    Randy,

Did your adapter work with the WM08 ok?

    Mitchel

    Hello Mitchel

Yes it works spot on and I have used it now for the past 7 weeks when I am out at least once a week for each session 8 hours long, the 3.5mm jack plug clicks home perfectly.

I have put an ebay link for the same seller who I bought from but you can use the description as a guide to what the patch adapter looks like and in USA they shouldn't be much over a dollar.

Great finds Randy! You can bet most people on this forum are both jealous and amazed by the age of the finds you make so regularly. My trip to the U.K. the first coin I dug was a 1700s copper, older than any coin I had found before by 150 years. The guy I was with said "a greenie - I just toss them in the ditch!" I did not do that of course but after a couple weeks I understood the sentiment. It's just amazing that 14th and 15th century finds were daily kind of stuff, and B.C. type finds not all that uncommon.

Congratulations Steve on one hell of a detecting report and I hope the forum members have a browse through it

    My trip to the U.K.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your visit to the UK and you can imagine what it is like for myself when I am out a couple of times each week in this detecting environment.

    Ran Dee!

Good report.  It indeed would be interesting to hunt in an area like yours.

Your low recovery speed must make them really sing when you go over them.

Had you hit this permission before you had your 800?

    Mitchel

    Hello Mitchel

Yes I have been detecting all of the fields in the same vicinity for many years now, getting on towards 20 years and the whole area is rich in Roman occupation and Roman roads passing through, over the years I have had literally 100's and 100's of Roman coins many of them silvers and also two Roman Gold Aureus  my avatar is one of them an Aureus of Nero 65 - 66 AD. I have also had a lot of Roman artifacts.   Thanks very much for your interest in my post.

  4. On Sunday 25th March I returned to one of my permissions where I have found Roman bronze coins in the past few weeks using my Equinox and on this occasion I ended up with 24 and one of them was a large silver but badly mangled most of the bronzies are 10mm - 14mm across.

The Roman bronze coins are on the small size and are difficult to locate even though this field is low in mineralization it has quite a lot of small iron about which is typical of sites of past Roman occupation and this was my 4th 8 hour session on my Roman fields using my Equinox since I got it almost 6 weeks ago.   As I always do I "Noise Cancel" and use "Manual Ground Balance" with "Recovery Speed 3" and "Iron Bias 3" and if the field is quiet I try to keep the "Sensitivity at 20 - 22", over the previous weeks I have used different settings but found these to be most beneficial for getting the maximum depth and more Roman coins.

  5. I strongly suggest that some of you guys read the Equinox Manual Page 51 as it proves all along what "Nuke em" is saying is 100% correct that using a higher "Recovery Speed" influences a detection depth reduction.

    Page 51 Equinox User Manual.

EQUINOX 600 has 3 Target Recovery Speeds, and EQUINOX 800 has 8 recovery speeds.
Recovery Speed adjustment is local; only the current Detect
Mode Search Profile will be affected by changes to this setting.
While using a higher target Recovery Speed may increase the
ability of the detector to find difficult targets, it also results in
reduced Target ID accuracy and less detection depth.

    Swing Rate
A good general swing rate is around 2-3 seconds from right-toleft-
to-right. A higher Recovery Speed generally allows for a faster
swing rate with less likelihood of missing targets.
A higher Recovery Speed, for the same swing rate, will help to
reject ground noise, but also decrease detection depth. A lower
Recovery Speed, for the same swing rate, will increase detection
    depth
    , but may increase noise.

They dont have a machine , i think the second batch hasn't turned up yet and all machines go straight out the door .

When i say low volume i am saying many targets seem deep when they are shallow . On the first outing it was high recovery setting but yesterday it was a bit better at 3 setting . But all sound settings are at max i think .

I will get a new 705 and see how they compare in sound but i know they are higher toned even if they are the same tones .

A lot of the targets are to low in the pattern , Pound coins come in at 21 to 23 but on the Terra they were / are 32 . Low denomination coins seem very quiet compared to what they were on the Terra .

But anyway when i have finished watching a film (Taken 2 ) i will have a browse on the machine and see what else i can change .

Thank God for factory resets !

    Richard

All of the answers you are looking for are there in the manual (ie) "Tone Volume" Page 43,  "Target Tone" Page 46 & "Tone Pitch" Page 47.

