  1. Hey Chase,

Thanks for the heads up! When you ask her, please explain we all would "wish" to see more of a coil selection!!! I get that she has heard this before! (Hint, Hint)!  But the main issue seems to be the "perception" by nearly everone that has commented about this issue, that Minelab does not "care" about the customer wants and needs! If we are incorrect in thinking this way, than it's on Minelab to correct this perception; not their customers! And put out some kind of statement to fix this perception!  I think that will go a long way into satisfying the repeated questions of their customers, and anyone looking to purchase in the future! If that makes sense!

    Thanks in advance👍

  2. Has anyone other than maybe Steve, and Andy S., (that should be enough!!!!) approached Minelab directly ( to Mark Lawrie for instance) about adding coils to there lineup?? Or getting direct conformation why not!  I'm still relatively new to the field, but have a good deal of technical experience! It boggles my mind that any manufacturer that has had so much short term success with one product would stonewall their loyal customers in this way, and allow the opportunity for another producer to steal their thunder!! Minelab could at least put out a "press release" as to why they chose only these coil sizes!

  3. Read the link; that formulation of stainless sounds great! I wonder if the cost is prohibiting its use in the general tool market though, due to not seeing it marketed as such! Also, not all steels will hold an edge due to being too soft, or too hard! "Forged In  Fire" has tought me alot about edged steels! Because i am far from an expert! Except that i do resemble the "Baboon" part!🙉🤣

  4. I found these on Kellyco a while back! They appear to be well made with a Rockwell hardness of 50!  I have bent a Garrett hand digger, and broken the handle of another generic one!💪   I tend to be hard on my digging tools! These also come in yellow, and black! And multiple lengths! Only place i've seen them is on Kellyco! I may give this hand digger a try!

  5.    Hello all,

I have now been on here a few months, and am very much enjoying everyone's information and humor!

First a disclaimer: I tend to use alot of exclamation points when i post, so don't think I'm yelling at any of you! I just like them more than periods!  Besides, Steve prohibits yell posting!

I am a born and raised South Florida native, and 3+ year's retired!   I started detecting back when i was in high school!  And unfortunately stopped a few years later, when cars, girls, and life, took over!  I picked it up again in 2015, when my wife and kids were no longer taking over! (Yes; I'm still married)!  I'm all in on detecting now, even though i missed some good years! The only other forum i have followed and posted on before this, is "The Treasure Beaches Report"!  (Still read every day)!  And I'm just happy to be here;  learning from, and posting with, all of you! 🇺🇸

My first detector, circa 1980 👍

    (still have it)👍👍

  6. Just got my coil back today from Minelab! In fact, i was writing on phrunt's ( the coin king ) 20 page thread, when it arrived! Weird!!  Anyway, the coil is brand new, and included a new coil cover, with rubber gaskets and shaft bolt! I sent the coil back stripped, so kudos to Minelab for including these at no charge!  I don't know if the coil tabs are any different on this one, and the mold seams are still on the tabs! But we will see how it holds up! I'm still under warranty for a few more years so no worries!

  7. Just read this thread,

I also bought one, which i believe is the newer verson! The website states that the the pod base on old versons was 3D printed! The newer versons are molded and fit better! As far as mounting the base, you have to pay attention to the angle of the mounts on both pieces, the screws do not go in at 90° degrees, and i can see where they could be mounted incorrectly and break the mounts!  I believe that the stock base from Minelab will only mount one way! That is not the case with the tel-knox! It is also possible to overtighten the screws on any pod base and strip the brass inserts from the pod! I would like to see torque specs from Minelab on these screws, no matter what shaft they are mounted too!

Also depending on swing style and speed, you may have to torque down the shaft clips a bit more than normal! I found the shafts could work loose when doing a rapid scan of a beach, rather than a slow and methodical search! Other than that, I've got about 20 hrs on it with no problems so far!

  8. Thanks GB,

I doubt i will be finding any gold nuggets on the beaches (unless they are from the 1715 wrecks, or gold caps) but i have found small gold earring posts and beads with the 11"!  So i beleve you are correct!  Like everyone else, I'll just be digging more in the parks to get the gold!

  9. Here is the only inland gold that I've found so far with the Knox! I only wish it was more intact! But still love it! Below the first pic is what it would have originally looked like, and the info found on the internet! It was cool to be able to get all the information on the manufacturer and the date made! That was the "icing on the cake" over just me finding a generic gold ring!

  10. Thanks for the info all,

I can manage the Equinox at the beach's Ok, but the parks have been kicking my butt! So many signals, and I'm only using 5 tones! For now I'm much better on my AT Pro in the parks! The whole "learning curve" thing! I know the Knox will ultimately be better, so i will keep plugging away! I've asked this once before on another thread, but does anyone see a large difference with the 6 inch coil on the Knox, over the standard one in parks?? Im considering if it would help with the target seperation; and I'm not worried about any depth loss due to it's size? Any suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance!

  11. Thanks ColonelDan, keep dry in the foxhole!

I've used a black slip-on cover since i got the detector! I'm in South Florida, and so far( knock on metal), I've had no heat issues with any of my detectors! It's also black like many detectors, and i can see where that may be an issue!  But i like the cutout suggestion! It's rare that i water hunt , so i have not used the silicone boot yet! Just the battery seal gasket that was supplied with the boot! I may get some fabric paint and paint my cover a light color to help also!    Joe
