  1. If he was the telecom dude, then yes, for some reason I had it in my mind for some time that it was you that found that one. Memory is not as great as it once was Reg. It was a beautiful bit of Gold though, biggest bit I've seen in the flesh so far.
  2. We can't get um all Reg, 250 oz is a serious lump that's for sure, saw a 290 oz lump at the Tarnagulla pub just after the SD 2000 was released.
  3. Well here's a couple more missed by Reg, the SD 2000 prototype's, and me with a production SD 2000 Around about the same time the 70 & 90 Oz bits were found at patchy flat, I was camped in the place, picked up some nice bits to 10 Oz's, my mate came down from Sydney towing his little caravan and we met up outside of finders in Dunolly Being a tight wad and not wanting to pay Caravan park fee's, he asked if I knew of a good spot where he could park out bush and detect, No probs follow me. Took him out to patchy flat and he parked near where I had camped. I had to return to work on the Monday Morning, so we parted company. Monday morning my office phone rang, "Guess what I found" "A 75 and a 30 in the same hole, just down from the van"
  4. Not trying to hurt you Reg, Mate the odd KG or two that you missed, compared to what you've found over the years, Just goes to show that the prototype 2000 's didn't get it all. anyway I've hi jacked your Great Gold Album enough, so will post on the Gold you've missed topic. I have enjoyed your Album, it's re-kindled a lot of very fond memories, so thank you for that.
  5. Thanks so much for that info Ashley, that's one of the one's Reg missed, Old Ray (Yellowfin) always yapped on about how Pulse induction was the way to go, In hind sight his finds were limited by the 8" mono coil fitted to the sea hunter. He would have cleaned up with it with a bigger coil. his bigger finds came with the SD 2000 on and his largest with the 5000, so it's still out there to be found Ashley. Good hunting Mal
  6. Yes that's the pic Ashley, thanks very much for finding it Although that nug looks a lot smaller than I remember it, bit like fishing stories Now my old mate Yellowfin pulled heaps of nuggets out of patchy flat, dozen's of nug's up to 5 oz's with a modified garrett sea hunter XL 500 pulse, he purchased it in or around 1992 and had it modded by a guy is SA, This was some 2 or 3 years before Minelab came out with a PI, It was hip mounted and he snuck around with it under a longish coat. It looked bizzare in summer to say the least, I remember one time he got busted by a guy swinging one of the newest Groundhogs, the bloke gave him a real hard time, laughing and telling him he would find nothing with that thing. Shame he didn't get to see what was in his full pockets. Damn he found a lot with that thing.
  7. So you missed a few big bits in there then Reg, saw a 70 and a 90 oz come out of patchy Flat with production SD 2000's In fact one of them, can't remember now if it was the 70 or 90 featured on the front cover of Gold Gem and Treasure, my mate Barry Taylor is holding it, next to his yellow Hi Lux.
  8. Thanks for the interesting Info geof_Junk, yes I think your right 500KV Well I can tell you can hear the crackle, and hissing from these power lines. I don't plan to detect near these again, it was just to test the ability of the QED v the 5000, both failed to operate within 50m of these particular lines. I worked at both Liddell and Wallerawang Power Station's in NSW, setting up cooling water monitoring systems. Late 70's early 80's Mal
  9. Thanks for the welcome Steve, lots of good information over here. AussieMatt, Howard posted some information on Mode settings to assist Oldhand, but after rereading on AEGPF your right, I don't see oldhand say he can GB with the other coils. All my coils have the ferrite fitted, and all my head to head testing between the QED and 5000 were with both boxes on the same stick. So just a case of unpluging the coil from the QED and plugging it into the 5000 and firing it up. Can't really say I noticed any difference having the ferrite on the 5000. Mal
  10. AussieMatt, Don't wish to hijack Reg Wilson's post But as the owner of the first Production QED serial number 001 and the user that reported "One user indicated he couldn't get to within 50m of powerlines with the QED or a GPX he had" I thought I would join up here and at least answer that question for you. So to clarify, I was conducting head to head testing with my QED and my GPX 5000 on a private property near Orange, NSW, Australia. Initially testing was performed looking for gold on the property, later in the day due to heat we packed up and went back towards the homestead, that is transversed by 500KVA high voltage transmission line towers. Both my QED and my GPX 5000 were unusable within 50m of these transmission lines. It should be noted that Mobile (Cell) phone, TV, radio and other electronics are also effected by these lines, and according to the property owner, the severity of interference is dictated by many factors, Weather, long periods of dry weather causes issues, as does fog, rain, and the condition of the insulators. Also of note was the detexnix wireless used on my QED and my Mobile (cell) phone gave up well before the detectors. “One user on AEGPF said he couldn't ground balance until he tried a NF 12 X 7 coil?” I believe this issue was resolved via QED settings I've not suffered any GB issues over some pretty nasty ground in Central Victoria. but then I'm an old school techo, that's used to manual GB. “SMF (6) set to” My SMF was default at 050 and I use the supplied Ferrite on the coil lead of all my coils. Cheers, Mal
