  1. I just checked this out ,, It's in Calais. That's right on the coast where it meets Canada.

    It's bare there. No snow.

There is also a lot of people , including a U of Maine campus just down the road in Machias..

They'll all be all over it !

I have an older cousin that lives there but is traveling IIRC.

4-5 hour drive for me. , being with mom every day is worth more than $25k to me and I'd have a very small chance of finding anything anyway...

The locals will have seen it or know somebody that can give a pointy finger  !

I wish them all luck. OH AYUH !

Too cool ! Missed me by THAT much !😏

    Sorry 'bout that Chief !

  2. Welcome to the forums.

Keep going , that special find is waiting for you , you'll find it when you go to...............

    wherever it is ! 🥸

Sorry I'm running low on maps with a big red X !

    OK , I don't even have one. But I'm looking .

    Good luck !

Looking for your progress reports , we even like pics of junk finds.

I'm impressed how often that members with the right experience can pick out specials from a pic of junk someone posted .

  3. I haven't been weighing things due to my pocket digital scale being a rusted hulk!

This morning I remembered I had an old tone arm scale from my record playing days....not super accurate but better than my guessing ..

So. On my recent finds. (With air TIDs / Nox 800  , 15x12)

    Sister Pendant 2 grams , TID : 26-27

    Earring :  0.8?g , TID 18

    Ring : 1.5 g  , TID : 17

I was surprised to find a 925 on fairground bling !

    A new acid kit soon.

I haven't been keeping track of my hours too much till recently but estimate I'm around 70 on the NOX..and my warranty is up this month or next .. but adding up fast now that I'm living on my permission!!👍👍🤪and don't have drive times cutting into my free time.

Of course the rig restoration is still on winter hold . 🙄

  4. Self inflicted no doubt !

This afternoon I leaned  the detector and shovel up against the rig and then sat down to put on the knee pads , big mistake  ! 🙄 I got up an hour later and put them away.

I haven't done the test on the ring yet but I showed it to a lady I know that makes jewelry and she said it sure looked like silver .  And she also said the earring emerald needs to be looked at or tested too !

So far 3 pieces in 3 weeks and till it freezes again to go.

3 to 0  silver to gold ratio .It's a start.

But I still win if just the silver number goes up !

And YES like you ,  my junk pile is getting pretty heavy too...

Yup yup I have it on good authority that a singing dinosaur sleeps well on a pile of gold for sure !  (Source: The Hobbit ,,,singing , flying. What's the difference ? )

  5.

My "newb again" two zincolns of opinion.

phrunt mentions this from time to time after showing some find ...."My 300 would have found this too" !

The old and or cheaper detectors all still go beep when over metal and yes , even gold too. Maybe not quite as deep but a beep is a beep (unless it's boop).  Discrimination and the other bells and whistles on the top end detectors is impressive but here I am (along with many others) digging it all to not miss any of the more elusive goodies  ! I'm not down playing the benefit of a fine tuned  ground balance  but even without it a detector still finds a lot of targets .

My best friend uses a Garrett 300 and he bests me on occasion. His coil passed over that item and mine didn't.

How many of us have picked up an extra detector for backup or when you talk a non addict or the grand kids into joining you on a hunt ?   A friend on my forums wanted to try the hobby and I steered her to a Vanquish 440 ! She's "diggin'" it !  It's nuts to spend the big buck$ if you're not sure you will use something enough to make it worth the extra cash spent.

Ahhhhhh !  Experienced but exploring new directions . You sure are picking up his clues well ! Now I know what you "will be making in 20 years" 👍 that's today !

You have bragging rights and the pics do it for you too !

  7. The silver pile would make me smile ,,well just one would do that right now and the gold wouldn't hurt me either !You're earning all that while swinging a heavy GPX !!!!

    😵

I went out for a little over 4 hours , in 3 shifts between doing Easter with mom and just taking a long break to warm back up !  I'm pretty sore today , was using the 15x12  , back and elbows mostly. for just one ring of possible bling , no markings..  But it was my 1st ring ! Testing required . Now  I come here and your finds make me hurt more just imagining how much pain if I had done your day in the loose sand ! That stuff kills my legs  ! Mick Jagger was right , "What a drag it is getting old " 🙄 and that was in the 60s when he was a kid !

