  1. Being far from the seabed for over a week and forced to appreciate the wetsand work, I honestly loved the things I found in these days and kept a good pre-view of the lower eroded slope meanwhile hunting the upper side.

After one small ring and a necklace last monday and another ring with a diamond yesterday, it was clear that a precise point remained unhunted or at least not so well explored by others.

Doing the maths I checked a time window of three hours this morning to go underwater exactly in the same point and facing the hotpoint where I pulled up the good stuff on the shore.

As soon as I was facing the bottom, I realized the suspected conditions I had when water was too murky to see it for good among waves.

I've seen this s##t too many times in two decades so thinking about heavy scattered iron, slippery clay and boulders with almost no sand at all to cover the surface, I opened totally the screen and started listening everything to remove the masking stuff...

Due to the deep flat slope, the only places where to keep the eyes and ears open were the holes filled with moved rocks...

Ten minutes and the first wedding band it was in my hands.

Already happy but conscious that nothing more than luck caused so soon the first hit, other two hours passed until the second hit with a terrible silence in between...

So the second wedding band, this time white gold with a little ice it's been recovered and warmed the heart and the wetsuit.

As usual my camera it was left home and all that remains is this picture😂

One of them had an ID of a solid 3

That's exactly what I talked about when struggling with the D2.

I mean, broken stuff, thin open chains and light gold rings must be low on the IDs.

Going up with thickness and grams, and I talk about old monsters over 15 g. ,maybe around the 60 should be however acceptable.

What's the point to have 99 numbers if almost 30 of them are for iron, ground and some foil, to fall really soon on the coin zone mixed with lead and who knows what more between 70 and 99.

Can't wait to set the Manti for some cherry vacuum sessions🏴‍☠️

  3. If you keep a diver out of the water for more than a week, it goes bad like fish.

Not to rot during this lousy time of zero visibility and bad waves, I went back to the little miracle spot on wetsand today.

Although I had returned yesterday with a 6", no signal was in range and quite disappointed and tired I returned home after two hours.

Instead, this morning I was with the 11" retracing the same steps.

After more than 4 hours with my arm wrecked and all too much aluminum dug out, as I was leaving the beach I was swinging the detector just enough not to keep it off and really stumbled upon an unmistakable signal.

I titled the previous post "seriously?"...Well this must be the second act.

After 20 years, I continue to experience the wonder of certain days.

The spark of gold can make you forget even that you are broken.

  4. @F350Platinum

Thanks for your words and the service address...

The coil's owner lives in Italy and the coil i first bought comes from France.

So his doubt in case of future issues is about to send eventually the coil to the french dealer or to directly ask to the local italian one.

Honestly, there's little explained on this "transferable" warranty...

I don't even know how to register the purchase...It might be a dealer's task.

By the way, right now I'm squeezing as much as I can with my old gun...The killer3030 or...I hope to call it one day the Manticore father🙏

  5. Although there used to be quite stringent rules for dealers on selling instruments and accessories outside the allocation area, lately it is possible to find several detectors of any brand on Amazon or eBay and buy them from another country.

Having just sold a coil of my old Deus2, the new owner does not know what to do in case of service.

Since the coil came from France, is it possible to get service from a dealer in another country?

Should one send it to the dealer who first made the sale to initiate the service procedure?

Thank you to anyone with information on this matter....

I'm hopefully getting my M8 in the next day or so. My question is why do you think it's so good on the wet sand? I've read where several folks are finding a lot of success with it on the beach where usually depth and coverage is king and a smaller coil usually brings disadvantages. The 15" on the beach is what I usually swing but maybe with the Manticore less is more?

I'd love to hear what you think.

It generally depends by the environment.

As an example two days ago I was on an eroded and heavy black sand patch with the 11" and my Ctx...Even if I modified some settings to take care of a terrible masking action, I missed the tiny 6" really capable to isolate stuff with killer precision.

I found a necklace and a small ring but fighting to listen signals between so much iron

Again, there's case and case... You're right about covered space and some depth, but not everywhere a bigger coil means this.

Conversely, in that place, a smaller coil provides higher sensitivity level without ground interference and useful separation. Not to mention the rocky layer you can batter check in between... Tomorrow I'll be back there with the 6"...

In two weeks, I'll have hopefully the Manticore with the M8...Just the time to set everything with the 11" and goodbye...I'm a diver and never felt comfortable with large coils by the way.

Someday I hope to be as good as some of the people on here.

