My early Wheats and Indian Head Cents have been ringing up 20-21 so be careful ignoring zincs signals.. I use depth to make dig decisions on the zinc signals when I’m in Old Coin cherry pick Mode..

Bryan,
All of the copper memorials and wheat cents ring in high for me 25-27. IHP 20-21, the same as a zinc. I also use depth as a gauge as to whether or not to dig the 19-21 signal. I did dig a beautiful copper suspender clasp in the shape of a Fleur-de- Lis that rang in 20-21. That was a "site dependent" dig choice, though,. I wouldn't have dug it in a modern park.
Thanks for your observations.

Yeah, we have a new ghost town site that really has me excited as well. Looong quad ride in and the weather has been a bit chilly here in sunny AZ. So we haven't done it yet.
It's nice that the Kruzer or Equinox may be able to replace the "combo" thing. Going in with one unit that can do it all will simplify things. I've had to do the combo unit/ multiple coil thing for years now. I sold off all of my fast single frequency units... no more E-TRAC with a tiny coil plus whatever other SF unit combo. Just the Nox.

Awesome. Thank you!

Man, I hope he gives it a spin in the ghost towns. That is where the Nox will show him it's true colors.

Wow! You got a smokin deal!
The 14X9 is my favorite all- rounder coil. The 16" is great for open ground work and you can't beat the 8x6 (Sadie) for shallow, tight areas and small gold.
You may want to pick up a good pair of head phones. I really like Black Widows or Grey Ghosts.
Congrats!

Very Nice!
I would have missed the ring too. I have dug 14s and 15s only to find pull tabs. I would have passed. I know a guy has to dig pull tabs if he wants to find gold...I'm just not that guy. I'm good for about two or three tabs per trip. I'll take my gold finds in nugget form!

The stand looks very nice, no doubt about it, but to be honest, I have to admit that the EQ800 stand is one of the best stock engineered stands for not falling over I've ever used.
Every detector I've ever had in the past, be it Minelab, Fisher, Teknetics, Makro, Nokta, Garrett, doesn't really matter, they all tip over, so very easily, so I'd about given up on a detector maker actually making a stand that actually stood the machine up. With the EQ it's darn near impossible for the detector to fall over. Heck even in the back of my vehicle it stays upright the entire ride and let's just say I'm not a gentle driver - lol
I had a stand like the one the one shown for my Sov, yes it works, and maybe it's just me, but the less junk I have attached to my detector, the lighter it is, not to mention the ergonomics are better, and it's not getting tangled up on anything.
+1. The factory stand is great!

Nice! I've not found a Buff either .
Yes, the Equinox, just like the E-TRAC, loves deep, crusty, bent nails. Man, they sound good! When they come out of the hole you think, "That can't be the target"!

The 3500 with a Sadie coil will find tiny gold. It is just a tad less stable than the 4500/5000 in mineralized soil. Excellent machine.

Good advice from phrunt. There are many out there. I got one from Walmart that is a multi port USB charger from a company called Black Web. Works well. $20.

Strick,
I did the same thing...got rid of all my Nokta's and AT-gold. I'm down to three machines now...GPX, E-Trac, Equinox. Lots more room in my man cave! Although, all are good machines and found their share of goodies, I'm glad they found good homes... and my life is less cluttered. I'm really liking the Equinox. Looking forward to your reports with it.

Jackpine,
On the Equinox, with it's wireless head phones, I prefer the threshold volume set on 5. For me, the tone is in the back ground but audible enough to be heard.

Beautiful find! You payed for your detector with one find! WTG!!

Just switching between Park 1 and Field 2 has a different " feel" to the way the modes hunt. I changed both modes from the factory presents to have no disc, 50 tones, 1 IB, 7 recovery, and turned the T1 zone volume down to 4. So, they are both set up the same but they hunt completely different. Park 1 is more " tame" but really hits the higher conductors harder. Field 2 hits the lower and moderate conductors harder. ID on coins in Park 1 is better ( more consistent with the charts). I had copper pennies ID quite high in Field 2. In Field 2 I dug more tiny copper bits like bullet jackets than in Park 1. Oh, and I set the target tones up to 25 in T2 so that the tone split is much more distinct ( higher tones on the high conductors). I love how versitile this machine is in an uncomplicated way. You can change many of the settings without compromising it's hunt-ability. I hope that makes sense.

Nope, can't say I have. In fact I would rate my Equinox better than most DD coil machines when it comes to pinpointing, whether by eyeballing the target or using the pinpoint button. I get the "ghosting" issue with the pinpoint function now and then but just move off to the side a little more and re engage and it works fine.
Let's see what others have to say. Congrats on the silver!
+1. No problems.

WTG! Great start! Thanks for the pic.

Same thing happened to my buddy. ML took care of it quickly.

Awesome Cal!
I figured that you would like the Equinox as we hunt the same type of sites and I'm impressed with it.
Thanks for the report!

Great report! Congrats on your first Nox gold.

I don't feel that the machine needs any counter balance. Like Paul, I'm used to swinging a much more substantial machine in the gold fields. I'm also one of the weird ones that feels the E-Trac is a comfortable machine to swing all day.
The water bottle bottle idea is a good one. Adjustable... depending on the coil selection.

Dean what kind of soil are you dealing with where your located? Our NorCal soils are mild to wild with mineralization.
My EQ800 is slated to land today, and my buddy are and I going to do a small road trip to hit a few sites over the weekend. Ones an older park, ones an old site I've never been to, so no idea as to iron or modern influence yet (suspect it has a fair bit of modern trash) mixed with oldies and likely some iron too. Thanks,
CalCal,
I'm right next door to you in AZ.. Just like you...mild to wild. The place I recently hunted in Field 2 is moderate. I don't remember the Equinox GB number though. I think that you will love the Nox in your iron polluted sites.

Nice hunt! Congratulations!
I've seen the same thing...Iffy tone, bouncy # signals always turn out to be junk. I'm going to start calling them "junky" signals. I'm at the point with the Equinox now where I walk on those "junky" signals and don't feel like I may have left a good target in the ground... like with some other machines.

Minelab Equinox 800 Vs White's V3i
in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons

So, for all of you V3i guys that may know...
A guy on another forum said that ML ripped off Whites V3i tech and came up with the Nox as a result and that ML has admitted this.. I'm skeptical but know nothing about Whites. Who developed this type of multi frequency first? Not that it really makes any difference but it's nice to set the record straight. Thanks.