But then I think I'd still do it for that pile you scooped today ..... WTG !

  8. The latest from uptah camp ,  oooie !

I've been out swinging coils on the fairgrounds a few more times , maybe 20 hours total since I moved here last fall on the 800 .

Still in factory park1  w/sens at 16  , 50 tone and I switched out the 6 for the 15x12 yesterday... re did some of the areas the 6 had already gone over too.  I'm finding hot spots where the vendors were set up  (one was right in front of my rig parked over in the winter storage area by the road ). Been running on solar only since the snow started up in mid december...

A crap ton of screws , bolts and  nails  (1 old square one ) with  many times that of various pieces of rusty ferrous, maybe a dozen pop top tabs and beaver tails. together and separate .  Only a few bottle caps.  About two bucks of clad .

And added another silver in the form of a 925 earring with an "emerald"? yesterday and a child sized ring  today.

Everything is pretty shallow , the earring was almost on the surface !  But the ring was down about 10" (250mm). The ground is sandy everywhere except where they added about 6" of nice topsoil for the lawn areas. There is another 4" of sand where the individual vendors have added their booths because the topsoil gets super muddy in the rain...

I'm saving it up so I can post one of those massive hunt shots like some here find in one day with labels  , circles and arrows Including a nice close up of the shinies !

Getting a lot of practice leaving no trace and if I don't , I employ camo tactics. 👍

Doing the roadsides too  (That's where I found the earring ! ) where I just dig and fill then use a little kid sized dollar store plastic rake  to smooth out my boot prints from packing it down.

There is a constant stream of residents of the huge retirement community next door walking by and just imagine this ....not one has asked if I found anything good !  I must be in the Twilight Zone or something ?

But I have scored more than a few dog kisses being down on their level a lot. 🥸

I also have fun making other projects in the forge, mind you I'm still learning and have only been hammering hot metal in the forge for a few months really, but I enjoy it, and it's fun and it fills in time between detecting trips. 😀

Just a couple of the project I have finished

This is forged from a Railroad spike

Why did I say newb ?

Dave told us in the first sentence in this post.(which has more of his sweet lookin' creations)

I agree Dave has skills..  One of those "naturals" no doubt !   😎

I'm wondering what he'll be making after 20 years of experience ? 🤔

    Dave

Please don't tell us you learned on U toob ! 😉

Now Steve I hope you know that when I am swinging the detector I become a BOT.

So when I make a post on here am I still considered a BOT, I just want to make sure that I am still human at times.

I believe that what you are changing things to will work quite well and get rid of the bad BOTS.

Just another question for you, when you are swinging your detector do you feel like a BOT?

    Phrunt

    Well , actually .

That's the way I ran my sound systems , just allowed my mind  to become part of the machine's inner workings  . I looked at it like The Pinball Wizard song by the Who.

SO I guess that's a yup yup cuz I'm trying to do the same thing with my detector too ...

Yesterday I called several of my finds before digging . ....IT'S WORKING !  😵

  11. Dial it in anytime and as often as you want Steve.

This awesome forum should be fun for you too !

It's your vision to direct , and IMO you're putting on a great show so far !   WOW

I was getting less and less time to have fun posting because of all the "maintenance" before putting in the filtering rules on my forums (I was even thinking of pulling the plug and just participating here)  .

That plus your idea of deleting the zero posting accounts have made things much more manageable now !  Only 3 spammers (very probably the same person 3 times ) so far this month and I don't remember any from march..

  12. Welcome aboard Rick !

This forum is full of tips and clues .Many are collected here by our fearless leader .

Ask any questions you have . There are some of the best in the world here to help your progress in the hobby.

Good luck with your 800..  A very capable machine. Use the factory presets programmed into it . They are all you need to get going. . There are almost infinite adjustments that can be made but which ones and how much will become more clear as you get more experience and more questions answered.

Start there and as you learn about how it works . Become one with it's beeps and boops.  Common belief is 100 hours on a detector will get you there or at least close.

Dig it all at first , .