Don't let the iron to mute the machine...In infested places can cost you the few audible good signals... That's all my friend 🏴‍☠️

Wow great finds! I would keep hitting that beach instead of going underwater. I never used a ctx, but I would bet the Manticore would do a good job on that beach.

    Similar tools....And you're right.

A faster processor and separation can unmask who knows what more...

But I'm waiting to push the purchase button😉

  9. I took up a ritual as a pure pastime, devoting a few hours to the shoreline.

Some time ago I found with great wonder, a small ring in a really forgotten stretch of a beach, where I could barely find iron and a few coins.

This morning, it being stormy and so for the rest of the week, I returned a little further than the spot where I was successful.

The only promising area with obvious erosion was about 10 square meters.

A very strong concentration of clay and black sand was making Ctx sick, so I immediately opened the pattern and changed separation, given the incredible masking I could hear.

What happened next, in a dozen coins, is nothing short of a miracle for me.

For the first time I found myself looking for a pendant that might belong to the necklace instead of the other way around, and the little ring had opened a sliver of hope amidst very obvious signals, but mixed with really too much iron.

I think the necklace gave a minimal signal because of the knot along the links by the way.

Nothing else to record for today, but what a day guys!

Nothing but congratulations can be said!

The pictures speak for themselves and it is really clear that under the surface, this instrument has an edge...

I sold the D2 a week ago and before fall, I will test a Manti with M8 for good to give peace to my overaged Ctx.

So guys what I am trying to say is I am hunting in shallow salt  water with Tom’s settings.
I feel it’s like using the excal in all metal. At least that what I am telling myself.
and I think it can have some real potential.
I really like the 8 in coil especially in the water.
Was wondering if anyone else is doing this and is there any tips or detecting modes there using. I am having a hard time understanding the target sounds. Trying go just use sounds not numbers. the beginning and end when sweeping over the target. I must be gettalot of small metal coming in 7-10 range and it’s junk. Think it’s small lead shot or split shot. Would like to have the gold sound better or sound different
is there anything I can try adjusting or programming.
    appreciate any advice you give

Although I have postponed the purchase and further testing until next fall, as far as the Manticore is concerned I can say, after a couple of hours spent scrolling through the settings, that it is very reminiscent of the parameters found on the Ctx and expands on them with several filters.

Although underwater you tend to look at the screen very little, don't forget that using ferrous limits and all metals with red numbers is already a good help in discarding doubtful signals.

I think you are using the prospecting theme and perhaps that is why you cannot decipher with audio an unusual shape and its signal.

All that remains is to devote at least two tones to the first 1/15 and 15/30 bins to get a feel for subtle targets and at least two more tones from 30 onward for larger objects and coins.

Keep in mind that while tightening the pattern with the wider ferrous boundaries, throughout the all metal, does not mean dumbing down the audio on the iron, but hearing the tone "dirtying" the signals.

As a rule of thumb, I would not dig anything that sounds even a little ferrous.

Not when we are immersed, there is absolutely no time to waste.

  12. @Jeff McClendon

Having operated extensively with Cz21, Excalibur, HeadHunter, Tdi Bh, Ctx, and D2, even today I still do not believe that there is one tool that encompasses everything a dive hunter needs.
I could certainly list the merits of each, but the recent trend of these "hybrid", multi-purpose machines moves away from my concept of a single, dedicated tool.
The Excalibur continues to get top marks for the maximum depth to which it can be taken in the water.... But stability in salt water is paid for with poor sensitivity to broken and thin jewels.
Wonderful audio discrimination on gold.... Unmistakable.
I would like a 9" concentric coil on all of them.... I love the crisp response of HeadHunter audio.... But 8" in this case with a single 2.4kHz frequency is outdated stuff...
The beloved deep yellow Tdi... Oh my...it flooded too soon to leave it dry or die.
The 3030 heavy sniper rifle continues to work wonders...but those 3-meter waterproofs are a scam...It lacks audio volume for God's sake...
Aside from a wedding band right out of the box, of the Cz21 I remember the half hour of mechanics applied to changing batteries and borrowing 4 duracells of the likely 9 or 18V for a handful of Ah.
Regarding the D2, I retain the realization that I have to dig everything, just everything...Maybe out of the water please....
Now all these needs are pre/purchase filters....
    And the pressing questions are:
Will I have powerful audio as on the Excalibur?
Will I really be able to go 15 feet without thinking about seeing water in the screen?
Will I have a low target Id for a low conductor up to 7 grams of 18K in spite of the thickness?
Will I have the pleasure of seeing a broken necklace again without its pendant?
Will I be able to avoid changing rods after a week?
    The list could be lengthened...

