  1. .1 gram at 2 inches with the gpx 5000? i was using find gold settings

It has a lot to do with the shape of the gold.

You could have a .1g nugget that is fairly round and solid, that your 5000 might struggle to hear.  That same .1g nugget flattened out would instead give a nice distinct signal.  There are many variables, shape being one that is very important.

The nugget being solid versus crystalline is another factor.  If the gold is 'spongy' the detector will have a harder time hearing it.

The level of gain you are able to run in your particular soil is another factor.

Which timing are you running?  Another factor.

With a small coil, you should be able to get .1g 'nugs' at a couple inches in moderate conditions.

  2. i purchased a gpx 5000 , what is the smallest gold expected to find with it? right now i can see a .3 nugget 3 inches away with small 10x5 coil. i guess my question what is the smallest piece should i be able to find and what settings are best, another thing my detector will see .3 of gold it screams .3 of lead it will not register.

Concentrics are VLF, mono coils are PI coils. So for a VLF we have concentrics and DD coils. For PI there is mono and DD. A mono coil has a single winding that alternates between transmit and receive modes of operation. A concentric still has two coils, a transmit and a receive coil, one arranged inside the other.

Any coils that work on any of the old black box Goldmasters starting with the Goldmaster II will work on the GMT. That includes the original concentric "Longscan" coil.

I love that coil, works hotter than the french micro shooter

I bought two yesterday and interestingly, coil covers for it were difficult to find at White's. Apparently this coil which has been around for a while for export to Africa, never saw a demand for a protective loop cover. Further investigation led me to believe that the African placer miners are very superstitious and believe coil covers to be "bad luck"......I'm not kidding!

I can't wait to compare it (on my GMT) to my GB2 on bedrock.

My hunch is that this coil will breath new life into the Goldmaster series and I'm glad.

ak mining has covers if need I have one for my gmt hit better than the dd 4x6 air test
