  1. I have not bought a Nox yet and only have minimal time on a friends machine but have seen what it can do along side me. It has impressed me as a relic/hammered coin hunter, I have seen a lot of deep targets of all sizes and conductivity come up, especially coins on edge that other detectors just missed, I am very impressed in that respect.

Where I am not impressed at all is modern coin shooting. Euro coin hunting and in particular the VDI's produced in multi for a €2 coin conflicts with a a lot of modern junk. Unlike all other detectors I have used, including the CTX, in multi, the VDI for a €2 coin is 15/16, crown caps are producing the same VDI and even worse still square pull tabs of beer cans, like Heineken cans produce the same 15/16 VDI. Most festivals over here are sponsored by Heineken lol. This was observed in Park1/Field1, in Park2/Field2 things seam to only get worse. Using the Nox in 5khz helps where crown caps rise up to 28/30 and the €2 rises up to 20/21 and every thing stays the same.

Problem solved, well no, in 5khz you cant tell the difference between a 10c euro coin and €2, thus a lot of time is wasted digging low value 10c coins when I could be concentrating on higher value coins apart from the fact that 5khz is not the optimal frequency for mid range conductors the Euro coins are. This might not be a problem for most people but as festival site hunting is a big part of my livelihood its a problem for me. Looks like I am stuck with the cute little French thing unless Minelab are planning to spread out the VDI range in a future date????

I have not done tests on UK £1/£2 coins yet but as they fall into the same range as Euro coins and they are bimetal, I can see problems as well. How are the park hunters in the US doing??

Well like all things Minelab vs Minelab I doubt either outcome worries Minelab much. Kind of like Equinox vs CTX vs E- Trac vs Excalibur. When all the discussion is all about which Minelab is best with other brands tossed in as an afterthought... what manufacturer would not love those kinds of arguments!!

Again we are in a total different market, its all about how will it compares to the cute little French thing over here lol, but I think this is exactly what Minelab had in mind with the Equinox.

  3. I for one could live without the wireless headphones and the wireless module as I plan on using aftermarket phones, what I cant do without is the advanced settings on the 800 over the 600. One thing we have to remember is we are living in completely different markets, the price point is more favourable for the 600 vs 800 in North America compared to Europe where the 600 comes in at €795 (£679, $980) vs €1000 (£879, $1232) for the 800. With prices like that the difference is not as pronounced as in NA, and we are not talking cheap machines anymore.

Thats right Steve......not sure they dont already have larger liths now.   Early on i think someone already posted a much larger lith battery that would work.  Larger capacity.... means longer hours of charging using the current USB method.   I understand they are looking at magnesium possibly for batteries.

You are probably right but the latest and greatest batteries tend to be very expensive.

  5. Whats really getting up my nose is that no prices have being released for the spare coils. It would be nice to know if I will be buying a nox or not at this stage. I would have ordered months ago if the coil prices were released. According to Minelab the nox is due out next week and still no prices??????

  6. I am wondering is there a different ground balance methods for the multi compared to the single frequency modes? Traditionally multi frequencies use ground compensation, whereas singles use ground balance or ground cancel, so what makes Equinox tick?

Besides, you have Minelab's ear. I keep telling people these forums are closely watched and it matters what you say and how you present yourself. The Equinox did not pop out of thin air.

This whole concept of Minelab listening to its customers is a bit alien to most of us  Yes the Equinox did not pop out of thin air and yes peoples 'wants' have influenced its design, but one has to think, was its introduction because of what people wanted or was it in reaction to reduced sales??

I have used Minelabs since the mid 90's and have used just about every BBS/FBS unit ever since but I actually don't own a Minelab anymore even though I am an avid beach hunter????  My love with Minelab ended a few years ago, for various reasons like the factory closing in Ireland, the competition suited some sites better but the fact coils are not available for the CTX that suit my needs. With the introduction of the chip inside the coil I realised that there will never be any available, and 5 years later has proved that fact. Sure Minelab have sold more coils than on older units but the question should be, how many more CTX's would have sold if coils were available???

If Equinox is as popular as I think it will be there will be an entire cottage industry spring up making accessory items for it, including coils. If that's an issue just stick with what you have until the coil you want appears on the scene.

Haha, the day I can get rid of the cute little French thing will be a very happy day for me  I hate the thing, I call it the "evil necessity"   I do a lot of detecting on a festival site, which is a important part of my income, and up to now Deus package being fast, wireless headphones and light, just cant be bet till now hopefully. The Rutus Alter 71 is close and it has a suitable 9" coil, so now a combination of the Rutus and Equinox should fulfil all my needs (excluding the TDI for beach) until suitable coils come out.

  8. Steve if you have the ear of Minelab, would you please try and get it into their heads that if they want to compete with XP in Europe, they will have to come out with a coil suitable for hunting in stubble fields. The 11" is to big and 6" is to small, what is needed is a 8"-9" round. I am looking forward to the 800 but all ready I am thinking I cant get rid of the Deus for this fact and if I cant get rid of the Deus, I just cant justify buying an Equinox. I would still own my CTX if there was a proper selection of coils.

Anyone who uses a GM over here is due south of crazy, the old iron particles in the ground from the last 4 or 5000 years would drive you nuts, But good on them for being brave, That's a great result from the GM,

    J.

The Iron age started roughly 600bc in Northern Europe so are talking 2600 years. Deus users have being using the high frequency coils quit successfully in the UK on iron infested sites, at higher frequencies than the gold monster, so why not?

I know myself if I buy a Equinox it will be the E 800. Right now all I want to know is the big question and that's when will it hit the market so I can buy one.

I need to move something before I buy another detector but it's not going to be a detector.  The first thing to go will be the money in my piggy back and then a gun maybe.

A detector in the price range of the Equinox the correct term is what's under the hood.

A detector in the price range of the GPZ 7000 the correct term is what's under the bonnet.

Now you know the rest of the story.

    Chuck

You should mean, what's in the boot.
