I can assure you Steve I'm a huge fan of the equinox! I think it's the best thing since sliced bread! Minelab on the other hand well you know....

Moreover, being 45 years old, I don't see any evidence of corporations being any more or less "greedy" than they were 100 years ago. The thing that has changed in a HUGE way though, is how we access favor, credibility, and relationship with those we want something from. Sure, 50 years ago, the person at the front of the line for blessings was the guy whose wife baked a pie for the pastor every week. Now, its the person who comments the most/best on his Facebook page.

That said, I get it. I too am an impatient consumer regarding this particular product. I also wish my local dealers were on the Christmas cards list of the president of Minelab, but that just isn't the case.

The next logical observation is, "OK... So why doesn't Amazon and WalMart have an allocation then?" My guess is they buy in bulk and carry inventory. That means that Minelab gives them a "bulk discount", to store at their individual warehouses, making less profit. In other words, sure Walmart carries X-Terra's, but probably orders 10 at a time from Minelab once every 3 years, with a 35% profit margin. Cabela's on the other hand is a drop shipper, likely only making a 10% margin for simply taking an order, and NOT carrying inventory. Thus Minelab makes its max profits via Cabela's, matched with a history of Cabela's having the most sales in this particular genre of detectors.

In the end, I believe Minelab will indeed stock your Big Boy's, Kellyco's, etc., they just simply chose to launch what I believe to be a very limited inventory at this point, with the company that made the most business sense. So, it's not Minelab per sey, just the relationship individual dealers have with Minelab given a currently limited inventory. 

I want to thank you for your lengthy explanation of corporate greed! I've been in this Hobby off and on for 45 years... I guess I was just remembering the days when the manufacturers had somewhat of a relationship with the consumers. And from what I know Minelab is the most hated manufacturer! That has no loyalty to their customers (dealers) by allowing Cabela's to sell machines that were already spoken for!

That might be the time to order so you can have it in 7 days instead of waiting until the end of March

Yep they are being drop shipped from Minelab, the Dealer's better take note! The first step of elimination!

So how many did Cabela's get? While all the pre-order dealers got 3 at most!

That's exactly how minelab has made me feel....

Minelab has my mind but they'll never have my heart! 

On the video I watched this morning that got deleted the guy talked to the Minelab service center and one of the first things they asked him to do was a total reset back to factory preset... he also said they told him they keep extra units in case there's any problems so they'll be a fast turn around!

Norm, if I got a copy of the receipt would you believe it? Or would you just say it's fake? I know for a fact  where 8  equinoxes  were delivered all bought  from Cabela's and 6 to one guy that doesn't include  the three the previous poster mentioned  so that makes 11  Cabela's got out of the first batch that I know of! Give me six equinoxes and I guarantee you I'll get 1200 a piece for them!! 

I ordered mine 5 months ago and was patiently waiting until I seen Cabela's selling them to people on the internet who never got in line!

If I was a dealer I'd be extremely pissed off that Minelab was selling to Cabela's before my pre-orders were filled! I bet probably 75 to 90% of the sales Cabelas makes takes money out of the dealers pockets because pre-ordered guys that are sick of waiting are going to try and buy them off Cabelas and then cancel their orders with a dealer! Just my two cents worth!

I was just reading another forum a guy they're ordered 3 from Cabelas so that makes 14! if I can find 14, I wonder how many they got? I forgot the mental detectorists I think is his name got his from Cabelas also so that makes 15

This would the second one I've heard of with this problem... there was a video on YouTube this morning but it's gone now.

GB the guy ordered 6 online and got them some time last week...

As far as I'm concerned all the dealers prepaid order should have been filled before anyone else gets any units!

But I guess they already have our money so why not try and get some more right?

I just confirmed with a friend up north that a guy bought six of them from Cabela's and is reselling them for a profit......

It kind of makes me sick to my stomach! I've been waiting over 5 months pre-ordered prepaid....

This speculation is ridiculous Minelab should just come out and tell us how many are coming and when!
