  1. Waiting "patiently" for my number to be called on the 15" waiting list... I think CoilTek only sent 2 or 3 to each distributor in the first shipment... I haven't heard anything about the 2nd shipment yet.  I recall a very similar scenario a few years back when I was #7 on the waiting list for the EQX.  That was a painful wait... especially watching the first wave posting their finds.. Hopy your 10 x 5 comes soon relicmeister!

Are we to assume the '900' will have 9 modes, just one more than the '800' model ?
I would guess 'All-Metal' is the obvious missing one, and easiest to implement. That may disappoint those wanting a '1200' or '1600' model.
[ though the mighty power of mathematics also allows for a machine with 9 modes such as Park1/2/3; Field 1/2/3 ; Beach 1/2/3 ... but not that compatible with the existing LCD display, unless you 'illuminate' both Park1 AND Park2 for the third mode. ]

So does that mean that the 800 has 3.7875 times less features than the CTX?

    Are you sure it's not a '3'?

It could be a '3' I will try to get a better view of it.  It is pretty beat up on the 'V' side, I don't think I will get a mint mark, but will try.

If you don't have 'gold coin' on there

My hopes of gold at this site are pretty low... something tells me the this elementary school was in a lower economic area in the early 1900's... but you just never know.  That pocket watch wasn't expected either!.

Based on my pre-2021 finds (wheats) and the age of the ground... I thought the IHP's would be the first to check off...  but they are the lone survivor on the checklist haha.  I seem to recall another thread about IHP's though 😉

    Thanks for the comments GBA!

a cross between a black lab and an elephant

Haha... I think I know that breed from my own adventures!  Awesome Silver amongst all the pitfalls you had to navigate Rod!

So even in that heavy trash, you found the recovery 3 was able to keep up?  Interesting... I usually run recovery 4, but have been thinking about toying with lower recovery numbers based on some comments.  I usually bump up the recovery in high trash... just learning as I go here.  ~Tim.

She is running the Vanquish and it’s chattery. I may have to get her something better.

The Vanquish is a powerful machine... but a lot more ability to adjust settings and user preferences with the EQX to handle difficult ground (as you stated).  The biggest issue you will have is the competition in the field with you both running the same machine 😉  As always... incredible finds table Chris.  ~Tim.

  6. I continue to put in the hours at the old school grounds that is the location for this quest.

In past hunts I have found a 2nd Buffalo Nick, a 2nd Silver War Nick, several wheat cents and a delaminated coin (nickel size that I couldn't ID.

Tonight, I officially checked the 3rd item off the quest list.

    Equinox 800, 11" Stock Coil, Park 1, Horseshoe (no disc), 50 tone, Recovery 4, F2=0, sens 22.

After digging several pieces of large deep iron, and several surface pull tabs and aluminum scrap, I walked a few steps and got a soft signal.  Repeatable 12-13 showing 5 bars depth.  I knew this depth shouldn't be a pl tab, so I got a little bit hopeful.  I dug my plug continued down to about 8" before getting a peep on my Carrot.  Another 2 inches to get a solid tone on the pinpointer, and another 1 1/2 " to free the target.

191x V Nickel.  The 4th number is a bit corroded... looks like a 2, but not completely sure.

(I just dug it up to see where & how deep it was.  Trying to learn how close nails need to be to affect other nearby targets.)

I understand that, I dig a fair amount of iron on purpose for exactly that reason.  Sometimes I dig it first to see if the higher conductor cleans up or changes id... other times I dig it after the desired target.  If it is big..  I dig it just to get it out of there so it doesn't have a chance to mask a smaller target.

Getting a nice find, especially one that isn't easy... just feels good!  Congrats!!

  8. Great recovery GBA!

This is the second Barber Dime I've found in this schoolyard, but the mystery is why it was there at all.

I have a theory that if you looked at pocket change in the 50's, you would find a mix of older coins.. they weren't as desirable when all were silver.  Now.. why there wouldn't be any Rosies?  You may be correct about fill dirt being brought in that predated rosie silver.

So do you think that high 30's was iron wraparound, or was the Barber jumping that much?

I will have to live vicarious through you on the silver Barber.  Looks beautiful to me 🙂

Funny how often that happens. I sometimes think that detectors are like divining rods- just an extension of some inner power we have within ourselves to tap into.

I think my inner power is has a ground fault 😉

    Nice "accidental" find Jim!

    "Recovery 4" on the 600?

Well, since I use both the 800 and 600, I have a tendency to speak in 800 terms. You are right, the actual recovery was 2 on the 600... but that is the equivalent of 4 on the 800.  Still scratching my head on why Minelab decided on different scales between the machines.. haha.   I agree (as usual) with your comments.... I guess they just wanted us to keep our division and multiplication skills sharp. 😉

One was most definitely on edge... in fact when I spotted it in a "tangent tunnel" I was chasing down... it was side facing toward the "center" of the hole.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure you dig these iffy (off-pinpointed) targets every time, just like I do.  😉

Thanks for the comments Chuck.  I was only trying to offer my experience, fully understanding that my experiences are neither absolute, nor the optimum... only mine.... and if that offers help for someone struggling, cool.  If not... a few lines of text cost nothing. For the most part, probably better off letting you, Chase, Midalake and others offer the constructive comments to posters.  I should just limit my posts to "nice finds!".

Byimage.png.56d4eb7895aca4c6ab135fe89eb68c2c.png the way, related to the the quote above, I dug two old wheats last night at 8-9", using the 600 with 12x15 coil, park 1, recovery 4, F2=0, 50 tones, disc at 9 and below, iffy/scratchy signals both,  pinpointed, then horseshoe/back of the coil increased recovery as suggested, and walked 360 around both targets.  Had to chase them both between 3 and 4" off the center of the hole.  Again, my inability to properly center the target is likely the fault, but it was the experience I had.
