal or target. You will need more(hence gold fever). So journey continues......
