Did you use a sluice before panning?
I just classified down to quarter inch in a 5 gallon bucket then panned it out with my favorite pan the Garrett super sluice gold pan. When I got down to the cons it went into my Estwing finishing pan that's in the pic for final panning.

Did you use surfactant (such as Jet-dry) to break the surface tension? (I'm assuming it's safe to the local environment....)
Always good to see gold recovered as long as the planet is respected, whether with the fanciest detector or the simplest pan. Thanks for sharing and I hope your next excursion is just as rewarding, if not more so.
nope, just panned it right in the river as the water is still running brown with silt.

Sweet!
I'm in Helena Might have to check out the CF!
Thank you, I'm in Missoula. the gold comes from an inside bend behind an outcrop of bedrock at a popular swimming spot

The back is entirely crusted with heavy rust so can't really tell anything. Thanks for the information.

I dug this button recently with the teknetics t2 se using the 5 " coil in factory default disc mode with 4 tone along an old sidewalk strip. The iron back is very corroded. it was a terrible bouncy signal but something about it said dig me and l was happy l did . l think it might date from 1880 - 1920 but I'm not sure. any info would be much appreciated .

I have owned every type Compadre model made, even the European Compadre Pro. The earlier model ones did come with a metal bolt.
That is a steal for $20. Would bring $120+ on Ebay.
I also have the Amigo ll. From what I understand it is the same as the early compadre's.

Nice find. Nickel looks nice. How did you clean it?
I wiped it with a cloth and a little bacon grease. I do the same for the wheats and indians I find.

Nice find 🙂 How'd you know its an old hobo camp? *curious*
old railroad used to run through the area and transients still camp there even though it's posted no overnight camping. plus there is lots of activity from sportsmen and people recreating along the river. old fire rings make the campsights obvious, plus I detect every flat spot and around the old trees.

1903 indians pocket spill from the old transient camps along the river with my mxt and 10 x 5 detech coil. They must been very close together because vdi came up 74, l was expecting modern firearm brass and was very surprised when the first indian popped out, a quick check of the hole and still a signal , another one emerged from the semi frozen ground. I had the mxt in relic mode, discrimination at 3. Also recovered some clad and cheap jewelry and the usual .22 brass and bullets and junk. The last image is of remnants of RR track that used to run through the area.

Never done it but like you I don't see any reason it can't be done. It is the same rod size, same box mount type. The only thing you would need to do is relocate the trigger switch into the GMT pod as is done on the DFX. I guess the question is if White's will sell you the bare DFX handle part required. As long as it's not too much money, you can proceed and back off at any point if the project seems to be going south.
I ordered the new handle from whites today ......$33 and some change and that includes the shipping. I never liked that s- rod, the handle is too slim for me . I think it will be a fairly simple conversion . I will post more as it progresses. Thank you Steve for your input.

I was considering putting my 4b on a dfx shaft, doesn't look like a big deal to me, but guy at whites said different. If l had it on the dfx shaft l would have the option of straight shaft or s shaft with pistol grip depending on which lower shafts l use. Has anyone ever done this before or have any info that might help me before l tackle this ? Thanks to all who reply.

I have a Garrett Carrot AT and love it, I bought a Whites TRX as reviews claimed it to be great so I thought it might be even better than my Carrot and was disappointed with it. It's not near as sensitive as my Carrot and less depth on coins too. The Carrot will pinpoint reasonable size gold, 0.5 of a gram and above it does reasonable on getting better the bigger.
must be something wrong with your trx, send it back to whites. my trx hits on small gold the carrott doesn't even know exists. I can get about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch depth on gold that is 0.1 gm.

The mxt hit a home run at an old ballpark recently with this 43 war nickel. Also found a wheat penny and some clad and a little trash. Funny thing happened on this particular hunt, I was heckled by a passerby in their vehicle who pointed at me and laughed out loud, don't know if he was laughing at me or my old White's detector . Anyway I didn't let it get me down and had a good hunt. Has that ever happened to anyone else on the forum ?