Try Target Tone 2 on page 46  then on Page 47 set your "Tone Pitch" as follows TONE 1 (T1) reduce to 1 (Number 1) this covers all of the ferrous and produces next to no sound for small ferrous items,  then Click on the Accept / Reject button \//X to move forward to TONE 2 (T2) increase the Tone Pitch to 25 this is very high.

Then revert to Page 43 "Tone Volume" (Advanced Setting) this is where you turn the volume right up for the two separate TONES 1 & 2  (25 is full whack) and again using the \//X button to move from Tone 1 to Tone 2.

    Randy,

You have done a better job of writing what I experienced with the Equinox.  What is very true is that all signals seem to be of the same intensity which is quite unlike the 3030 and SE Pro which I will compare this to.  I have found some beach gold and was impressed with its depth on that coil.  Your depths in Field 1 and 2 are similar but you do have to 'listen hard' in order to just go for a dig.

My learning curve is great also because of the total dissimilarity to the 3030.  Everything from the button combinations to the sounds and ground balance procedure requires thought and some reading.  I'm still so new to it that it is like a new language.  I try to imagine if I would be finding more or less with the other detectors.

    Mitchel

    Hello Mitchel

You have hit the nail on the head saying the Equinox "Speaks A New Language".

As I am almost totally deaf I need to wear my hearing aids under my headphone cups so as to make sense of the signal tones and volume so yesterday Monday 26th Feb I spent a few hours trial and testing the various Tone, Pitch & Volume settings and now I think I have achieved the audio response more suitable for my hearing situation, quite remarkably I got my Searcher metal detecting magazine through the post yesterday and in it was an article by our leading UK tester Gordon Heritage and in it he described how to set the Equinox Tones to be almost identical to the Minelab CTX 3030 I am sure Gordon will eventually get around to putting these settings on his ( MLO ) Minelab Owners Forum, he already has put up another of his User Profile search modes and called it his "Killer Program".   All information from the likes of Gordon and Steve on here helps us to form a better understanding much quicker and to make some early in roads to getting the desired results from the Equinox without too much trial and error experimenting when we are out there finding the goodies sooner rather than later.  All in the learning curve.

    Good Hunting  -  Randy Dee.

  8. On Sunday 25th February 2018.
My first session out with the Equinox using Field 1 & 2 and the finds were quite mixed I found a slither of gold but I don't have a clue what it is off maybe off a watch strap I also had a nice Hammered Silver farthing of Henry 7th, a Victoria silver sixpence, 4 Roman bronzies 3 of which are Minums and a coin slightly smaller than a copper farthing I can't make out what it is.
This last week I have been doing quite a bit of setting the Equinox up on my test bed and I thought I had it how I wanted it but when I got on the field I soon found out that I had jumped the gun as I started to get ground chatter and a slow reactivity so I had then to start from scratch and the machine was then coping well with the new settings and I started to pull out a lot of non-ferrous crap the good finds were giving repeatable signals but I will have to change all of the default "Tone Pitch's" and Volumes as they are not suitable for my lugs, I was using my GOG Headphones on the WM08 wireless module.

I don't do a lot of screen watching but this being the first real session with the Equinox I kept looking at all of the signals to try and get an identity check of the signals in the grey matter, the slither of gold was hitting 8 but repeatable and was around 6" deep the small hammered silver was hitting 16 - 17 and again about the 6" mark, the Victoria sixpence came through on a solid 25 and was around 9" deep, the Roman minums and the larger copper coin were again giving repeatable signals between 16 - 20.
I would almost certainly say that the CTX, the Etrac and the Deus would have got these coins, but with the Equinox it is early days and I feel sure that there is a lot more to be got from this machine. The biggest shock I got was when I got a good solid repeatable signal of 16 and I had to dig a deep hole and at 12" deep I kept thinking it has to be something non-ferrous and it was when I was poking about with the probe in the bottom of the 12" deep hole that I found a 1" ferrous steel screw and I thought that I must have something else down there in the hole but no nothing else, I will have to get better acquainted with the "Iron Bias" settings.
There has to be a big learning curve with this machine because the signal responses and settings are nothing like the CTX or the Etrac or the Deus and most of the signals are of the same volume strength in my ears very soft and could be louder and before my next session I will setup the tones differently to get a better pitch and individual volumes as well.

