  1. Looking for a solution to convert my brand new CTX GG Amphibians to use on the Equinox...I just called Detector Pro and they stated that Minelab had the male connector on the Equinox made specifically for them(proprietary). It will be another 2+ months before Detector Pro can obtain the connector...if Minelab works with them!

I've sent a few PMs looking for an adapter....this is getting frustrating and ML needs to provide an update on their waterproof headphones.

I'm with all you guys I ordered mine in the beginning of October I think it was like the third. When I found out Cabelas was selling them without a waiting list I was super pissed off and bummed out at the same time. I didn't have the cash in my account to jump on the first bandwagon, then I was reading all the speculation about when the second shipment was coming... I ran to bank and deposited money into it. So then I was ready to jump when Cabelas came back online and I did... and like I said to everybody that ordered from Cabelas have patience it will be coming, some of the guys in the first batch got there tracking number the day before they receive their equinoxes....

But this taught me a valuable lesson! This was the first and last time I'll pre-ordered anything! And the only reason I did in the first place was because I just knew this machine was going to be awesome! And it looks like from what I see it's very true!

#Me too! First I pre-ordered from a dealer on 2 Sep. Waited, waited, waited. Then I traded in a GPX detector and moved my EQ-800 pre-order to my preferred dealer on 20 December. Now I'm told it will be March, so when Cabelas second shipment became available, I jumped on one thanks to Thegoldenone.

It shipped today with FREE shipping/no military discount and will be here Tuesday!:sad:

  3. My first detector was a JETCO BFO detector and it was a piece of junk! I was lucky if it could hit a coin more than 3" deep and it would cut-out when the "waterproof coil" was submerged, but it was all we could afford in 1969. So, after many years travelling around the world working and not detecting, I took early retirement and was able to pursue my treasure hunting addiction. I decided I would get the best detector available and settled on a Minelab SE. What a difference!

After many ML products, from a great dealer in Boise, ID. that provides excellent training, I know that "If you get the best, you won't be disappointed".  My wife taught me that phrase and it has served me well. The Equinox 800 will be another great Minelab detector.

  5. If I was going to look for gold nuggets in tailing piles and placer digs, I would re-read Gerry's excellent article on "Finding Nuggets In Tailing Piles & Placer Digs" from W&ET 2009 Silver & Gold.  Gerry provides pro tips on how to dig less trash, pile selection, the detector choice, coil selection and placer digs. Hint- bring a quality "gold capable" VLF detector with 9" or 11" concentric and elliptical coils or a PI with stock DD and small elliptical coils for iron discrimination. Plus the article shows some great pics of gold nuggets and specimens found by Gerry and his customers.

    Everywhere else, bring the GPZ!

Another detectorist opts out. You can't please everyone. Call me old-fashioned, but I hate the XP "charge the coil, controller, and headphones" system with inherently expensive and limited coil options. I want a pile of affordable wired coils that work underwater. If APTX does not float your boat, then the E800 also includes faster speed WiStream.

The nice thing is we have a market full of choices to suit different people. No one detector will ever suit everybody. Nor should it.

My commentary above is not meant to trash the Deus. Greatest thing since sliced bread and somebody needed to do it. It's just not my cup of tea for multiple reasons. Just like the Equinox will not suit many people.

Steve, really appreciate your honest opinion on the XP Deus...most posters on other forums won't talk about the negatives and you hit the big ones in your first paragraph! Sure it's lightweight and finds stuff in iron infested sites.....but when I also read that the coils go into "sleep mode" and cannot be turned off when not in use, I opted out. There were just too many issues for me and I was close to buying one.

    Thanks Barry.

What can we say about sections 17 and 21?  Are all of the odd sections under the same restrictions?

20 hours ago, Clay Diggins said:

According to the Master Title Plat those sections are part of the same land action. Without looking each section up I'd have to say the odds are high they both have the same private subsurface status as Section 19.

The Case Number for those odd sections is Nv 050293. With a little research you could know for sure.

The Master Title Plat will give you the status of each Section in that Township.

The one thing that is clear is that there can be no prospecting (including metal detecting) or mining on Section 19 without the mineral owners written permission.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Getting back to the original topic subject for those computer experts, are Sections 17 and 21 private subsurface status and therefore there can be no prospecting (including metal detecting) or mining on those sections without the mineral owners written permission?

  8. Hey LuckyLundy,

That wasn't me in RP that you met. I only acquired my claim in 2016 and only have a few weeks a year to prospect..

Some background- Major Corporations have owned Sec 18 since the early 1970's. First by Saundra Lee in 1974, then Apollo Gold, and since 2007 Jipangu Gold Corp. Sec 18 became open to claim in 2016, when Jeff Dunmire acquired and then sold the 20-acre claims.

So basically, if anybody has been metal detecting Sec 18 in the last 40 years without written permission from one of those corporations, they were higrading.

Please learn to do your own due diligence. Please respect mineral owners rights, those minerals are their private property under the law.

Thanks Barry for all your efforts on Land Matters.

If the claims are clearly and properly marked I doubt many people will chance jumping on to a claim especially one like section 18. Section 19 has plenty of detectable gold and it's not claimed. Also Dan kindly offers his GOOD claims to anyone for 20 bucks a day.

A simple google search shows that " running plates" is illegal. So if your running plates I wouldn't advertise that. None of the land is marked no trespassing. Owning a claim is different from owing the land.

Also so if I see a game camera laying around on on unmarked land it's going in my backpack.

Best solution is to clearly mark your claims. I doubt many people are interested claim jumping the sections you have.

Make friends with the local people.

You catch more flys with honey.

    Hey benzyoc,

Two years ago I installed six 4 x 4 wooden posts with concrete footers and the proper yellow claim marker signs on my 40 acres...those claim jumpers don't respect or care about private claims.

  10. Hey Rail Dawg,

If you see any claim jumpers on my two 20-acre claims in NE Sec 18 run them off! Those claims were expensive. I was out there in May and a neighboring claim owner stopped by and we talked...he had to run some guys off my claims. They dug holes without back filling them, left a pick and Kellyco bag....my buddy has them now.
