Thanks for that xray of the 2300 strick.
I always thought it was a huge coincidence that Coiltek and Nugget Finder released their flat wound coils after the 2300 came out and it also shows why the 2300 is so sensitive to the really small stuff about 1" in from the edge of the coil Dave

The wife and I got out for a couple of hour detect today and about 1 hour in I got a really iffy signal with the 7000 and it sounded like it was down maybe a couple of inches. I was really surprised when the hole started getting deeper and deeper and the target was still there. When I was down about 8" in hard ground I got the 2300 my better half was using so I could pinpoint cause I really couldn`t tell where in the hole it was and down about the 12" mark this piece popped out. Looking at it from the side it pretty well looks like a rock but all around the edges there are hundreds of tiny pinpoints of gold. It sg`s at 2.1 grams gold and is my biggest piece in quite some time. ?

Does anyone know the company that makes the Xcoils? Is there a website?

They are amazing. I have never seen anything like that ?

Apparently he is aware of the problem. I hope you get this problem sorted quickly Dave

Heh, what do you folks do with your Zs, mine gets dropped and belted on rocks, used to beat snakes to death, bounces around in the back of the ute whilst bush bashing, used as a brush cutter through heavy grass etc etc...
Yeh I don`t set out to knock mine about but I don`t wrap it up in cotton wool either. I don`t have any covers on it, I don`t think I have ever cleaned it, I just use it. Mine looks "well used".

I`ve not used any of the flat wound coils because they came out after I bought the 7000, but generally the round coils go a bit deeper than the ellipticals so unless you are going for ground coverage I reckon the 14 round would be the go.
Again I`ve not used any of them, but I have heard some very good things from a few people about the NF 12" round Evolution. Dave -

Clearly, with the huge amount of interest that is being shown in the after market coils for 7000, it`s obvious that there is a market out there for coils other than 14'' and 19". I don`t take the 19" out much because I have had very little success with it and with my bad wrists it`s just too damn heavy, but Minelab did tell us in the early days of marketing the 7000 that they would be releasing a 11" coil down the track, and now there is another company that nobody has ever heard of making a huge range of coils that are lighter and have so far been very well received by the public.
What`s going on Minelab? -
Peg great pictures and great gold. Well done ?

from where did you get heavier charging cables? I charge off my battery or house current...are you charging off your computer?
confused
I bought the new cables on Ebay Fred and yeh I charge them on the laptop, and like I said using the lighter cables took way longer than using the heavier cables. Dave

A couple of months ago I put out a call for the parts list for the WM12 because my original WM12 was taking forever to charge. At the same time I bought the replacement battery, I also bought some heavier charging cables because I have about half a dozen devices that all use the same cable. I bought cables that were listed as suitable for external hard drives and they were about 6 bucks each. Because I kept changing cables on different devices I don`t even know now what cables came with the WM12. Anyway, with the heavier charging cables my original WM12 now charges QUICKER than the newer WM12, so I don`t need to fit the battery. Maybe, if your WM12 is getting sluggish charging, it may not be the battery, it may be the cable breaking down. Just a thought. Dave

Thanks phoenix ,
Will order one today , with my limited skills if I run into trouble , I will PM you . Thanks for the advice and offer .
Cheers

Depending on the operating system you are using you might have to install a very small capture software called AMCAP. My Windows 10 mainframe just detects the camera when I plug the scope in, but with AMCAP I just took this photo on my old as the hills Vista laptop. I can give you AMCAP if you need it, but I don`t suppose many people are running Vista Laptops these days. ☺️

Phoenix , great pics . question for you .
When you take a photo with microscope how do you transfer it to your smart phone for texting or your computer for saving or emailing .
Cheers

hey goldrat
yeh what Phrunt said, you plug the usb into the computer (I have no idea what a smart phone might be), when you take the photo it saves a jpeg file to your computer, easy peezy lemon squeesy. PM me if you would like me to show you. Dave

Great photos. What camera do you use?
I like to be able to say I can take these close up photos because I`m a brilliant photographer but the truth is I use a low power usb microscope. The high power scopes have no depth of field and are very hard to focus.

Ok guys, if this Coil is in fact a DD, what would be a good choice in a smaller medium sized mono that is reasonably sensitive?
Thanks
Al.
Al I went looking in a QED manual because I didn`t know, and I came across this line "The QED was built upon the mono search coil platform, DD searchcoils will not work properly as only one side of a DD coil will be functional."
What that means is, hold a small target in your fingers, and if you can only hear it on the left side of the coil, that coil is definitely a DD. DD`s transmit on the left side and receive on the right side. If the coil is a DD, and I think it probably is, you don`t have a 11" round, you have a 11 x 5½" elliptical, which I think will still work fine, you just won`t get the full depth of a 11" mono. I have found gold with DD`s running the detector set to mono.
And I agree with Reg, I think the Minelab 8" Commander is a killer coil, over the years I probably found more pieces with it than all my other coils combined. Dave -

Did the thick patena layer cause the signal to be some what weak or iffy? Some of the gold at a region I hunt has a calcium or hard clay build up that is cream to orangish cream color and often causes the gold to be hard to get a signal on
No mate, no calcium or hard clay build up on it. When I detected it, it sounded deep and I had no idea of it`s size but as I got closer to it, it sounded like the hundreds of birdshot I have dug.

good on you Mitchel. I`m really pleased you wont be going home empty handed ?

What a fantastic find, well done. ? Most of the times I get that warble it turns out to be a rusty piece of I iron, but that`s the signal I`m out there looking for. Again, terrific finds ?

No worries Mitchel. Inglewood-Kingower is only about 300 square miles. We`ll find you in no time? Dave

Yeh, that was why I started that "I don`t understand what Minelab is doing" thread. Minelab has never been big on giving out information, but with this coil thing it seems like Minelab is making a point by not saying anything. I still do not understand ☹️