  13. @Jeff McClendon

I'm glad to read your impressions of the Manti, especially since you also own a D2.

I have not yet succumbed to the temptation to buy it, because after a year of intensive use of the D2, I was already dreading the difference in discrimination compared to a more precise Ctx despite its 11 years of age.

After deciding to sell the D2 and going back to using the old "sniper rifle," the numbers soared again, and I think there is an obvious reason behind this result.

I complained strongly on the D2 about too large an allocation of low conductors.

Could you confirm that most of the jewels fall in the first part of the scale up to a maximum of 60 points?

After viewing hundreds of trials in others' videos, it adds to my impression that the 2d panel is very reminiscent of the Fe/Co meter of the Ctx and that the target trace has been replaced by black traces anyway using a similar system.

Certainly this is not rocket science, but the selection of what I need to dig into and invest time or not depends solely on the quality of the signals, and although on the D2 this was done only via audio, an on-screen reference was sorely missed.

The recommended X/Y screen, is not even remotely effective in representing a valuable signal.

I simply cannot spend too much time digging up every possible signal.

Being underwater from fall to spring is just another kind of hunting and does not admit of wasting time playing with the air available.

I therefore find myself still using an old and ruined detector with better results.

What I can hope for, is that on the Manti I can find more depth and better allocation of low conductors once and for all.

  14. Even if I slightly flooded it once, I loved my Tdi Beach Hunter before to keep it far from the water depth.

I'll do a long conservative restoration in the future, maybe adapting the mono 8" Detech and reducing the empty shell to surround coil's spirals with minimal plastic and epoxy.

Around 12 uS was the best I squeezed with that coil...15 or higher with the factory yellow 12".

  15. After the last three days of waiting, with little pronounced swell but enough to make the surf area impassable, this morning I tried to hang on despite the water still being choppy and the visibility  really bad.

Once again, a pattern with really tight high and low iron limits selected the few signals worthy of digging.

I must say that while limiting the sensitivity, I am afraid it is the only efficient way for me to make an effective session in certain conditions.

As usual the cam's battery died before the glory shine and however, just sand suspension and fast water it's been the subject for 99% of the dive session.

    Sell the stress stick

    Already done😅...

This time, however, I want to put the cuffs on and stop my hands until the day I am extremely certain that the next instrument has passed every possible test in someone else's hands.
I am studying the user's manual ad nauseam, got to try out the controls thanks to a friend for about 20 minutes, but have not purchased.
    Not this time.
A thousand videos won't be enough to convince me.
And if, in the meantime, my Ctx should fall apart in its 12th year, let it be in battle, instead than in fat dust on a shelf 🏴‍☠️

  17. I won't have a chance to test the M8 until next fall, but I hope it will perform as well as the 10x5 I was using in diving.

The only problem with that design was the total coil closure.

The m8 design on a 10x5 would be outstanding.

Below is an 8-year-old miracle, unearthed two chains amidst a lot of iron.

I must have been the tenth to pass on that patch....

How does gold sound for you? To me all the sounds are pretty bland. The CTX makes gold and nickels sound sweet!  Need that, maybe a tone waveform option per region?

I would love to have the Manticore under hand but unfortunately I am 400 kilometers away from the base.
I don't remember exactly the peak frequency of the tone on the Ctx but I remember getting a very good sound on the 360Hz.
With the yellow Koss at least, that peak resonates loud and clear and helps me distinguish low conductors...Only two tones for me anyway.
I hope to get the same sound back on the Manticore.

  19. 10 hours ago, bklein said:

There are two ways to set region tones: one is one tone per ID region, the other - the ability to have lower and upper frequency points that allow an increasing, a fixed, or decreasing frequency ID response. Maybe I’m missing something - if you fix end points to the same tone aren’t the two tone modes identical?  If so, why not just have one option with the variable endpoints and that’s it?

I have not yet had a chance to set up the audio profiles properly, especially since I have only tried the Manticore and just sold a D2.
But as a long-time user of Ctx I can think of it as having created this mode to blur the tones.
Let me explain, someone calls on the D2 tone's "nuances" that allow you to recognize a clear signal from a partial one that responds abnormally due to an irregular shape or bad placement in the ground.
With a sharp tone for each bin, surely it is easier to distinguish a signal worth to dig, but without this detail of finesse.
Another example of differentiation hides in the 50 tones or I suppose in the 99 tones.
In this case, however, an unstable ID will obviously sound multiple and variable in pitch tone.
Here, in this mode, I would only and only dig a unique and distinct tone....
