I've considered upgrading many times but changing just a few settings and going back over hunted out sites have proved has convinced me to stay with what I have.

Fred and I went hunting yesterday and after a couple hours he had dug a tremendous amount of iron trash. He was getting discouraged but I told him it takes time to learn the machine and all its features and settings. Finally he found a mercury dime at 7". That really helped with his confidence and how he feels about the machine.

Manticore just arrived. New machine with different serial number. Fred is very happy. I must commend Minelab for turning this around quickly. Good for consumer relations.

Years ago, when I learned how EMI affects a detectors performance I did a simple study. I took my detector to many different locations to determine the maximum air distance of a US dime from the coil, using the most stable settings at the time. I used the greatest distance as a starting point to near zero EMI affect on my detector (my opinion). I then marked the maximum distance I could obtain on the lower shaft (12" for the Equinox). So now, when I go hunting, I can get a good guess by air testing the machine (machine health check), if something is wrong with either the machine or maybe even silent EMI (not audible chatter).
Looking at the picture, I have a mark at about 12" which is the maximum distance I can get using a US dime and the Equinox after the best settings and noise cancel. It is surprising, just how many times I can't get a repeatable audio at 12" regardless of my settings (effects of EMI). But moving only 20', things might change, better or worse. This works good on all the detectors I've ever used. The F75 tends to be affected a little more by EMI but the maximum air test is quite a bit more than the Equinox. Both machines have places where they outperform the other. -
Exactly, but I wanted to state my machine does well regardless of the DST settings. One has less chatter than the other. Of course I'm using the stock 11" DD coil. High minerals in the ground will cause many different kinds of target anomalies. For me, high minerals will pull down the target ID and audio and yes times all the way into the iron range.

Something I had forgotten about since last having an F75: the newer DST model F75s have been neutered from what made them great. They have a VERY weak all metal mode now. To get a good one, you'll have to find one that hasn't been updated and is a non DST model. Just an example for you...the F75 I recently traded for is a DST model. With it at 99 sensitivity, it will only AIR TEST a .58 cal Minie ball out to 9.5-10 inches in all metal. And you have to really be listening to hear it. By comparison, we tested my buddys original non updated F75 on the same minie ball and his unit sounds like it has an audio boost enabled in all metal and is much more powerful. We couldn't get his to 99 sens due to chatter but with it on 80, it was calm and could detect that minie out to 14 inches. Yes, that's a 4 inch difference. Whereas the newer one was weak and barely hearable at 10 inches...his was a "no doubt about it" signal at 10...very pronounced. We could actually turn his sensitivity down to 60 and 70 and still get better distance than the neutered F75 at 99 sens. I traded a CZ70 Pro with George here on the forum for a T2. I'm hoping like crazy that it's a non DST model lol. Or at least isn't as badly neutered as the F75 I have.
I have the Pro Arc which is the F75 LTD with a different face plate. I get a consistent 15" air test on a US nickel with both the DST settings. All metal is absolutely awesome in the boost mode. I have a few civil war bullets I might try tomorrow.

People should not confuse First Texas with Fisher, as Fisher could be shut down tomorrow, and First Texas do just fine.
Right

First Texas is not going out of business. They simply are not focused on the portion of their business you care about.
They have also down sized for the past 5 years.

I thought @Geotech said they're not working on anything that he knows of... ?
It doesn't help they struggled to get the Impulse out the door, and if they can get the Impulse Gold to market that would be a good start though, I have high hopes for that reaching the market and if it comes in at a good price it has potential.
A multi frequency T2/F75 type detector would be pretty good though, and others have been able to do it when it was once thought Minelab had it all patented up. It's one detector other than making it carbon fiber and putting a more modern interface and screen on it I wouldn't overly want them to change the design of the shaft, arm cuff and handle. It'd be a good idea to move the power/volume knob though 🙂
When I first heard 1st Texas was working on a multi-frequency was about 6 years ago. I'm assuming Carl is the one you are talking about above so he would know but might not could say. Well anyway, I guess they abandoned those projects for the AQ that was released. It's hard to compete against the larger companies that have a huge engineering staff.

I think you made a good decision. Since I use the 800 and can say it's enough for me at this point in time.
The expanded numbers will allow more information on targets. If you will narrow down your pin pointing you can get a good idea if the target is roundish or elongated.

When I heard 1st Texas was working on a new multi-frequency detector, several years ago I waited, waited and waited. Then 5 years ago I bought the Equinox 800. Being a dedicated Fisher fan for some 10 years I had to move on. Now I will state, if they come up with a multi-frequency unit, I'm in. I still have the F75 LTD and use quite often. All is not lost.

I was a little concerned but feel better about it now.

Fred received a return shipping label for the Manticore. Return shipping cost will be on Minelab, I'm glad to see that. Yep, he has to send it back for a replacement. He did ask the question: Will the wait time be long like the dealers are seeing and the answer was no.

Well Fred finally got an answer from:
USA
Detector CenterPennsylvania, USA
T: 814 283 4270
E: newrepair@detectorrepair.com
W: www.detectorrepair.comHe will have to file a damage report online with all the information and they stated, after their review he would be contacted with information about what Minelab will do. This could be a drawn out process. We'll see if they are really a world class company or not. All revolves around QC.
What has him the most concerned is the fact it is deep enough to feel with a finger nail. Not knowing if down the road it could cause an issue or not.

Awesome find, Stering! Is that wood or rusty metal protruding from the bottom. Because the angle of the oval part is offset a bit and looks rounded inside, I was thinking it could be from a pair of very fine sewing scissors.
Rust of some sort.

After clean more around the edges it states "terling", but the place where the s would be there is a blob of, what looks like silver.

We have already planned our first location which in the past has yielded some fairly deep targets for our dirt.

My hunting buddy finally has a Manticore on the way. Should be here next week. I'm so excited for him.
Then the fun will begin with us comparing targets with my Equinox 800.
I lost my other hunting buddy to Covid 1 1/2 years ago.

Someone, somewhere should know when the Manticore will be available in the US!
Steve should since he has contacts.