I am stone deaf and suffer from Tinitus and am blessed in having to wear my hearing aids under my headphones and when I first used the Equinox I found the same as you the signal sounds were poor even with the volume on the headphones wound right up and I then discovered the answer to my problem.

Press the "Settings" button and scroll along the menu bar until you come to the Icon for "Volume Adjust" then press the plus (+) button to turn the volume up from the default 20 to 25 and it will blow your lugs off.

    Hi Nuke em,

I see you are from the UK. Just wondered who you pre ordered your machine from to get it as quick as that. I ordered mine from joan allen on 28 th october but have heard nothing yet. Any how have a good hunting session with it . I am looking forward to hitting the pasture fields out here in west Yorkshire with it.

    Regards Mick

    Hello Michael

I ordered mine with Crawfords the back end of September 2017 while Craig was setting up his stall at Detectival and I was then 10th on the pre-order list and got my Equinox on Wednesday 21st February and as Crawfords are the UK distributor there was only 11 for his own customers on this delivery all the rest went to the UK dealers.

  11. Here in the UK we have a similar moaning and groaning about the blank out from Minelab with product availability information and on one of our British forums I reacted with the following post and please remember that my post is directed to our UK brethren.

    =================================================================

Minelabs Marketing Strategy and My Theory Is.

I don't think it is a case of being fobbed off about when the Equinox will arrive, I blame the marketing strategy of Minelab as they haven't just kept the end user in the picture they haven't divulged much information through the distribution and dealership network .

The Equinox is so far advanced of any other metal detector that the whole world metal detecting fraternity is wanting their hands on one.

Minelab did make a statement early in October that the expected release date would be late January and they are not a kick in the arse after that and we are just in the first few days of February.

And the reason that the distributors are not able to give much information out is because they have not been given the reason from Minelab.

I honestly believe the delay problem is the result of logistic problems as with such a high quantity to ship out to nearly every country in the world and the only logic method of dispatching such a high volume is by sea cargo, I don't even think that any airline would accommodate this type of high volume of cargo and if they did it would be at a massive cost which would be passed on to the end user,

Another factor to consider is the fact that trading with a none EU country would encounter customs involvement which is a further delay.

As we now know that Minelab did send a small shipment to many countries by airmail possibly just to relate to their promise of January / February release date and these few detectors will be delivered by this coming Monday & Tuesday and remember that the dealers are only getting these detectors in the single numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and the sea shipments will be a further wait of 2 or 3 weeks.

I am very anxious to get my hands on the Equinox but at present I will just have to sit back and wait like everyone else and be patient but with a bit of luck I might be in the lucky few as I am near the top of the pre-order list..

  12. The reason that I am going for the Equinox is to put it to use on Roman fields where there has been past habitation.

I have some great permissions here in the UK which has rewarded me with some beautiful Roman Gold , Silver and Bronze coins over the years and it is my intention to use my Equinox to scour over these permissions to see what else I can bring home.

Here below is some of the better ones, I have many many more.

  13. The true meaning of Coke here in the UK is better known as cinders or partially burnt coal and which is the ashes from coal burning home fires and were used in the old toilets (Middens) where the ashes were sprinkled on human waste in the dry closets to keep fly's off the poo, these middens were shoveled out once a week and taken to the local farms for manure to be spread on the fields, another source of coke is from the ash pans of the ancient steam engines which were used to pull an agriculture plough (Plow In USA) and for driving threshing machines and baling machines.

  14. Our UK Minelab Distributor "Crawfords" has published the following information on his website.

As UK distributor for Minelab, we are pleased to announce that Minelab will be making announcement re the release of the Minelab Equinox on their website on Friday 2nd February at 10.am (Aus time - 11.30pm Thursday night GMT).

  15. Hello Steve

"A BIG Thank You" for persevering in giving as much information you were able to hand out about the Equinox it is like I said when I first came onto your forum it was a breath of fresh air to come to a civilized place where there was no squabbling and trolling, it was great to see the input from all of your subscribers, at our side of the big pond the metal detecting forums were awash with obscenities and negative back biting over the Equinox  mostly from protective users of other makes of detectors.

    Good Hunting
