  1. Thank you guys for your help,  yeah no wireless headphones with the Deus either Jeff. I am thinking I might get the new ORX with the 9 HF round and wireless phones... I also get the 5 year warranty which is a bonus if something goes wrong.

Thanks again for your help guys:)

What coil are you  getting with the used Deus package?  If it is one of the legacy (i.e., pre-X35) style Black LF coils your best bet is to go with a new ORX package.  If you are getting a white HF coil or an X35 coil, then that sounds like a good deal provided the coil size is big enough to give you tge desired depth and/or swing coverage.  The reason being, the HF coils or X35 coils can be operated at least as high as 25 khz whic is a sweet spot frequency for gold and/or mid-conductive relics (e.g., brass and lead).  The maximum frequency the old legacy black LF coils can be operated is 18 khz.  It makes a difference.

Thanks Chase, the deus comes with the HF eliptical coil, I also noted that the HF coils can go down to around 15khz so that would be low enough for some areas and targets I hunt. But like you said the 25khz spot is where I think I would most likely use it. Some places I have hunted with the NOX I have had to turn off M/F and just use 20 -40 khz as the ground was just so noisy and the machine worked wonders on single Freq in that particular area.

  3. HI Jeff, the Deus has the elliptical HF coil with it, it also has the remote control and no headphones. I was thinking maybe getting the round 9 HF for the ORX if I go that way. Our coins ring in pretty high, at least the old silver and copper coins do anyway. Our decimal coins 1 and 2 dollars come in around 20-22 on the NOX.

  4. Gday guys, I have the opportunity of buying a used Deus for a little less than a new ORX. I have been mulling over this for weeks, does anyone have any advice. I really only want an XP to be able to put it into a backpack, trek into the bush and use it for relic hunting, and a little gold here and there. The warranty factor is something that is swaying me towards the new ORX machine...but I know the Deus has many more features and options. I already have a Equinox 800 for beaches, coins and relic's but I am just wanting something easier for a few locations where I want to travel in stealth wise.

So pretty much the question I am asking what would you do, Buy a S/Hand Xp Deus or Buy a new Xp ORX with the desired coil (round hf coil) and Warranty.

    cheers guys.

  5. Just wondering guys, It just seems that FE-2-0 would be using a very limited filtering system, but by moving it up to FE-2-4 would have been a more accurate result and comparison between FE2 and FE modes.

I have been doing some backyard testing here and I really like the FE-2-4 an a Swing/Speed of 6, it seems to run very nicely in my test garden.

edit: Thanks for posting the Video Steve.

  6. Top information again guys... look forward to seeing how yours turn out as well DukeBoxer and thanks for the link. Thinking about the locking pin I will drill a couple of holes (3 or 4) as I want to use in the surf as well. NSC how is yours going is it much better do you think, I image it would be though.

Would you say that I could make this rod without using the pin holes and just slide the lower rod into the carbon fiber rod to the height I want and then tighten it down or do you feel the pin holes are necessary?

I have been wondering the same thing, I also received my plugger locks yesterday I will have to grab a shaft next.

  8. Thanks NSC,  my son is a fitter so I am hoping he may be able to help me with the actual final building of the carbon shaft. He is a very busy person and doesn't have much time to himself anymore so most times I just go it alone and use trial and error.

I am pretty much retired now so have plenty of time to play around with little projects and look forward to the challenge. I will definitely be using a drill press though to try and get it as close as possible.

    Happy Hunting:happy:

I pulled the cover of my coil for the first time today to clean, and was amazed at how much sand can creep into it while attached to the coil!

Yes there is a fair bit hey, I just took mine apart and cleaned it all up from a small beach hunt yesterday. Got to admit I am pretty fussy when I clean my detectors they have a lovely bath in warm soapy water followed by a blow dry lol.

  10. Hey thanks guys, I did read the thread that Steve posted and contacted Minelab, but they said they had no knowledge of the fault and were pretty much oblivious to what I was trying to explain. So after a couple of return calls they said they would have a look at it, thats if I want to send it back in (2000km) my expense of course. The Anderson's Shaft look like a good alternative and rock solid by your reports think I might try and get one of them instead.

One of the design features I really like about the factory shaft is its 3 piece construction...easily broken down and packed for travel.  However, if that proves to be the source of wobble, the travel advantage isn't really an acceptable feature.

The Anderson shaft looks to be 2 piece...not as easily packed but not as susceptible to wobble I would guess.

I have a fair deal of wobble on mine on the top joint knuckle, the arm cuff is very wobbly as well. I am seriously looking at one of these shafts but as you said the standard one is good for travel which is a big plus for me. But if the anderson's takes out the dreaded wobble I think I might spring some coin for one.
