Nice, that's the kind of site I enjoy detecting! If any of thsoe are San Francisco minted, could be good news.

There's a few crackpots on Dankowski, I think shoveler hates everyone, he's blasted just about everyone on there before, and may have had a time-out as I haven't seen him on there lately and a big thread where he got pretty nasty was deleted, first time I've ever seen a thread on Dankowski forums deleted, their all about freedom of speech and all that.
But I understand what you're saying about Carl, hopefully Carl is working on their Equinox killer, I don't see a need for a PI in my detector inventory, unless I'm wrong, maybe I do need one?-

I know Carl (Geotech) lurks on most of these forums, but I'm surprised he hasn't uttered a word about the Fisher Impulse.....

Cal,
The weight of my Minelab Equinox 800 on the "Golden Mask collapsible carbon fiber Equinox shaft" with the 11" coil attached is 3 lb 1.8 oz.
I weighed it 3 times same weight each time.
Best of luck,
Gerry
That's only a couple of ounces more then the stock setup, probably not even noticeable.
Thanks for weighing it, appreciate it. I may have to get one of these, I like the ability to put it in a backpack. -
I've been pretty impressed with it. Obviously it's not the best option for heavy iron, but I was able to pluck two seated dimes and a barber dime out of a hard worked sea of nails and bullet shell area, which impressed the heck out of me ?

Dan I don't know if you have the Equinox 15" coil, but I did well with it at one of my pounded to death relic sites the first time out with it. Just a thought....

Cal,
i'd have to disassemble everything to do a comparison weight between the two... I should have maybe thought of doing that first off but I didn't. I can tell you, I, myself, didn't notice a discernible difference in weight between the two shafts.
Gerry
Hi Gerry,
Would you happen to know the weight assembled with the factory 11" coil? Then we could compare it to the advertised weight from Minelab.
Thanks,
Cal-

Hi Strict,
Beautiful places to detect, love just getting out to those scenic historical sites, the finds are icing on the cake ?
Great spots, black powder flasks, buckles, and seateds, doesn't get better than that on the west coast.
Congrats to your friend on the seated quarter! That 1918 over 1917 SLQ is a great find! Probably not what you're looking for at gold rush era camps, but I'd take it any day ?
The sunray thing is pretty cool, not sure what exactly it is though. That buckle you found with the nipple in the center, I found something similar to that recently, do you think that's a horse tack buckle?
That rectangular metal item next to the license plate tag I believe may be a scale weight. Does it have any writing on it? I found one, and I believe it was marked with the weight in grams, it was ID'd as an apothecary weight, but they were more likely using it to weigh gold IMO.
Congrats again on saving so much history!

Gentlemen, Although I'm happy with the factory rod setup, I like this collapsible rod, perfect for a backpack.
I just had one question, is this setup lighter or more heavy then the original Minelab setup? Apologies if this was already answered, but I didn't see it.
Thanks,
Cal-

Tones and the more of them is what I call "Music to the ears".
While I agree this is true when it comes to Minelabs, I've seen other detector vendors try to add "99 tones/delta pitch/fill-in-the-blank)" tones to their detectors, but the audio they convey is harsh and digital sounding, whereas Minelab has proven itself to be able to give us smoother, analog like audio which is more pleasing to the ears. My point being that just more tones, doesn't always equate to better audio intelligence, sometimes it equates to audio fatigue.

Bayard there's several discussions here where Equinox owners have converted to other rod systems, including a S-rod conversion. DId you see those?
Oddly I find it to work fine, but ergonomics is an individual thing, like when I had the Impact, I thought it was an ergonomic mess (would make my thumb go numb if I hunted all day long, never had that experience with any other machine), but then again others felt it was great, so it's definitely an individualized experience.

At Yorktown we fought back with a French army - our oldest ally. There is a memorial at yOrktown to the 600 French soldiers and sailors who lost their lives in the cause of American freedom at Yorktown and the naval battle of the Virginia Capes which made the siege of Yorktown a success.
Yes without the aid of the French, we'd still be a British colony.
I have nothing against the French, I've been to France many times, it's one of my favorite places to holiday (and arguably the best food on the planet)....my point is let's give credit where credit is due. Fisher didn't design the electronics, they may have designed the physical package, may have tidied up the electronics a bit, but they bought the electronic design. Nothing wrong with that, we live in a global economy, our history, past and present is chalked full of foreign technology being realized in the U.S., acquisitions are common place.
I'm sure it'll be a fine detector, but I'm a bit disappointed that with all the engineering horsepower at FTP, of all the American companies they couldn't design something on their own.

Looks like the Americans are fighting back, this can only mean good things for everybody. Some healthy competition is always welcome. I've always pinned my hopes on Fisher.
I will be watching with a keen eye at their new gold detector.
The Americans are fighting back with a French designed detector ?

I agree Cal. Mine would recovery super fast almost Equinox fast. I hope the wife enjoys her new detector. Good luck!
Sadly I've only been able to get her to a couple of tot lots LOL
I don't think she has the patience required for detecting, if gold rings were jumping out of the ground she''d love the hobby, but given their hard to find, she doesn't seem too enamored with it (yet).

Steve did you see the new MDT-8000 hybrid detector Dankowski was involved with that was just released?
I was on the sign up list to get one of the first ones, but I talked myself out of it because I just don't beach hunt that often and I don't think I need anything like it for relic hunting sites. Still, seems to be slaying it at the beach. -

.... I see a note in your video it may be 13 - 14 kHz?
If true, makes me wonder if this is based on a Racer2 platform? A lightweight, submersible R2 would be a great detector IMO, especially given the entry level pricing!

Nice digs, love that old ring! Those mercs look like they've been out there a long time.

There was a lengthy discussion about war nickles on the dankowski forum and it was concluded that during the war time there were significant variances from the typically noted 35% silver, 9% manganese, and 56% copper composition. San Francisco was a major contributor to WW2 building ships, subs, munitions, etc., so I don't doubt that there were times the mint simply couldn't stick to the formula due to war time needs.

Hey Tom,
I haven't seen that yet, but I just started using it a few weeks ago, so good to know. Batteries and chargers can do some odd things sometimes.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure to make sure things are charging, nothing worse than getting into the field and having down equipment.

Cool, thought maybe after the initial outcry of no included charger that perhaps Minelab was now including one. ?
BTW I've also heard of the issue you stated being resolved with a higher powered charger, kind of odd that if it's lower amperage that it wouldn't just take longer to charge, but there seems to be something to it.

I wound up using another tip that I read somewhere; it said to 'shock' the earbuds by plugging them into high quality chargers (I used what came with the Equinox). That is what I did and when the earbuds were fully charged, they paired and worked just fine. The same with the wireless headphones. Go figure...
So a slightly false alarm...I will take it down Steve if it is not useful
Confused, as the Equinox doesn't come with a charger (only USB charging cables)??
I use both an iPad charger and I recently purchased this gem so I can charge more then one item at a time:3 Port Quick Charge 3.0 USB Fast Travel Wall Charger Adapter, QC3.02.0 Smart Ports 30W Travel Wall Fast Charger Adapter Charging Block Plug
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JJCJ3CQ/This works awesome and it has two 2.4A USB ports, and one Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Technology USB port.

I can tell you from experience on running 5kHz on both my Makro Multi Kruzer as well as my EQ800 that 5kHz is the most EMI affected frequency I've ever used when detecting. No idea if that factors into your scenario, but just a thought.
